Pyongyang, October 1 (KCNA) -- Respected Comrade Kim Jong Un made a speech "Respects to the Glorious 80-Year History of Kim Il Sung University" on September 30 on the occasion of the 80th founding anniversary of Kim Il Sung University.

Teachers, researchers and students of Kim Il Sung University, our state's number one base for training talented personnel and the highest institution of science and education,

Dear comrades,

I am very pleased to be celebrating with you the historic day when this prestigious university is greeting its 80th founding anniversary.

As I am standing here, I can see the university's thousands of educators and 10 000 or so students brimming with enthusiasm. This fills my heart with trust and confidence in the powerful body of personnel who will shoulder the responsibility for the future of our state.

This university is the parent body in which the training of our state's native cadres began, the "pedigree farm" where large numbers of backbone personnel with loyalty to the Party and the revolution have been produced, and the highest academic institution which represents Korea's intellect and civilization. Indeed, the university's 80th founding anniversary is a source of great pride and an auspicious event for our country.

On the occasion of this anniversary of the university, which is famed for its most honourable name and history, I would like, first of all, to extend my heartfelt congratulations to all its teachers and researchers who are devoting themselves heart and soul to performing their ennobling duties faithfully at this sacred educational institution.

I also offer my warm encouragement to all the students who are applying themselves to learning and research with an ambitious aim and passion to exalt the honour of this country.

In addition, my greetings go to the foreign students, who, together with our students, work hard to enrich their knowledge and deepen the feelings of friendship, as well as to the Korean educationalists from overseas and foreign friends who have been invited here to share this significant event with us.

I send my greetings also to many comrades who are present at this celebration, and to all the graduates from this university who, wherever they live in the country, would be recollecting their student days with deep emotion and extending their best wishes to their alma mater on its founding anniversary.

As I am on this historic campus, I more deeply appreciate the ennobling ideal that was set forth in the initial days of nation building 80 years ago.

This "pedigree farm" for training talented personnel who would form the backbone of our state was built before anything else, and it was based on a determination to establish a powerful, independent and sovereign state lest another bitter disgrace of history be brought upon the Korean people, resourceful, diligent and righteous. I cannot but admire the loftiness of this ideal.

This day 80 years back was a momentous day which witnessed, along with the birth of a new, democratic Korea, the founding of the parent body for training its valuable native cadres, and it was a historic watershed which highlighted Korea's firm determination to shape its future confidently on the principle of achieving prosperity by dint of self-reliance.

This was how Korea's education took its first step.

Many universities in the world boast long histories and high reputations, but I am sure there is no such university as Kim Il Sung University, which was established from scratch thanks to the efforts of the working people, has remained faithful to those people for so long years and has produced so many excellent personnel who have worked with devotion to build a genuine people's state.

As the highest educational institution in the country, this is an authoritative university that symbolizes our state and has propelled it towards prosperity and development, and a prestigious university that has produced most talented personnel representing our people's wisdom and creativity.

At the time of its establishment in the initial days of nation building, the university had only 68 teachers, seven faculties and 1 500 or so students. However, the first step it took was very significant and admirable, since it represented the Korean people's high aspirations and self-confidence.

In following its historic course through decades and generations, the university has rendered a great contribution to promoting the development of the state.

With this university as the parent body, a number of universities and colleges have been established, which has helped setting the framework of our education. By responding to the call of the times for the past 80 years, graduates from this university have strived hard to perform their ennobling duties and responsibilities as main pillars at the Party's and the state's leadership organs and in major sectors and units; their role as the state's loyal and devoted servants has been very active.

Still today, these graduates hold the state's important positions.

This fact illustrates the university's role and position in the development of the state.

Glorious is the university's 80-year history; from the first days of our Republic to this date, the university has achieved notable successes in education and scientific research to support this country's foundations and provide a firm guarantee for its future prosperity.

I courteously propose that we pay our respects to the university's first Chancellor Ho Hon as well as to Kim Ji Jong, To Sang Rok, Pak Si Hyong, Chae Hui Guk, So Sang Guk and other elder educators, who left an indelible imprint on the pages of its glorious history through their high academic authority and successes in education and scientific research.

Comrades,

At this moment when we look back on the annals of history of the university, which is replete with ennobling programmes of patriotism and succession, we ought to recollect instructions with due attention.

At the celebration held on the first anniversary of this university, the great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung said that its characteristics lie in the fact that it is a people's university which provides the sons and daughters of the people with the freedom to learn and serves the purpose of promoting the people's wellbeing, developing our national culture to be worthy of the world's admiration and building a people's country.

This is a truly meaningful remark.

Kim Il Sung University is a solid, core stronghold that reliably guarantees the advance of the socialist cause by employing the Juche-based ideas on nation building and education for its mainstay and by training talented personnel who personify the wisdom and resourcefulness of the people.

Just at its inception, the university began to share its destiny with our state, and its development has since been part and parcel of our state's development.

The prestige and dignity the university has won through its historic struggle and exploits is something to be proud of, but we must in no way hold it simply for a historical record or a legacy of the past.

More important for us is the coming 80 years than the past 80 years, and heavier is the responsibility we bear for the future.

This is the time when the functions and role of the university are incomparably important and decisive for the present and future of our country.

We must be much more powerful.

Surpassing the era of harbouring a great ambition, dreams and desires, we should usher in an era of putting them into practice and reality, and more importantly, we should have such a will and self-confidence.

In reality, our socialist construction is going on in greater depth in greater realms, so it requires competent cadres and able personnel who can skilfully lead the relevant sectors, fields and regions with confidence in their revolutionary cause. This demands that the university further enhance its leading role in developing the science and education of the country by leaps and bounds and in terms of quality.

