Speech of Dr Dermot Hudson to the Online meeting for the 78th anniversary of the foundation of the DPRK

 The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea -DPRK will celebrate the 78th anniversary of its foundation tomorrow September 9th . The fact that the DPRK is 78 years old is itself a great achievement because the USSR which was regarded by some as the best model of socialism only lasted 69 years and the socialist states of Eastern Europe managed only 40 years of existence .

The DPRK was founded by President KIM IL SUNG and was the creation of the Korean people fully representing their interests and aspirations of the Korean people.

The 78 years of the DPRK’s existence have been 78 years of independence , sovereignty and self-reliance based on the Juche idea.

The very name Democratic People’s Republic of Korea reflects the independent and popular nature of the DPRK and show that the DPRK was not a copy of another country . It was President KIM IL SUNG who insisted on the name Democratic People’s Republic of Korea . Some factionalists tried to say that the name of the country should be “democratic republic “ or “people’s republic “ but not include the words “democratic “ and “peoples’ in the tile but President KIM IL SUNG opposed this .He had first put forward the name Democratic People’s Republic in his famous work “On building the party, state, and armed forces in the liberated homeland“ published on the 20th of August 1945.

After Korea’s liberation from Japanese imperialist rule in August 1945 various forces came forward each advocating a different road for Korea to follow but their theories and ideas did not represent the interests of the people or accord with the realities of the country . Some even called for the restoration of the feudal monarchy . Rightist capitulationists thought a bourgeois republic should be set up but this would exclude the workers and peasants the vast majority of the population and mean continuing with exploitation and oppression . Left opportunists called for immediate socialism and an instant dictatorship of the proletariat , basically the road of the Soviets, but this ignored the fact that Korea was a much smaller country than Russia and at different level of development than Russia in 1917.

Basing himself on the realities of Korea and the interests of the popular masses President KIM IL SUNG put forward the line of the anti-imperialist ,anti-feudal democratic revolution which aimed at eradicating the aftermath of decades of Japanese imperialist colonial rule as well as feudalism and landlordism . Advanced reforms such as the Agrarian reform which smashed feudal landlordism within the space of 20 days were carried out  . Moreover , women became equal with men according to the law on sexual equality , workers gained previously unheard rights with the passing of the Labour law and 90 per cent of industry was nationalised wiping out foreign and comprador capitalist ownership of the means of production .

Thus  the need arose to set up a new people’s democratic  state to consolidate and protect the gains of the revolution. In 1948 elections for the new Supreme People’s Assembly were held in August . On the 9th of September the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea was founded according to the decision of the Supreme People’s Assembly and comrade KIM IL SUNG was elected as Premier of the DPRK .

At long last the Korean people had their own state and held state power in their hands.The foundation of the DPRK was a powerful inspiration to the oppressed peoples  of the world ,groaning under imperialist oppression, in their struggle for independence and national liberation. It was also a great inspiration to the international proletariat advancing towards socialism .

  The DPRK was founded one year before the People’s Republic of China was founded . In 1948 in Asia some countries had not gained independence , for example Malaysia , Laos and Cambodia . Others such as the Philippines were ruled by reactionary puppet regimes . India had on paper gained independence but in reality still had a lot of British influence and had reactionary social structures . This puts into context the massive achievement that founding the DPRK represented .

The DPRK is the most independent country in the world , a true state of Juche . As Chairman KIM JONG IL wrote "Our Republic is an independent socialist State that absolutely maintains its Juche character and thoroughly preserves its national identity in its development and activities.

  The Juche character and national identity are the independence and lifeline of a country, a nation and the masses of the people. The struggle of the masses for independence is waged with the country and nation as a unit, so the party, the government and the masses of each country should conduct the revolution and construction independently and creatively as masters."

The achievements of the DPRK have been truly massive . During the 1950s despite being bombed to the point where there was almost nothing left to bomb (this was said by a US air force commander) the DPRK was able to recover from the destruction using basically its own resources (although there was some aid from the socialist countries ) and then industrialise at an amazing rate with industrial output value increasing at 36 per cent per year and a flat was built in 14 minutes in Pyongyang . Between 1957 and 1970 industrial output value increased at 19.1 per cent per year.

The DPRK is the only country in the world to provide free housing. No one should be against this ! The DPRK enforces many other popular people-orientated policies such as free education and free medical care.

Now even the Wall Street Journal , the vile mouthpiece of US monopoly capitalism and high finance was grudging forced to concede the DPRK is now growing rapidly saying that the DPRK is “ World’s Most Surprising Economic Success Story “ and that the  DPRK “built 10,000 new homes in Pyongyang — more than either Los Angeles or Chicago.” Of course 62 years earlier the famous Cambridge economist Professor Joan V Robinson said that the DPRK was the “Korean economic miracle . 

Lastly I was privileged to be in the DPRK for its 64th anniversary in 2012, the 68th anniversary in 2016 and the 70th anniversary in 2018 . I would like to share briefly some recollections .  During my September 2016 visit the DPRK conducted its 5th nuclear test on September 9th . I was attending a concert at the Pyonghwa Art Theatre  . As we climbed the stairs to the theatre my guide Mr Han said quietly but with steely resolution in his voice “Our country has just conducted a successful nuclear warhead test “ ! .

