Firstly, it is an honour to be here in the land of Juche to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the foundation of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
The DPRK is the first socialist country in the world to be celebrating its 70th foundation.
The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) was itself, born of the 20 year anti-Japanese armed struggle, a fierce-imperialist struggle led by the great leader comrade KIM IL SUNG . The foundation of the DPRK, on the 9th of September 1948, was not a gift or a creation of another country but the product of the Korean people's own struggle.
Throughout its 70 years of existence the DPRK has continuously struggled against imperialism, winning victory after victory.
Supreme Leader KIM JONG UN said.
“Our Party resolutely overpowered the imperialists and crushed their outrageous pressure and challenges by responding with the tougher countermeasure of wielding a sword when the enemy were drawing a knife and leveling a cannon when they were pointing a gun. With the spirit of the arms of Songun it raised a shield to the indecent wind of bourgeois liberalism and 'reform" and 'opening-up' blowing in from around us, allowing us to advance straight ahead along the road of socialism, as we chose.”
In 1945, US imperialists occupied the south of Korea and were opposed to the Korean revolution and the building of unified Korean state. The US tried to stop the Korean people from founding the Democratic People's Republic of Korea by holding separate elections in the US occupied south.
The foundation of the DPRK dealt a blow to the imperialist's policy of colonial enslavement. It was powerful inspiration to the peoples of the oppressed countries in their struggle for independence. The DPRK was always on the front line against imperialism .Throughout its existence it was not just only a powerful inspiration and moral example to the peoples of the world struggling against imperialism but many times gave material internationalist assistance to the struggling peoples.
When the DPRK was founded in 1948 the imperialists did everything they could to crush it. The US imperialists and south Korean puppet reactionaries sent spies and saboteurs into the DPRK to disrupt the successful construction of socialism and committed frequent military incursions into the DPRK, committing acts of terrorism killing many people.
Despite the intense provocations and disruptive activities of the US imperialist and their puppets the DPRK was in this period able to wipe out illiteracy and start laying the foundations of socialism.
The US unleashed its military might against the DPRK on the 25th of June 1950, thus starting the Fatherland Liberation War which lasted three years. The US imperialists carpet bombed the DPRK and even used biological and chemical weapons, the US imperialists carried out brutal, barbaric, indiscriminate massacres of the Korean people but they could not subdue the fighting spirit of the Korean people who were led by the great leader comrade KIM IL SUNG and inspired by the great Juche idea.
The Fatherland Liberation War ended on the 27th of July in victory for the Korean people .US imperialism bite the dust. The notorious US anti-communist senator JR McCarthy stated that “we suffered a serious defeat in Korea”.
After the war the DPRK firmly established Juche and embarked on the road of socialist industrialisation as well as the socialist transformation of production relations thus creating an advanced, people centred socialist system. This was carried out amidst both sharp class struggle against the enemies of the people and a struggle against imperialism. The US imperialists had imposed a total blockade against the DPRK and at the same time incited their south Korean puppets to clamour for a “march on the north”,at the same time anti-party counter-revolutionary factionalists who were backed by revisionist and big power chauvinists tried to overthrow the supreme leadership of the revolution and establish a neutral bourgeois republic but they were defeated as the great leader comrade KIM IL SUNG rallied the people and led the Chollima Movement and carried out self-reliant socialist construction based on the Juche idea. The DPRK became a socialist industrial state and self-sufficient in grain, this was another great victory against imperialism which sought to stifle the building of socialism in People's Korea, both by blockade, military pressure and by backing the internal class enemies.
Thus the DPRK became a powerful state of Juche, a state of independence, self sufficiency and self-defence, known throughout the world as “Chollima Korea” and “model country of socialism”.
In the post-war confrontation with US imperialism and world imperialism the DPRK under the leadership of the great leader comrade KIM IL SUNG and the great leader comrade KIM JONG IL, won victory after victory. The US imperialists committed incessant provocations such as the 1968 “Pueblo” incident, 1969 “EC-121” spy plane incident and the 1976 Panmunjom incident but each time they were smashed by the might of Juche Korea. During the 1990s the imperialists provoked the first nuclear crisis in an attempt to stifle socialism but this ended with the US being forced to conclude the DPRK-US Agreed Framework in 1994.
The DPRK despite the intense pressure of the imperialists and the renegades of socialism upheld the red banner of socialism in the 1990s. Great Comrade KIM JONG IL declared to expect no change from him, basically defying the imperialists who had hoped for “reform” and “opening up” in the DPRK.
I would add that it is a fact that if you leave the door of your home open then robbers will rush in and steal your belongings. The DPRK under the leadership of great comrade KIM JONG IL saw through the insidious schemes of the imperialists and smashed them.
Respected Marshal KIM JONG UN made sure that the DPRK continued the line of struggling against imperialism saying that The struggle to defend socialism is aimed at prevailing over imperialism in all fields of social life. It was respected Marshal KIM JONG UN who put forward the line of Pyongjin, the line of building the economy and nuclear force in parallel, leading it to a victorious conclusion.
The DPRK carried out three nuclear tests and many tests of Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles. The ICBM club is an elite exclusive club of just 6 or 7 countries. My own country Britain which once styled itself as having an empire "on which the sun never set”, does not have its own ICBMs.
At the same time the economy of the DPRK advanced rapidly despite harsh n sanctions imposed by the UNSC and US. The DPRK pressed ahead with truly massive construction projects such as building Mirae Scientists' Street and Ryomyong Street, projects that if carried out in the Western countries would cost billions and billions of dollars but Juche Korea completed these in a short space of time with its own resources and labour. The DPRK has won victory on both fronts.
The fact that the DPRK had been undefeated by the vicious sanctions and blockade meant that the US had no choice but to sit down and negotiate with the DPRK on equal terms on the 12th of June in Singapore.
Thus the 70 years of the DPRK's existence have been 70 years of victorious struggle against US and world imperialism under the leadership of the great leader President KIM IL SUNG, the great leader Comrade KIM JONG IL and the dear respected leader Marshal KIM JONG UN.