This is clearly an era when both national sovereignty and prestige depend on educational development and sovereignty in scientific and technological research.

Only when this university produces such good revolutionary personnel, namely, first-rate personnel equipped with an ennobling spirit and morality, high scientific and theoretical qualifications and creative abilities, can we preserve the character of the Korean revolution which is free from stagnation or retreat, and make an excellent success of our strategy for nation building.

It is by no means wrong to say that the future of our country, to say nothing of today and tomorrow of education and science, is determined precisely at this campus.

In our country none of its peers could be on a par with this university in terms of importance of their missions as each of its affairs has a direct bearing on the dignity and future of the country.

Needless to say, the university should take the lead in the honourable struggle to build a powerful and prosperous country.

This view of ours and the common understanding and expectations of everyone in this country precisely stand for the honour, glory and sacred duty of this university.

Considering this serious demand of the times and the expectations of the people, and facing this crucial historic point of national development, no other unit but this very university should rise up just like it did to lay the foundations for education and scientific research in its initial days. In this way it can make another event worth mentioning as its re-founding, and lay a solid strategic line for the future.

In recent years the Party Central Committee put forward the line of building an educational power and a talent power, and has consistently maintained the stand with which to give priority to educational development; it made a series of important decisions for modernization of education and the building of an educational power, and has effectively led the educational sector to achieve historic successes and make a trend of change and development.

An educational power, a sci-tech power and a talent power to be built are the three essential requirements and a basic guarantee for the development of our style of socialism, which our Party advocates at the moment.

It is essential to prepare the leading, driving force if we are to accomplish the three-point strategic task, that is, building an educational power, a sci-tech power and a talent power, and this university should take the position. This is the view and expectation of the Party Central Committee.

The university should play a core and leading role in carrying out several urgent tasks that still remain undone in the field of education and, more importantly, in overhauling the education system of the country as a whole.

The educational power we are going to build is a revolutionary, advanced and people-oriented one of our own style. To this end, the main orientation should be to guarantee the development and prosperity of our socialist state by dint of education; the fundamental principle, to strictly adhere to the Party's ideas and theories on education; the basic task, to train talented revolutionaries, possessed of excellent spiritual and moral traits and high intellectual and practical abilities, who will serve the state and the people; the main goal, to reduce regional differences in the educational level and make all the people well-versed in science and technology; the important function, to support and lead the comprehensive development of the state; the main motive force for development, to build up the ranks of teachers in terms of quality; the basic way, to update the educational structure, system, contents and methods and ensure the qualitative improvement of the educational conditions and environment; and the basic guarantee, to strengthen the guidance and assistance by the Party and the state and increase social support for education. In the long run, we will develop our education into the one to which we can fully entrust the future of our state and people.

Kim Il Sung University should bolster its position as a reliable centre for training talented personnel that symbolizes the level of our education, represents the development of our state, and showcases our bright future.

It should train talented revolutionaries who will serve their country and people both in name and in reality.

Because of a historical factor that compelled our state to pioneer a path for national defence and prosperity in a very special geopolitical environment, and because of our people's strong desire for building a powerful country, the levels and hallmarks of talented personnel required by our country were also unusual.

The university should produce not merely experts with qualifications in their specialist fields; it is required to train able revolutionary personnel who will faithfully serve our state and our people.

In trying to develop it into one of the most prestigious universities in the world, we are not aiming to raise its prestige or imitate others; our goal is to train more excellent personnel who will make a genuine contribution to accomplishing our revolutionary cause and become strong buttresses in building up our national power and providing our people with a happy life.

The contents and methods of teaching should be steadily updated in keeping with the trend of the times, but the true intention behind founding the university and its main function should remain unchanged.

The aspirations of all officials, teachers, researchers and students of the university should be in accord with the ennobling ideal of patriotism.

The university should set it as its immutable educational programme, its first and foremost one, to train all its students to be elite personnel who cherish the Party's intention and will as an element of their own faith and regard it as their lifelong goal to build the future as designed by the Party.

It should encourage all its students to have a good understanding of our Party's ideas and policies, cultivate revolutionary traits, and learn from the thoughts, spirit and willpower which their seniors cherished in training their minds and broadening their horizons of knowledge to leave remarkable imprints in the history of development of the Party and the state.

It should work out and put into effect proper courses of education and edification so that the students, fully aware of their heavy duty, can train themselves in practice while gaining firsthand experience of the reality through various production internships and socio-political activities.

I stress once again: This is a people's university which was established thanks to the ardent patriotism of our people who were determined to develop theirs into a prosperous and powerful country, and its dignified name, symbolic of its prestige and honour, was also instituted according to the unanimous will of our people.

Our people's expectations of the university were always unusual, and their desire for it still remains unchanged.

Before being recognized by the world in terms of any certain indexes or items, it should naturally be appreciated by the country and the people for its true and sound educational courses and the successes resulting from them, and its position should be verified by them.

As it is a learning space for the people's sons and daughters, the university should not produce self-centred or fame-seeking persons who try to gain academic qualifications or to lay a springboard for their own careers; it should produce genuine patriots who will make devoted efforts for the country and the people, true servants who will faithfully support the country.

Any unfair and ambiguous elements that are detested by the people and unacceptable to them must never be allowed to exist in this people's university.

The discipline of Kim Il Sung University, which trains the hardcore personnel for nation building, is directly linked with the national trait.