In September 2018 I was able to participate in the celebrations for the 70th anniversary of the foundation of the DPRK  . I recall the military parade held on the 9th of September . Leading the parade were troops dressed in the uniform of the anti-Japanese guerrilla's followed by

columns dressed in the uniform  of KPA soldiers of the Fatherland Liberation War .After that paraders from military academies marched past then . Gradually all branches of the Korean People's Army  marched past followed by tanks , artillery and missiles . Planes fly across the square and with fireworks made the number "70 " , this was extremely creative . Then  fighter bomber aircraft of the KPA roared across the sky trailing beautiful plumes of red , white and blue smoke , the colours of the national flag of the DPRK.

                 

The military parade was closely followed by a massive civilian demonstration . This of course symbolises the unity of the army and people which are unique to Juche Korea. It was a  veritable sea of colour as the marchers went past cheering enthusiastically and waving flowers .We could see watching the parade of the civilians that the people in the DPRK all support respected Marshal

KIM JONG UN and the great Workers' Party of Korea. It was like a great carnival of revolutionary ardour and militancy .There were beautifully designed floats , a real treat to look at. We saw slogans such as "Forward along the road of socialism ", "Lets us live our own way " and " Long live the revolutionary spirit of Mt Paektu ".

  When the parade finished, respected  Marshal KIM JONG UN came to the balcony and waved to the crowd . Everyone cheered , jumped up and down and waved.Respected Marshal KIM JONG UN looked happy and confident.

  The military parade symbolised the strength and durability of the DPRK.

So we congratulate the DPRK on its 78th anniversary and look forward to the 80th anniversary of the DPRK in 2028 !

A SPEECH on the occasion of the 78th Anniversary of the Foundation of the DPRK-Alan Bolon KFA UK Organisation Secretary and head of KFA UK West of England

It is a distinct honor and a great pleasure to welcome you to the ceremony marking the 78th anniversary of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

Let me begin in an unconventional way: the Polish writer Bolesław Prus once said that "anniversaries are the elevations in the landscape of our lives." These are moments that cannot be met with indifference—exceptional occasions that invite reflection and contemplation. Today, we have the opportunity to commemorate the 78th anniversary of the founding of a state that is truly unique, one that had no precedent in the historical models or experiences of other nations. On this 78th anniversary, it is worth recalling the unique aspects of the DPRK’s founding and development; it is also worth examining the present and tracing its foundations back to the glorious history of the DPRK’s inception. After all, every jubilee bridges tradition and modernity, experience and youth. Yet, a defining characteristic of the DPRK’s history—both past and present—is that the social development of the People's Korea, alongside its economic growth, rests on strong and enduring foundations. In this sense, the past and present converge, creating a basis—even amidst the many mounting international threats—to look toward the future with optimism.

This optimistic perspective is grounded in the facts of the DPRK’s current strength and its great historical legacy. In this view, the DPRK has never been merely a government-administered entity or an institution; rather, it has always been a cohesive community—a national collective united in heart and mind—forged by generations of great fighters. This lineage spans from the anti-Japanese struggle for liberation (1926–1945) led by the founder and Great Leader Kim Il Sung, through the heroic struggle in the war unleashed by American imperialism (1950–1953), to the generations of builders who dedicated their skills, enthusiasm, and hearts to constructing a new, socialist Korea based on the Juche idea. It is thanks to these people that today’s Korea enjoys the status of a fully sovereign, independent, and self-reliant state. These generations responsible for the DPRK’s current success did not ask "whether" to strive for excellence, but "how"; they found the answer in the Juche philosophy—a philosophy of epochal significance that, for the first time in the history of human thought, elevated the human being to the high and rightful status they deserve.

The list of those who have left an enduring mark on the history of the DPRK—those who built, developed, and supported it—is long. Many heroes of the Korean War sacrificed their lives for the current independence of the people's Korea. Although many are no longer with us, they left behind an indelible legacy and immortal deeds, the significance and magnitude of which we continue to discover to this day. Much could be said about the glorious history of the DPRK. Over the years, it has transformed, becoming ever more beautiful and ever more socialist. Yet, in essence, it has remained the same: a sovereign state of the people. It is not only a vital and indispensable part of the geopolitical landscape of Asia but also a part of our own lives, as we serve a great and glorious cause through our work with the Korean Friendship Association.

Distinguished guests gathered here today to mark the 78th anniversary of the founding of the DPRK!

This day—marking the 78th anniversary of the DPRK’s founding—reminds us that in any state, viewed as a socio-political entity, the human being is paramount; the popular masses, who create history and serve as its driving force, are what matter most. Those who forget this, or attempt to act in defiance of this immutable truth revealed by the Juche idea, will pay a heavy price. We already see this price being paid in the deepening social divisions and the mounting crisis of the global capitalist camp—a camp that increasingly directs the rage born of its failures—failures resulting from acting against the inexorable laws of history—toward militarism and war.