There should prevail on this campus the discipline and climate of remaining faithful to the Constitution of the Republic and to moral obligation, and all hues of lazy and unsound trends that run counter to the mission and principles of socialist education and have nothing to do with the revolutionary atmosphere of our times should be prevented from getting a foothold in the university.

Comrades,

Today, availing myself of this opportunity when I am meeting with you, teachers and researchers of the university, I want to make a particular reference to the need to improve the quality of education.

We should adhere to the principle of setting the high objective for qualitative development as the lifeblood of education at all levels, and set up an educational system of high qualitative level as quickly as possible.

The university, shouldering the important political responsibility for achieving the qualitative development of education, should provide a guarantee for ensuring that the policy-oriented decisions and directives of the Party Central Committee on advanced education prove effective in practice.

By comparing the present state of our education with the global trends in educational development, it should discover a shortcut to attaining a higher stage and study and update its educational structure and system so that it can produce more excellent revolutionary personnel as we need.

It should improve the contents and methods of education in keeping with the present reality that is different from the past and according to the rapidly-changing trends of the times.

It should improve the contents of education in the direction of training personnel who are possessed of a scientific way of thinking and practical methodology in addition to a rich knowledge of their major and relevant fields, and it should also steadily develop its teaching methods so that the students can have great abilities to analyze, think creatively and apply in practice.

The fundamental key to improving the quality of education is decisively to enhance the qualifications of teachers.

I regard strengthening the ranks of university teachers as the most important prerequisite for building an educational power.

However advanced the educational equipment, facilities, system, environment, methods and others may be, the qualitative instruction by a teacher is unthinkable apart from his or her leading role. So, it is essential to reinforce and perfect the teacher training system, and this should be the starting point for all affairs, I think.

The quality of education at Kim Il Sung University represents our state's level of education.

The university should create standard models for most rational, productive and efficient structure, system, contents and methods of education, and use its influence in developing the country's education as a whole.

Comrades,

Kim Il Sung University is the highest academic institution that supports the country's dignity and prosperity with the twin pillars of education and science.

Our Party expects that the university, as befitting the country's cardinal and authoritative educational institution and its academic research institute, will play a greater role in developing the country's science.

The university should defend our Party's revolutionary ideology and theories, steadily explore and develop more academic domains needed for the present and future of nation building, enhance the state's competitive edge in science and technology, and give a strong push to the research projects that are conducive to putting the economy on an advanced and modern basis.

The university should encourage the sector of basic sciences, which is its peculiar advantage and a source of pride for it, to perform a distinct role in rendering services to carrying out the ambitious tasks for the technological revolution in the new era and opening up a shortcut to the future.

In order to add lustre to its honour as an authoritative and influential university in line with the demands of both global trend and our reality, it should play a core role in creating cutting-edge industries.

This university, which has nearly all academic subjects of theoretical and applied sciences and many outstanding personnel, can serve as a base for establishing those industries. It also can be called fertile soil capable of growing new sprouts and stems of our economy that will compete with the world on its own terms.

This is quite feasible if scientific planning is followed by investment and organizational work, since the university has prestigious research institutes of distinguished service, and has accumulated experience in the course of integrating education, scientific research and production.

I believe the university will take a lion's share in completely upgrading the features of our national economy and putting it on a new trajectory of development.

As befitting a world-class university and the highest-level university in the country, it should proactively conduct exchanges and cooperation with famous universities and scientific research institutions in other countries.

All the teachers and researchers of the university should make strenuous efforts to become the foundations for training excellent revolutionary personnel, not with their honour or academic degrees and titles but with conscience as educators and with whole-hearted devotion.

The illustrious educators who had their names recorded in the history of the university were stronger than any others in their desire for, and demand in, training even one more talented person in their academic fields for the good of the country.

They were literally faithful servants of the country and patriots, before being teachers.

When all the educators of the new generation hold in reverence the ennobling spirit and conscience of the preceding generations and adopt the aspiration and will to carry them forward as their ideological feelings, the history in which patriotism begets patriotism and a talent trains more talented personnel will go on.

All the educators of the university should, with a more soaring spirit and with more steadfast fortitude and will, open up a new, great phase of socialist education in the new era and contribute to the rapid development and prosperity of the country.

Dear students of Kim Il Sung University,

The honour of this dignified university and the future of the country depend on your shoulders.

You should set by yourselves the height of your practical abilities to be attained during your university days and value every second of your university life with a single desire to remain honourable before your motherland by dint of your knowledge and talents.

With a sense of sacred consciousness, you should continue to cultivate a good habit of studying and to create an atmosphere of innovation and competition.

You should have a strong sense of self-respect and self-confidence to make your country more powerful and prosperous, an ambition and courage to strike the world with admiration, and excellent academic records associated with your conscience and passion.

I put trust in the educators and students of Kim Il Sung University and its graduates.

You should learn and work harder for the prosperity of our state, the wellbeing of our people, and the advance of our cause.

As our goal is far-reaching and our task is enormous, the existence of talented personnel will be brought into bolder relief day by day, and the strenuous, devoted efforts made for the present struggle will produce rich, valuable fruits.

I appeal to all comrades who are full of enthusiasm on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the university to write its dignified history more proudly.

KCNA Commentary on Japan's Moves to Expand Powder Magazine

Pyongyang, September 30 (KCNA) -- Recently, the Japanese reactionaries have buckled down to the extension of gunpowder houses for the Self-Defense Forces under the pretext of supplementing ammunition for "bolstering up the defense capabilities".

The Japan SDF with 1 400 gunpowder houses across the country is planning to additionally build at least 130 gunpowder houses under the standardized designs by 2032.