An anniversary is also an occasion for joy and hope regarding the years of magnificent development ahead for the People's Korea, and for future anniversaries that—I trust—will be celebrated with our participation.

Once again, I sincerely thank you for your presence on this day, which is so special to us. The DPRK has turned 78, yet as the Polish thinker Tadeusz Kotarbiński said: "The past preserved in memory becomes part of the present." That is why we strive to carefully cherish the magnificent traditions of the People's Korea and draw upon the wisdom of the people who shaped it. We cherish the quiet hope that, during future jubilees—including such a momentous occasion as the 100th anniversary—our contribution to the great mission of defending the truth about the People's Korea will also be remembered; a mission we fulfill with honor and dignity for the sake of our dear Korean friends.

  78 years has passed since the word of "people" was written on the name of the country. Ten years are enough to change mountains and rivers and such ten years has passed almost 8 times.

  Looking around at the world, a lot of things were changed. But there was no change in the years of the people which lapsed under the national flag and the idea of people-first principle.

Wealth for the People

  Architecture is a criterion and standard showing the level of development of the times concerned.

  Many countries and nations of the world try to demonstrate their civilization and development through structures.

  The DPRK is carrying on gigantic construction projects throughout the country to provide the people with a happier and more civilized life.

  It is not possible because of rich and surplus things in the country but a fruition brought by the noble intention of the Workers' Party of Korea that if it is desired by the people, it should be carried out without fail no matter how difficult and hard it may be.

  In recent years, almost 60,000 flats have been built in Songhwa, Hwasong and Rimhung streets in the capital city of Pyongyang and over 110,000 modern rural houses in the socialist countryside.

  Regional-industry factories, modern hospitals and leisure complexes, precious assets conducive to the improvement of the people's living including the Sinuiju Combined Greenhouse Farm and the Samgwang Livestock Farm, and bases for cultural and emotional life were built in all parts of the country

.

  Those structures built across the country are different in scale and form. But all those creations have a common point that they are wealth for the people.

True Beauty of the Hwasong Area

  The Hwasong area is a block of city which has come into being in the capital city of Pyongyang in recent years. The name of its administrative district is Hwasong District of Pyongyang. The Hwasong area is still under construction.

  More than 40,000 modern flats have been built over the past four years and they were provided to ordinary working people.

  Worker Kwon Se Il at the Taedonggang District Building Management Station is living in People's Neighbourhood Unit No. 76, Songam-dong of Hwasong District.

  His wife, a mother of three children, is working at a garment factory.

  They were provided with a flat well equipped with three rooms, a kitchen and a washroom from the state without paying a penny.

  It is said that they don't feel any inconveniences in life as the residential quarters have schools, nurseries, kindergartens, clinic and all kinds of public service amenities and commercial service network.

  The couple are working hard for the grateful socialist system which gave such a wonderful new street to the working people as a whole.

  Paek Ryong Suk living in People's Neighbourhood Unit No. 38 of Hwawon-dong No. 3 also has an unusual pride.

  Her three brother and sisters have become the owners of new streets and flats over a few years.

  Her sister was provided with a new flat in Songhwa Street and her family and brother with new flats in the Hwasong area.

  Several months have passed since they moved into new houses, but they are said to fail to sleep easily every night, feeling too grateful for the state benefits.

  The ordinary working people who have become the owners of modern houses and their bright smile make us think again what is the true beauty of the Hwasong area with modern houses built one after another.

  Our streets are so beautiful as they represent the genuine happiness and bright looks of the people.

  There are many flourishing streets boasting of their outstanding architecture and modern beauty on the globe, but they won't be able to be compared with the beauty of new streets built on this land.

People's Laughter Gets Louder

  People's laughter gets louder everywhere in this country with each passing day.

  Some people are pleased at the modern houses they received gratis and working people are seen fully enjoying a new life and civilization at bases for cultural life such as the Wonsan Kalma Coastal Tourist Area and the Onpho Working People's Holiday Camp.

  Seen at the modern industrial establishments and on the socialist fields are working people feeling a great worth and pride of labour and the children's laughter and singing are heard from the schools, nurseries, kindergartens, baby homes and orphanages across the country.

  Laughter is something that cannot be forced.

  Every day is passed for the sake of the people in this country, which holds the people in high esteem and gives them all happiness. Herein lie the true feature of socialist Korea and the superiority peculiar to the DPRK.

  The Korean people ardently love socialism. That is why the DPRK is so strong. 

National Flag-hoisting and Oath-taking Ceremony Takes Place on Birthday of DPRK

 

Pyongyang, September 10 (KCNA) -- All the citizens and families of the DPRK greeted the 78th national day amid ever-soaring patriotic enthusiasm of all the people to make great transformations and strides, true to the revolutionary programme unveiled at the Ninth Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea.

A national flag-hoisting and oath-taking ceremony took place solemnly at the Pyongyang Assembly Hall on September 9, the 78th founding anniversary of the glorious motherland Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

Respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and President of the State Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, attended the commemorative event.