At present, the construction sites for 65 gunpowder houses were settled and the designs and construction projects are being conducted. Of them, three gunpowder houses were already completed by August this year. The designing for the remaining 65-odd gunpowder houses is to start later in 2027 after choosing their construction sites.

It is reported that the scale of extended gunpowder houses will increase more than scheduled under the three security documents, including the "national security strategy", the Japanese authorities are planning to formally revise within this year.

The extension of gunpowder magazine means that Japan is anticipating a long-drawn-out war.

It is by no means fortuitous that the present chief executive of Japan has asserted from the outset of the year that Japan should make preparations for a long-drawn-out war.

This is vivid evidence that Japan, a war criminal state, made a war for aggression and its prolongation a fait accompli and has made preparations for bolstering up its sustained combat capacity.

The Japanese reactionaries are now getting more frantic in the open scheme to realize the war strategy for materializing their reinvasion ambition.

They are also hell-bent on rounding off the war preparations for aggression, investing huge amount of funds in the development of underwater-lunched hypersonic missiles, massive deployment of attack drones and introduction of AI into the SDF command system and other countermeasures to the "new combat mode" and the additional deployment of long-range missiles with "capability of attacking enemy base".

As well-known to everyone, Japan as a war criminal state is banned to have regular army, to say nothing of the right to take part in any war or right to belligerence. Nevertheless, it is scheming to increase its gunpowder houses in all parts of the country with a view to a long-drawn-out war, after getting fully prepared for a war state.

The militarist serpents' moves to increase the gunpowder houses for entering the road of overseas aggression at an early date are self-destructive acts of turning the whole of the archipelago into a huge powder box.

It is undeniable historical fact that the Japanese militarists, who ignited a bloody war of aggression under the ambition to dominate the whole world a century ago, were plunged into the mud of a long-drawn-out war in Asia and finally defeated.

Recently , the despicable ROK fascist puppets fabricated the 'landmine explosion ' case  which is clearly a false flag operation by the puppets aimed at framing the DPRK and provoking an international incident . Comrade Kim Yo Jong says   "It is too low and dirty as befitting the tribes of the ROK.". This is very true .

The ROK puppets have clearly fabricated the 'evidence ' for the landmine incident . It is strange and curious that the ROK puppet soldiers would visit a barren area which they had not visited for over 50 years.

The ROK is a rubbish puppet regime well known for creating false flag incidents . History is repeating itself .

It is a well known fact that the DPRK in accordance with the new policy on Korean reunification and inter-Korean relations has taken a number of steps to secure its southern border which is simply a matter of asserting sovereignty and not a military  matter . All countries in the world have the right to secure borders and many countries wish to assert control of their borders.

The soldiers of the DPRK's Korean People's Army never crossed the border .

The ROK puppets are warned not to carry out further provocations against the DPRK . Pyongyang, September 30 (KCNA) -- Kim Yo Jong, department director of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, issued the following press statement titled "Ringleaders of provocation should be prepared for paying price for the farce of their own making" on Sept. 29:

Recently, the ROK military gangsters committed another provocation against the DPRK, announcing the "investigation results" in connection with the incident of mine explosion that occurred in the southern border area.

It is too low and dirty as befitting the tribes of the ROK.

Of course, such a farce is by no means a new.

When the mine explosion in question occurred on September 21, we had already anticipated the scenario of Seoul and seen through the true intention of the conspiratorial farce being staged by the ROK military gangsters.

In conclusion, the incident is a clear farce reminiscent of the "wooden-box mine incident" which disturbed the world more than ten years ago, in consideration of the time and method of provocation.

At that time the puppet forces forcibly linked the "mine explosion incident" that occurred on the western border with the DPRK and continuously escalated the tension under the pretext of it.

What should not be overlooked is the fact that the armed gangsters of the ROK are now cooking up the groundless results and "justifying their conduct" for political and military provocation against the DPRK, openly talking about "reasonable and corresponding enforcement of measures".

How can we sit and watch their despicable act of rashly doubting anyone after exploding a mine of doubtful provenance and talking about the breach of the Armistice Agreement.

Where can we find else such an absurd, malicious and gangster-like attitude?

The rulers of Seoul including those of the "People Power Party" have already unanimously said that the withdrawn loudspeaker against the DPRK should be set up in keeping with the futile bravery of the new minister of Defense.

It is absurd that they made a conclusion about the origin of the said mine exploded in the barren land which they had never set foot for more than a half century.

It is the height of impudence that the tribes of the ROK are trying to fabricate "material evidence" for proving it after shifting the blame for the incident onto the other.

We are closely watching why the ROK military rogues need the "mine incident" at this time in connection with their extremely scandalous acts which have been witnessed repeatedly in the southern border area in recent days.

The enemies' provocative acts near the southern border area are going beyond the limit with each passing day.

As the world knows, our army has been building the barriers in the southern border area as part of the work of strengthening the border two years ago, and this is only a thorough exercise of sovereignty unrelated with any military purpose.

However, the ROK military warmongers are seriously threatening the personal safety of our soldiers through warning broadcasting and warning shots, teasing our personnel mobilized for building the border barriers about the groundless "crossing of the border".

Especially from August, the enemy has been engaged in warning broadcasting and warning shots every day.

The "crossing the border" of our soldiers touted by the ROK military is a deliberate and planned strained assertion to shift the responsibility for escalating tension on to the DPRK.

Clearly speaking, our soldiers have never crossed the border.

This is a clear cavil and a provocation.

The ROK military should think first of all about what the world will say about its inability to distinguish its own land and other's land, failing to properly distinguish the boundary which can be confirmed by the naked eye.

We will never remain a passive onlooker to the hostile acts causing great concern in the border area.

When a single bullet is hit on our land, they must be prepared for a lot.

If the ROK military gangsters fire at our soldiers carrying on the permanent project for the southern border, not warning shots, our border units will take immediate and merciless retaliate attack.

The counteraction principles against them have already been issued to the border defence units and the army of the DPRK decided to take measures to increase the tactical counterattack means in the direction of the demilitarized zone of the 21st Infantry Division of the 3rd Corps of the ROK army where the provocations are frequent in recent days.

Explicitly speaking once again, it is clear that if the frequency of malicious accusation and provocation against us in the border region are frequent and lead to an encroachment on our actual territory and military sovereignty, the rogue group will have to face a situation that has not yet been experienced.

I seriously warn you that it would be a good idea to weigh the relative advantages with reasonable thinking.

If you are going to display "bravery" with an unpopular barbarous courage, you will only face a miserable and catastrophic position.

The dramatic culmination of the farce of Seoul will never be fun and the responsibility for all consequences will be entirely for the party to the provocation. -0

DPRK Foreign Ministry's Memorandum Issued to Disclose Truth and Danger of U.S. Nuclear Proliferation

Pyongyang, September 29 (KCNA) -- The Foreign Ministry of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea on September 27 issued a memorandum to disclose the truth and danger of nuclear proliferation by the U.S., which has irresponsibly neglected its disarmament duty as a nuclear weapons state, plunging the international nuclear non-proliferation system into the worst crisis.

The U.S. is the chief culprit of the vertical proliferation bringing a global nuclear nightmare, the memorandum said, and went on:

In July 1945, more than 80 years ago, the U.S. raised nuclear mushroom clouds on the desert of New Mexico State for the first time in the human history and, since then, has made no scruple of resorting to all kinds of means and methods to lead the preemptive nuclear possession to a permanent nuclear monopoly.

It conducted 1 032 rounds of nuclear tests from 1945 to 1994 and had more than 32 500 nuclear attack means when the Cold War was at its height. The fact and figures go to prove eloquently how tremendous disaster the human history might face due to the nukes in the hands of the "evil empire".

The U.S., which had overestimated its exclusive nuclear advantage until the 1950s, resorted to a craftier artifice to gain a nuclear preponderance behind the curtain of nuclear disarmament in the mid-1960s, because of its financial burden caused by excessive military expenditure and apprehension for the Soviet Union's nuclear superiority as the world's second nuclear weapons state.

The U.S. is planning to resume its nuclear explosion tests under the pretext of "fair competition" while building up a world public opinion about "nuclear tests" in other countries. Such scheme is motivated only by its intention to plunge its strategic rivals into the whirlpool of nuclear arms race and realize the radical acceleration of its nuclear power buildup.

The modernization of the U.S. nuclear force is now being promoted at a level reminiscent of the Cold War period in its width and depth, under the keynote policy of the present U.S. administration advocating "America first" and "peace through strength".

Recently, the U.S. military officially recognized its possession of "space control weapons in orbit". This is a manifestation of its dangerous attempt to secure outer space for operation more favorable for strategic nuclear attack on enemy states, as a prolonged policy of dominating space.

What should not be overlooked is the fact that the U.S. is conducting in a more frantic manner its nuclear force buildup and modernization to ensure the absolute nuclear superiority in the "four-point operational sphere" involving the land, sea, air and space.

The U.S. has resorted to drawing up a new nuclear strategy, which envisages the use of tactical nuclear weapons by drastically lowering the door of restriction on the use of nukes. The fact shows that such nuclear weapons are not merely "deterrence means" of provision for the purpose of "removing threats" from the enemy states, but weapons for actual war to be used on battle sites in case of emergency.

The memorandum disclosed that the U.S. is the chieftain of horizontal proliferation disturbing the international nuclear non-proliferation system.

The Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, signed in 1968, stipulates the commitment of each nuclear weapons state and non-nuclear weapons state to non-proliferation, the right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes and the promotion of negotiations on nuclear disarmament, thus assuming the mission as a cornerstone of the international non-proliferation system.

But, the U.S. has openly handed over nuclear weapons technology to its vassal forces, going against the core provisions of the NPT and made the nuclear sharing with NATO member states an uncontrollable object of the treaty. Today it is massively deploying its nuclear attack means in foreign territories under the pretext of offering "nuclear umbrella" and "extended deterrence".

Moreover, the U.S. cooked up "nuclear operation guidelines" with the ROK and put the operation of "Nuclear Consultative Group" on a regular basis. And then it made a commitment that it would include nukes in the provision of "extended deterrence" to Japan. The facts vividly go to prove the true colors of the U.S.-Japan-ROK triangular military cooperation system which is evolving into a nuclear alliance under the leading role of the U.S.

Israel's possession of nukes and several pro-American countries' efforts to arm themselves with nuclear weapons, which are still arousing international concern and fear, are a product of the U.S patronage, connivance and backing from A to Z.

What should not be overlooked is that the U.S. is scheming to turn the AUKUS into a world's biggest nuclear submarine alliance by drawing Japan, the ROK, New Zealand, Canada and other allies into it.

The U.S. approval of the ROK's possession of nuclear submarines is another proof of the AUKUS-style proliferation with nuclear submarines as a vehicle, which is a dangerous development adding new instability to the political and military security environment in the Asia-Pacific region.

If the reckless nuclear proliferation acts of the U.S. are allowed to go on, the "Pandora's box" will be completely opened and humankind will face a terrible nuclear disaster.