Present there were members of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the WPK and other leading cadres of the Party, government and armed forces organs, senior officials of the Standing Committee of the Supreme People's Assembly, the Cabinet, commissions, ministries and national agencies, commanding officers of the Korean People's Army and deputies to the SPA in Pyongyang.

The venue was overflowing with intense desire of the participants to devote all their strength, wisdom and enthusiasm to the glorious and worthwhile struggle for bringing earlier a bright future, adding lustre to the great history of their ever-victorious country.

Led by the head of state, the participants solemnly pledged before the sacred national flag to remain boundlessly sincere in promoting the people's well-being and the growth and development of the country, firmly defend the Constitution of the Republic, strictly observe the legal duty, firmly defend the socialist ideology and the socialist system and remain faithful to their beloved motherland so as to add eternal glory to its greatness and beauty as responsible members defending the sovereignty of the DPRK and interests of its people and serving the state and people.

Comrade Kim Jong Un made a congratulatory address to all the people on the occasion of the national day.

He extended warm congratulations and thanks to the working people, service personnel and families across the country for their continuous creation, boundless devotion and responsible contribution to the prosperity and development of the country on the occasion of the national day.

His warm congratulations also went to the overseas compatriots' organizations and overseas compatriots that always share their breath and mind with the homeland, praying for the brilliant journey of the Republic. And he paid special thanks and high tribute to the commanding officers and soldiers of the army involved in overseas military operations.

Our ideal is being realized rapidly thanks to patriotism, voluntary service and devoted contributions by all citizens praying for the country's prosperity, and our fighting morale for reaching the goal has also been greatly boosted, he said, adding that the national prestige and dignity have been further enhanced year by year, thanks to the arduous struggle of the Korean people, alongside their ever-soaring spirit to bring earlier a dignified, powerful, peaceful, secure, revolutionary and prosperous era.

Saying the further our socialist cause advances, the higher ideals and ambitions we have, instead of greater joy and satisfaction, he noted that the reality of the Korean revolution, in which all are waging the struggle for tomorrow with higher and more goals than today and make vigorous progress of their own style, fully demonstrates the inexhaustible potentials and united strength of the country and the absolute confidence in the future, and this remarkable development is being realized by the resourceful Korean people.

Noting that the righteous minds and efforts of the people loving and supporting the country and serving it with loyalty have become the pillars of irresistible might to fully prop up the current brilliant reality of the country, he said that the extraordinary pride and self-confidence in the great country, fervent patriotism and outstanding talents and strong self-respect of the Korean people make everyone aspire to a stronger, more prosperous and more beautiful future of the DPRK. This shared desire unites our country and all our people, steadily increases the national power and provides confidence, courage and inexhaustible creative power enabling them to race against time, he added.

Expressing his will to ensure that the Party and the government make all efforts to shoulder heavier responsibility, make a bigger stride and achieve dynamic advance, he wished all the people and families across the country warm peace, joy and happiness, affirming that only victory and glory are in store for the great, resourceful and brave people.

The participants were greatly excited by the enthusiastic speech made by Comrade Kim Jong Un who declared the unshakable faith and will to bring earlier the powerful, prosperous and beautiful future of the nation, firmly believing in the ardent patriotism, wisdom and inexhaustible creativity of the great, resourceful and brave Korean people.

When Comrade Kim Jong Un finished his speech, all the participants burst into stormy cheers of "Hurrah!"

All the participants hardened their strong will to fulfill the important responsibility and duty, entrusted by the people, with tireless enthusiasm and strenuous efforts in the vanguard of the historic sacred cause for the immortal glory of their country and the victory of Korean-style socialism, true to the original idea of the great Comrade Kim Jong Un on building a country guided by the people-first principle. -0-

Respected Comrade Kim Jong Un Meets and Congratulates Labor Innovators and Meritorious Persons Invited to Celebrations of National Day

Pyongyang, September 10 (KCNA) -- Respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and President of the State Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, met labor innovators and meritorious persons invited to the celebrations of the 78th founding anniversary of the DPRK at the Pyongyang Assembly Hall on September 9.

The participants, who were honored to be present at the glorious moment they had greatly yearned, broke into enthusiastic cheers with reverence for Comrade Kim Jong Un, whom they had so much longed to see, with pride and honor of having devoted patriotic enthusiasm and efforts to the crucial course of advance for making a breakthrough in attaining the new long-term goals set by the historic Ninth Congress of the Party.

  A new history of regional transformation is opening up in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea along with the vigorous implementation of the regional development policy in the new era.

  Modern regional-industry factories were built in 40 cities and counties in two years' time, making an active contribution to improving the living of the local people.

  In those days, a variety of beautiful stories were heard in different places of the country.

Everybody Comes

 

  An inaugural ceremony of new regional-industry factories was held in Jangyon County on December 18, 2025.

  After that, many people visited the house of Kim Il Sim and Im Kum Hyang living in the town.

  At first, the house was visited by their villagers and now even by outsiders.

  When he took part in the inaugural ceremony, the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un held a child in his arms, beaming all over his face. The child was their daughter Kim Mi Rae.

  So everybody wanted to know where the fortunate child was living, what her parents were and what she told him.