The present geopolitical situation, in which the international nuclear order has reached the state of total collapse due to the U.S. radical nuclear arms buildup and undisguised nuclear proliferation, requires the DPRK to play a more positive role in defending the world peace and ensuring the global strategic security, the memorandum said, and went on:

The DPRK's option of action as a responsible nuclear weapons state will be strictly based on the grave reality in which no international body or treaty is deterring the U.S. from bolstering up its nuclear power and going on its nuclear proliferation.

This will be a clear criterion in the DPRK's efforts to protect the national security interests and the regional security environment. -0-

Speech on the 81st anniversary of the foundation of the Workers Party of Korea made by Dr Dermot Hudson to the online meeting on the 26.09.2026

 Dear comrades and friends,

In a few weeks time  the Workers Party of Korea ,the supreme general staff of the Korean revolution  and organiser and guide of all the Korean people’s victories will celebrate the 81st anniversary of its foundation by President KIM IL SUNG  . It seems like only yesterday that I was in Pyongyang for the 80th anniversary of the foundation of the Workers Party of Korea .

The anniversary of the foundation of the Workers Party of Korea is one of great importance because the Workers Party of Korea led by respected Marshal KIM JONG UN  organises and guides all the victories of the Korean people , it is the supreme general staff of the Korean revolution.The importance of the role of the WPK can never be understated or underestimated . Indeed in People’s Korea you will often see the distinctive flag of the WPK , with its hammer , sickle and writing brush , flying from street corners .

All the achievements of People’s Korea, which I have witnessed through my 20 visits  , are the result of the leadership and guidance of the Workers Party of Korea , which is transforming people’s dreams into reality .. New homes are given to people free of charge .During my visit I saw that there were no beggars or homeless , no lumpens,alcoholics or drug addicts . There was a complete absence of graffiti and vandalism.

On 10th of October 1945 the Communist Party of North Korea was formed around a nucleus of communist revolutionaries tempered in the fiery furnace of the anti Japanese armed struggle.Indeed the process did not come to an on October 10th 1945 but a further merger of parties took place in 1946 between the Communist Party of North Korea and the New Democratic Party to form the Workers Party of North Korea.This prevented the forces of the working masses being split .In 1949 the Workers Party of North Korea merged with the Workers Party of South Korea to form a unified party for the whole of Korea the Workers Party of Korea.Indeed the road travelled by the Workers Party of Korea since October 10th 1945 has been one of continuous struggle,development and consolidation.

It is not the purpose of my speech to give a detailed history of the Workers Party of Korea because there are many books and articles which do that . Also KFA UK has been organising online reading sessions on the booklet “Understanding the Workers Party of Korea “. Rather I will concentrate on explaining the policies and objectives of the Workers Party of Korea(WPK) .

The WPK was always different to other communist and workers parties because of its distinctive symbol the hammer ,sickle and writing brush . The writing brush actually represents the working intellectuals so the WPK is a party not just of workers and peasants but intellectuals too .

Unlike some former ruling communist parties which downgraded or neglected ideological work , the WPK upholds the ideology-first principle. This was recently stressed at the The Third Workshop for Officials in the Information Sector of the Workers' Party of Korea which was held from the 19th of September to the 21st of September . The general secretary of the Workers Party of Korea respected comrade KIM JONG UN addressed the workshop and said “

That is the Juche-oriented theory of ideology that should never change even though everything else in the world may change, and we are thoroughgoing advocates of the ideology-first principle.”

He called for a deepening of the WPK’s ideological and stressed the need for ideological work to keep pace with the fast changing realities of the country . 

I would like to mention that People’s Korea is one of the few countries if not the only country in the world to carry out deep going anti-imperialist class education . Not only is there the famous Sinchon Museum (now renamed Sinchon Class Education Centre ) but also class education centres in cities and provinces . I do not know of other socialist countries who do the same thing.

The WPK also a party based on the people -first principle . Chairman KIM JONG IL said that the WPK should be like a mother to the people . Marshal KIM JONG UN said that the people-first principle should permeate all activities of the WPK . Speaking at the mass parade for the 70th anniversary of the WPK in October 2015(which I witnessed in person )  he said that  “   As the great Workers' Party of Korea that believes in the people as in heaven, the people who are one and the same with the name of our sacred revolution and its 70 years of victory, is the locomotive leading the revolution and holds the switch weight of history, the avenue of the cause of the Juche revolution will always be adorned with victory and glory.

    I appeal to all the Party members.

    Let us all make selfless, devoted efforts for the good of the great people”

The WPK has indeed made selfless devoted efforts for the people and implemented a people-first policy . I would like to give two examples out of many .Firstly , at the At the Third Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea in June 2021 Marshal KIM JONG UN put forward the policy of supplying dairy products and nutritious foodstuffs to children in the DPRK free of charge .In February 2022 the Supreme People’s Assembly of the DPRK made this the law of the country . Of course people of my own age group will remember how in the UK there used to school milk but this was abolished by the then education minister Margaret Thatcher in 1970 ! .Secondly , at the 8th Congress of the Workers Party of Korea in January 2021 it was decided to build a total of 50,000 new flats or 10,000 per year in Pyongyang in forthcoming five years and 5,000 new flats per year in the mining town of  Komdok . 

In the DPRK houses are given to people free of charge ! The new Kyongru dong residential area on the Potong riverside, which I passed several times during my visits to the DPRK in 2024 and 2025 , not only houses the famous DPRK newscaster Ms Ri Chun Hee but also bus drivers and street cleaners  ! 

To conclude here the history of the Workers Party of Korea has been the history of the ideology first principle and the people first principle .