  All the visitors took her by the hand and had pictures taken with her, saying she is a happy child blessed by Marshal Kim Jong Un.

  The house of an ordinary worker's family has become a house everybody visits and envies.

A Story about "Our Products"

  Sinyang County is a mountain county with high and low mountains standing like a folding screen and with many narrow and deep valleys.

  The number of varieties of the regional-industry products of the county increased more than five times and its total industrial output value more than two times compared with those one year ago.

  All the local people say:

  "We would go to the town to buy good commodities. Now we don't need to go there as our local products are as good as those in the town."

  "Really wonderful is the furniture which is produced in our county."

  "I sent foodstuffs made of wild fruits to my relatives in Pyongyang and they requested more."

  Similar stories can be heard from the children growing healthily taking the confectionery and dairy products supplied to them every day and the people who moved into the new rural houses. They boast of the treasure factories and special products of the county.

Products of Mountain Counties Go beyond Their Bounds

  Songchon County, which witnessed the first groundbreaking and inauguration of regional-industry factories, produces jam, fruit preserved in honey, sweet jelly and the like with its special product--Songchon chestnut--as raw materials. Those products were well known even to other regions.

  The Unsan County Foodstuff Factory presented processed pine nuts including sweets, cakes and sponge cakes to a number of exhibitions held in Pyongyang last year and it is requested from across the country to send them.

  The people in Usi County, a remote mountain county in the north, have also become the masters of the region with a lot of prides. Growing is the demand for the tara vine jam, pear jam and apricot jam, the special products of the county.

  Black stone craftworks of the Yomju County Daily Necessities Factory and various kinds of grasswork of the daily necessities factory in Kaephung District of Kaesong are also popular among outsiders and they are expanded to other regions.

  Various kinds of good-quality products of the modern regional-industry factories go beyond the bounds of the regions to other places of the country.

Name of a Baby

  Touching stories produced by the new era of regional development are posted on a number of websites of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea almost every day.

  A subscriber posted a story telling about how she named her baby.

  When a number of people gathered, she asked for naming a baby to be born soon but she couldn't choose a name to her taste. Some days after the news of the new regional-industry factories inaugurated in Cholwon County, her birthplace, she could give a perfect name to her baby. It was "Jin Hung" meaning that it is a happy child who was born in the new era of regional rejuvenation.

Unfamiliar Road to Home

  A student of a national-level university in the capital city blogged an article:

  "I came home on vacation. The road to my home had been quite familiar to me. But it was not this time. New regional-industry factories were built in Kilju, Orang and Kyongsong through which I pass on the way to my home and the county seats were face-lifted. So the road has become unfamiliar and new to me.

  There is a saying that ten years are enough to change mountains and rivers. On this land, however, mountains and rivers are changed not in ten years but every year, nay, day after day.

  The road to my home gets newer with each passing day.

  After graduating from the university, I will come back home and devote my enthusiasm to building it up beautifully."

  The Korean people are proud of living in the new era of regional transformation. And they are convinced that the day of the overall national prosperity will come earlier for sure.

"Let Us Unite on the Strength of Patriotism!"

Comrade Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, said we should arm and unite all the people with patriotism and that he consistently asserts the slogan "Let us unite on the strength of patriotism!".
At an important Party meeting, he advanced it as a slogan of patriotism to be held up by all the Korean people.



His patriotic appeal served as the motive force that enabled the entire people to more firmly unite with patriotism and turn out as one for the cause of building a powerful socialist country.
One day, Comrade Kim Jong Un said: In view of our ideals and objectives, we should be changed at much faster speed than now and transform all realms, all sectors and all regions anew within a decade with more dynamic, strenuous and devoted efforts.
Our greatest strength and surest advantage and potentials in this struggle are the extraordinary political awareness and strenuous spirit of the entire people who have achieved unity on the strength of patriotism and turned all out in this endeavour, he added.
Herein lies the answer to the question of with what our socialist cause advances, where the source of strength of our state is and how the firm guarantee for it is provided.

Genuine Patriots, True Representatives of the People

In the DPRK, labour innovators and meritorious persons who devote themselves to the prosperity and development of the country and the well-being of the people have been invited as VIPs to the celebrations of the founding anniversary of the DPRK every year since 2021.
The labour innovators and meritorious persons invited to the celebrations of the 77th founding anniversary of the DPRK had the honour to have a picture taken with Comrade Kim Jong Un.



Comrade Kim Jong Un said the prosperity and mightiness of our Republic are the fruition and result of the ardent sincerity and extraordinary practice of the patriotic people who firmly consolidated the foundations of the state and added vigour to the vibrant country with inexhaustible passion and painstaking efforts.
And he added that the labour innovators and meritorious persons who are making redoubled efforts while prioritizing the state affairs and keeping the national interests above all else are the qualified masters of our era and ardent patriots.
The other day, he showed all his love to the labour innovators and meritorious persons who speculate and make strenuous efforts to lighten even a heavy load of the country, saying they are the true representatives of the people and genuine patriots.
Under his loving care, a luxury residential district for ordinary working people was built and many labour innovators and meritorious persons had the honour to have photo sessions in his presence at the headquarters building of the Party Central Committee and the Pyongyang Assembly Hall.
Keeping his love and trust in their hearts, they are devoting their inexhaustible efforts to the prosperity of the country.

Large Contingent of Patriots

The following happened on the day when Comrade Kim Jong Un visited the Chonsong Youth Coal Mine under the Sunchon Area Youth Coal-Mining Complex, a leading one of the DPRK.
That day, Comrade Kim Jong Un encouraged the workers and officials of the Chonsong Youth Coal Mine and highly appreciated that the workers in the field of coal industry are the hard core of the country performing the most valuable feats in the vanguard of state building.
He considered the painstaking efforts of the coal miners, saying he cannot but feel deep reverence for them to think that there is the path of patriotism the most beautiful and purest persons follow all their lives under this ground people tread on casually and that the traces of unyielding efforts are unmistakable at every bend of the path.
He also mentioned the families of patriotic miners working at the colliery for three generations. Saying that without genuine affection for this country, they could not have worked in such deep pits generation after generation--a job which other people find it hard to engage in, he appreciated all of them as honest citizens who live with such faith and conscience.
Everywhere in this country can be found those patriotic citizens who devote themselves to the country with such faith and conscience.
All the Korean people regard it as due obligation of citizens to work devotedly at their workplaces.
Comrade Kim Jong Un proudly affirmed that thanks to the large contingent of genuine patriots, only victory is always in store for our glorious motherland--the DPRK--which is making a dynamic advance and leap forward, ushering in a new era of national prosperity.

Today, the Korean people are building a powerful socialist country by dint of the strength of patriotism and unity, more firmly rallied around Comrade Kim Jong Un.

Ever Prospering State of Juche -special article for the 78th anniversary of the foundation of the DPRK

It was on September 9th 1948 that  President KIM IL SUNG founded the great Democratic People’s Republic of Korea , a powerful state of Juche and an invincible socialist country .  The foundation of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK ) was met with the rousing cheers of the people because for the first time in the thousands of years of history the Korean people had their own state , a state not ruled by a landlord or capitalist and not ruled by imperialists or outsiders, a state ruled by the people

The very name , Democratic People’s Republic of Korea is unique and represents the interests and aspirations of the Korean people to have their own state that is democratic and people oriented ! . I myself always liked the name Democratic People’s Republic of Korea  because it sounded different to other socialist countries and special . Yes it is special because the DPRK is a people centred socialist country . The DPRK is truly democratic because it has a people’s government which fits the definition of democracy as rule by the people for the people .

The DPRK is rooted in the traditions of the anti-Japanese armed struggle During  the anti-Japanese armed struggle  in the early 1930s People's Revolutionary Governments were formed in the liberated areas of the guerrilla zones. The People's Revolutionary government was the prototype of people's power,a forerunner of the DPRK. They carried out land reform and enforced an 8 hour day for workers . The DPRK was the first state of people's democracy to be founded in the far east as the People’s Republic of China came into being one year later in 1949 . The DPRK blazed an untrodden trail. After Korea’s liberation from Japanese imperialist rule in August 1945  the Korean people under the wise leadership of the great leader comrade KIM IL SUNG fully completed the tasks of the anti-imperialist , anti- feudal democratic revolution which completely eliminated the oppression of Japanese imperialism and the feudal landlords . People’s committees organs of popular rule were set up . 

The anti-imperialist , anti-feudal democratic revolution was not carried out in smooth conditions but in an atmosphere of intense struggle against class enemies , reactionaries and opportunists of all kinds . The landlords opposed the Agrarian reform which distributed land free of charge to the honest working farmers of People’s Korea . Moreover the US imperialists had seized the southern part of Korea ,threatening the liberated Korean people and sent agents and saboteurs into the northern half of Korea to sabotage and disrupt the revolution.

 

The need arose for the Korean people to set up their own people’s democratic state to protect the gains of the people  and Korea and carry the revolution forward. Thus on the 9th of September 1948  after having concluded elections to the new Supreme People’s Assembly in August , the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea was founded under the leadership of President KIM IL SUNG , a genuine creation of the Korean people. As President KIM IL SUNG said   “Through a long and arduous revolutionary struggle the genuine communists and patriots of Korea achieved the historic cause of national liberation and established the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea in their freed country.”

The DPRK took the road of independent development and the road of socialism . As respected Marshal KIM JONG UN said in his speech for the 77th anniversary of the foundation of the DPRK last year  “The truth is that socialism we chose is the one and only right road.

It was on the strength of the justice and truth embodied in socialism that we have won all the glory we are enjoying today; having established a powerful political system and built a great national strength, we will not allow the destiny of our country to be left to any foreign forces’ devices.

Today all the people’s belief in socialism of our style and their strenuous efforts to defend and add lustre to it without fail are vigorously promoting our national development to open a new phase of prosperity”

After completing  the tasks of the anti-imperialist , anti- feudal democratic revolution in a short space of time and switched over to the socialist revolution proving the validity of the Juche-orientated theory on continuous revolution .Socialist transformation of production relations was completed in 1958 thereby creating an advanced , people-centred socialist system.