The Significance of The Formation of The Down With Imperialism Union In The History of the Korean Revolution. By Shaun Pickford

 October 17th, 2026, marks the 100th anniversary of the formation of the Down With Imperialism Union, which was the forerunner of the Glorious Workers' Party of Korea. The founding of the DIU by Kim IL Sung (Kim Song Ju) and his comrades marked a new chapter in the history of the Korean revolution. We must see the establishment of the DIU within the context of developments in Korea and internationally at that time, in the 1920s. The victory of the October Socialist Revolution in Russia had led to the spread of Marxism-Leninism around the world, including Korea. Since 1910, Korea had been annexed by the Japanese Empire and the very existence of the Korean nation was at stake. Korean nationalism, which had carried anti-imperialist, anti-feudal tinges, was beset by the limitations of its bourgeois nature. The nationalist leaders sought to appeal to the major powers such as the USA, Great Britain, and France for assistance in seeking freedom from Japanese domination. Among the Korean nationalist leadership, had naively believed that Woodrow Wilson's  (28th US President, 1913-1921) 14 Points would restore Korea's sovereignty with the aid of the League of Nations. Some of the leaders of the Korean bourgeois nationalist movement who settled in Shanghai degenerated into puppets of imperialism, the most infamous case being Syngman Rhee. A mass uprising against Japanese colonialism occurred throughout Korea on March 1st, 1919. The uprising lasted 10 months, showed that the patriotic spirit of the Korean people was still strong and resistance continued against the Japanese colonizers long after the suppression of the rebellion. The March 1st, 1919 uprising also exposed the weakness of bourgeois nationalism.

In April, 1925, the Communist Party of Korea was founded. Progressive activists secretly translated and printed the Marxist-Leninist classics into Korean in defiance of the Japanese Imperialists. In the early 1920s, class consciousness was emerging among the nascent working class in Korea with the setting up of the Workers' Mutual Aid Society (a proto-trade union). Between 1920 and 1925, there were over 330 workers' strikes in the industrial centres of Korea. The Korean Communist Movement was conducted by intellectuals who failed to conduct activities among the working masses. The early incarnation of the Korean Communist Movement was bedeviled with sectarianism in forms such as "The Tuesday Group", "The M.L.Group", "Seoul Group, amongst many others. There were even several preparatory committees for the establishment of a Communist Party in Korea by these factions. Dogmatism and flunkeyism were apparent in the early Korean Communist Movement, which was seeking advice from the Comintern (the Communist International, 1919-1943) for every question in the struggle for national and class liberation. Sectarianism and dogmatism led to the party (K.C.P.) being dissolved in 1928; Korean Communists were left without a vanguard party. 

The Korean National Association, led by Kim Hyong Jik (1894-1926), who was the father of Kim IL Sung, took a Marxist-Leninist position away from the confines of narrow nationalism, building on the anti-imperialist traditions of the KNA. Having been formed in March, 1917, the KNA had become the vanguard of the Korean national liberation movement, symbolized by the slogan "Chiwon (Aim High), in other words, to rely on the popular masses for victory in the revolution. Taking a critical view of nationalism and the early Korean Communist Movement, Kim IL Sung formulated an innovative ideological framework on the issues confronting the revolutionaries in Korea, based on the realities prevailing at the time. Kim IL Sung came to the conclusion that the movement to gain the social and national emancipation of the Korean people was through a clean break with the limitations of bourgeois nationalism and with the sectarianism of the early communist movement. That is, to build up a new communist movement with militants from the young generation 

Kim IL Sung and his trusted comrades formed the Down-With-Imperialism Union on October 17th, 1926. A large core of the recruits to the DIU came from the Hwasong Uisuk School, in Huadian, China, consisting of Korean exiles. The ideological and political programme was laid out in Kim Il-sung's inaugural speech to the DIU entitled "Let Us Overthrow Imperialism" (Kim IL Sung Complete Works Volume 1). This was the first-ever recorded speech by the Great Leader Comrade Kim IL Sung. The DIU set out as its immediate aim to defeat Japanese Imperialism and liberate Korea, to have a People's Democratic Revolution against colonialism and feudalism. While defining the ultimate objective to construct socialism in Korea, and to smash imperialism and achieve communism on a global basis. The foundation of the DIU constituted an historic declaration of a new and decisive period in the Korean Revolution. Rightfully, the DIU is considered the precursor of the Workers' Party of Korea, in which the foundations of building a Juche-oriented party arose. Kim Jong IL in his seminal work of October 17th, 1982, "The WPK Is A Juche Type Revolutionary Party Which Inherited The Glorious Tradition of the DIU", analysed the ideological and historical roots of the WPK in the creation of the DIU in 1926 and how a Juche-type approach to party construction was established by the DIU. From when the DIU was established, independence, creativity and consciousness became the watchwords of the Korean Revolution, with organisational unity being the key factor. Having deep connections with the popular masses in every possible sense was how the Korean Revolutionaries conducted their activities after 1926. In the following decades, the 1930s and 1940s, the Korean national liberation struggle entered a new era of momentous developments with the formation of the Korean Revolutionary Army and the AIJPGA, and the formation of the Association for the Restoration of the Fatherland in May 1936. The party organisations were essentially built up from the grassroots upwards. To have a fair idea of what conditions were like at the time of the founding of the DIU, I can recommend reading Vol 1 of "Reminiscences: With The Century" by Kim IL Sung.