The DPRK has consistently implemented people centred policies even under conditions of extreme blockade and sanctions. The DPRK has free health care, free education (including university level), low cost food and many other benefits .

Today under the dynamic leadership of respected Marshal KIM JONG UN the DPRK has embarked on a massive housing construction programme as well as a programme of developing regional areas . Visiting the DPRK in 2024 and 2025 I witnessed astonishing progress . The DPRK is becoming even more prosperous . It is the ever-prospering state of Juche .

Report of Online Meeting for the 78th Anniversary of the foundation of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea 08.09.2026

The Korean Friendship Association of the UK (KFA UK ) and the British Group For the Study of the Juche Idea organised an online meeting to celebrate the 78th anniversary of the foundation of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK ) . The meeting was held at 1900 hours BST on the 8th of September.

Participating were members of the KFA UK and the British Group For the Study of the Juche Idea from London , the West of England , north west and some other areas as well as a representative of the British Posadists and a member of the CPGBML . Also taking part was KFA Germany , KFA Greece and the People’s Korea Initiative of Poland .

A message from the DPRK Embassy in London to the meeting was received and read out by Dr Dermot Hudson Chairman of KFA UK and Chairman of the British Group For the Study of the Juche Idea . The message emphasised that  “On this significant occasion of the day, the DPRK people recollect with deep emotion the nation-building exploits of President Kim Il Sung who founded the DPRK and developed it into an invincible socialist country.

During the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle, the President put forward the Juche-oriented line of building the people's government and gained valuable experience in building the government.”

KFA UK Organisation Secretary and head of KFA UK West of England stressed that  “On this 78th anniversary, it is worth recalling the unique aspects of the DPRK’s founding and development; it is also worth examining the present and tracing its foundations back to the glorious history of the DPRK’s inception. After all, every jubilee bridges tradition and modernity, experience and youth. Yet, a defining characteristic of the DPRK’s history—both past and present—is that the social development of the People's Korea, alongside its economic growth, rests on strong and enduring foundations. In this sense, the past and present converge, creating a basis—even amidst the many mounting international threats—to look toward the future with optimism”

Dr Hudson in his speech said that “The fact that the DPRK is 78 years old is itself a great achievement because the USSR which was regarded by some as the best model of socialism only lasted 69 years and the socialist states of Eastern Europe managed only 40 years of existence .

The DPRK was founded by President KIM IL SUNG and was the creation of the Korean people fully representing their interests and aspirations of the Korean people.

The 78 years of the DPRK’s existence have been 78 years of independence , sovereignty and self-reliance based on the Juche idea”

Dr Hudson also recalled his visit to the DPRK in September 2018 for the 70th anniversary of the foundation of the DPRK.

The head of KFA Germany said that the DPRK is the target of constant demonisation but few people actually know the country and think that they know better than the people of the DPRK and those who visited the DPRK . He stressed that the DPRK had achieved great things .

The head of KFA Greece said that the DPRK has recently opened a new road bridge to Russia and made big achievement in the field of sports and the economy .

Other speakers noted the DPRK’s resilience in defending socialism and continuing the legacy of socialism and also the role of the DPRK in sending military assistance to the Russian Federation.

Dr Hudson shared the online photo exhibition “On the Occasion of the 78th Founding Anniversary of the DPRK - For the People’s Wellbeing” to the meeting .

A letter to represented Marshal KIM JONG UN was adopted .

The documentary “A New Era of Overall Development Brought by Great Leadership (2020-2023)” was streamed to the participants.

78 years ago on the 9th of September 1948 the great leader President KIM IL SUNG founded the great Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK ).

The foundation of the DPRK meant that the Korean people took power in their hands and marked the birth of a powerful state of Juche , a state of independence .

  Shining in the history of prosperity of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea are the undying feats of the great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il who firmly defended socialism of Korean style by consolidating the national power in every way.

By Enforcing the Songun Politics

  In the 90s of the 20th century, the US imperialists and the imperialist reactionaries directed the spearhead of attack against the DPRK invariably holding high the banner of independence, banner of socialism, with the collapse of socialism in some countries as an opportunity.

  The DPRK was faced with harsh trials and difficulties unprecedented in history due to the vicious moves of the imperialist reactionaries to isolate and stifle it.

  At that time, Comrade Kim Jong Il put forward the Songun (military-first) politics as the basic political mode of socialism.

  Songun politics is a political mode of defending the country, revolution and socialism by regarding the military affairs as the most important of the state affairs and strengthening the People's Army in every way, and building up the driving force of the revolution and powerfully pushing ahead with the overall socialist construction with the People's Army as the core and main force.

  Comrade Kim Jong Il stressed the need to build the country into a people's paradise and socialist power which is strongest and prosperous in the world and good to live in at the famous work "The Democratic People's Republic of Korea Is a Juche-Oriented Socialist State with Invincible Might" and different other works.

  He said peace, an independent, creative and happy life of the Korean people, and victory of socialism are guaranteed by the People's Army.

  He underscored the need to develop the People's Army into an invincible revolutionary army and consolidate the national power in every way by constantly directing big efforts to the development of the defence industry.

Uninterrupted Long Journey for Defending the Country

  Comrade Kim Jong Il visited a company of the Korean People's Army on January 1, 1995.

  He acquainted himself in detail with the military and political work of the company and living conditions of soldiers.

  He was greatly encouraged by the soldiers who were staunchly safeguarding the socialist country, holding fast to the arms of the revolution.

  That day, he expressed his firm faith and will to lead the country and socialism to victory with the Songun politics.

  He made an uninterrupted long journey of Songun from the historic day to the last period of his life.

  He called on service personnel of the People's Army for field guidance even on red-letter days and holidays, saying he would become the Supreme Commander who finds himself among the soldiers and shares life and death with them at the battle posts clouded with powder smoke in the future, too.

  The traces of his devotion are left in every part of the country including the Chol Pass with 99 turns which is 16 kilometres up and 16 kilometres down, the extremely dangerous road with sheer cliffs of Mt. Osong and the windy sea route to Cho Islet with high waves.

  Wherever he went, he convinced the soldiers of the noble consciousness of patriotism that they should defend the country in order not to be slaves of imperialism and gave the invincible might and courage to them.

  Under his energetic leadership the KPA could demonstrate its might as the invincible revolutionary armed forces which are perfect politico-ideologically and in military technique.

  The DPRK could be safeguarded thanks to the long journey of Songun made by Comrade Kim Jong Il.

  At that time, a famous European expert in the Korean affairs, in an article, wrote:

  "Three miracles have been witnessed in the DPRK since the mid-1990s.

  First, the DPRK, which had almost disappeared on the international political arena, has been developed into a state representing socialism.

  Second, the Korean people extricated themselves out of the abyss of death and are building a powerful country.

  Third, the United States and other Western countries tried to stifle the DPRK, but now they have extended a helping hand of reconciliation to the latter."

  Comrade Kim Jong Il strengthened and developed the DPRK into a socialist country with invincible might and his immortal exploits are shining forever

The Face of the Anti-Korean Campaign - Who Is Joanna Hosaniak? from the People's Korea Initiative of Poland

In recent days, an unprecedentedly hostile campaign targeting the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea has erupted on the TVN television network. Its vehicle has been Martyna Wojciechowska’s programme, which featured interviews with “defectors” as well as Joanna Hosaniak-a person who has professionally engaged for years in spreading falsehoods about the DPRK. The purpose of this activity is to deliberately distort the authentic image of a country that can boast numerous achievements in building a just socialist system. It is therefore unjustified to accuse this state of allegedly violating the rights of its citizens; on the contrary, the DPRK takes particular care of its people despite extremely unfavourable external conditions, including the unprecedented sanctions regime imposed upon it. Evidence of this can be seen in the extensive housing projects in the capital, carried out as part of universal, free access to housing, as well as in the modernisation of infrastructure in the provinces, the dynamic development of rural areas, and other similar initiatives.

The key figure setting the tone of this hostile narrative is Joanna Hosaniak herself-the deputy director-general of the so-called Citizens’ Alliance for North Korean Human Rights (NKHR). This organisation is funded directly by the National Endowment for Democracy, an institution financed by the United States Congress—a power whose foreign policy has for years consisted of the unilateral demonisation of sovereign states, including the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. Moreover, Hosaniak worked for four years at the Embassy of South Korea—a state that remains formally at war with the DPRK. Can a person with such clear connections be regarded as a credible and impartial source of information? The answer is obvious.

One does not need to be an insider to see that NKHR has no interest whatsoever in presenting an objective picture of reality. Its continued existence and financial stability depend on the goodwill of its Washington-based patrons-the very same people who do not hesitate to undertake military interventions around the globe in pursuit of their own selfish interests. NKHR is merely a cog in the American machinery of influence, while its deputy director—supported by those same circles-repeats ready-made formulas dictated to her by those who commission her work, including on the airwaves of a television station that is likewise funded from across the Atlantic. Polish viewers should be fully aware of this obvious conflict of interest.

Particularly outrageous, however, is the fact that NKHR, which so zealously speaks out about allegedly violated human rights in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, simultaneously supports reprehensible actions such as sending balloons deep into the North. The Polish public has not been widely informed about the disgraceful practice that allegedly took place during the COVID-19 pandemic. At a time when the DPRK—thanks to responsible and rational anti-epidemic measures—remained for years the only country in the world free of coronavirus, the balloons reportedly contained protective masks that had previously been used by infected individuals (the virus can remain viable on materials for up to eight hours), as well as other items originating from sick people. This was a deliberate and calculated act, allegedly intended to trigger an outbreak of infections and destabilise a sovereign state at the expense of the lives and health of ordinary citizens.

How, then, can organisations of this kind dare to present themselves as moral authorities and “educate” society when their activities are allegedly based on blatant falsehoods and support for such repugnant provocations? It is time for media audiences in Poland to open their eyes to this cynical game and recognise who truly stands behind the anti-Korean campaign-and on whose behalf its participants are acting.

The People's Korea Initiative of Poland