Although circumstances in 1920s Korea were different from realities here in 21st-century Britain, there are many parallels between the tasks faced by Korean Communists in the 1920s and British Socialists in the 2020s. One issue is the spread of factionalism and dogmatism in our movements, and of course, the continuing influence of modern revisionism. We have, on the one hand, so-called broad "Left" parties consisting of a petty bourgeois basis and ideology, and on the other, purist sects that carry on the same old dogma regardless of changed conditions. Both these approaches to socio-political questions are equally counter-productive, and these parties and groups have no or very little influence or connections with the working masses in our country. To advance the cause of socialism, we should seek out novel and innovative ways to construct a movement among the broad mass of working people, in the spirit of the pioneers of the DIU did a century ago. 

The 100 years since the foundation of the DIU have seen the WPK become a mighty monolithic party based on Kimilsungism-Kimjongilism. With the decisions of the 9th Congress of the WPK and led by Respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, the DPRK is being transformed into a prosperous country, pushing frontiers of social progress forward. The formation of the Workers' Party of Korea by the Great Leader President Kim Il-sung signified the beginning of the age of Juche, marking a new chapter in the history of the Korean Revolution!

The British Group For the Study of the Juche Idea and Korean Friendship Association of the UK(KFA UK) held a successful meeting under the title of “ 100 years of revolution and anti-imperialism in Korea “ to celebrate the 81st anniversary of the foundation of the Workers Party of Korea and the 100th anniversary of the formation of the Down With Imperialism Union . The meeting was held on the 26th of September at 1400 hours in Brixton , south London. Participating in the meeting were members and officials of the British Group for the Study of the Juche and KFA UK as well as honoured guests of the DPRK embassy , the general secretary of the New Communist Party and members of the New Communist Party, a supporter of the Revolutionary Communist Party of Britain ML  as well as anti-imperialist ,progressive and working class activists from a variety of backgrounds and areas plus members of the general public.

Greetings to the meeting were received from Alan Bolon , KFA UK organisation secretary and head of KFA UK West of England.

Dr Dermot Hudson Chairman of the British Group for the Study of the Juche Idea and Chairman of KFA UK introduced the meeting stressing the importance of the anniversary of the foundation of the Workers Party of Korea and the Down With Imperialism Union . He also said October 9th is the 20th anniversary of the DPRK becoming a nuclear power .

Dr Hudson in his address about the 81st foundation of the Workers Party of Korea stressed that the history of the Workers Party of Korea is the history of the ideology-first principle and people-first principle . He also said that “ All the achievements of People’s Korea, which I have witnessed through my 20 visits  , are the result of the leadership and guidance of the Workers Party of Korea , which is transforming people’s dreams into reality .. New homes are given to people free of charge .During my visit I saw that there were no beggars or homeless , no lumpens,alcoholics or drug addicts . There was a complete absence of graffiti and vandalism.”

The meeting was addressed by Mr Ryu Kyong Jun , charge d affaires of the DPRK embassy in London who spoke about the 81st anniversary of the great Workers Party of Korea . He said that the Korean people keenly realise that the achievements of the past five  years are the result of the leadership of the Workers Party of Korea . Great miracles have been achieved braving all difficulties . The target of building 50, 000 flats in Pyongyang have been overfulfilled . Now the 9th Congress of the Workers Party of Korea has opened new vistas . DPRK citizens realise that future prosperity will be achieved by upholding loyalty to the Party . Only victories and miracles are in store when they follow the guidance of the Party .Mr Ryu’s address received great applause from the audience.

Shaun Pickford secretary general of the British Group For the Study of the Juche idea , addressed the meeting on the subject of the 100th anniversary of the formation of the Down With Imperialism Union (DIU ) saying that the DIU is the historic root of the Workers Party of Korea .Thanks to the leadership of President KIM IL SUNG , its founder , the DIU avoided the pitfalls of flunkeyism to great powers , dogmatism and factionalism . The history of the DIU and Workers Party of Korea teach important lessons for the British left and progressives .

Andy Brooks general secretary of the New Communist Party spoke about the achievements of the Workers Party of Korea and how he was greatly impressed when he first visited the DPRK  in 1990.

Dr Hudson also made a short address on the subject of the formation of the DIU saying that the Workers Party of Korea continues the revolutionary tradition of the DIU .

Some discussion on different subjects took place including a comparison between the superior advanced socialist system of the DPRK and other countries.

A message to respected Marshal KIM JONG UN was adopted .

There was an exhibition of literature from the DPRK and KFA UK including the works of the great leaders .

Refreshments were served.

  The Sinuiju Combined Greenhouse Farm built on the shore of the River Amnok at the northwestern end of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea is a monumental creation with a beautiful combination of a thousand and hundreds of modern greenhouses of different types, vegetable science research centre, modern houses, various bases for cultural life and peculiar landscape.

  It was inaugurated on February 1, 2026.

  In the farm area there is the Wihwado Railway Station which deals with the transportation of the vegetables produced at the farm and the processed goods produced at the vegetable processing factory.

  Here is a story telling how the railway station was built on the Wihwa Island.

  While guiding the construction of the Sinuiju Combined Greenhouse Farm, the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un specially emphasized that our construction should be steadily oriented to the new and development and the designs should reflect the multi-functional, multipurpose and practical ways suited to the characteristics, functions and prospectiveness of the projects concerned.

  Learning about the plan of laying out the Sinuiju Combined Greenhouse Farm, he said the Wihwado Railway Station should be a freight station carrying the vegetables produced at the farm, not tourists or passengers.

  And he stressed the need to change the functional structure of the railway station so that it can enhance its functionality and practicality as a comprehensive transport centre, build a new vegetable storehouse and place the vegetable processing factory around it.

  This is how the Wihwado Railway Station was built into the one fit for its use.
