Pyongyang, November 18 (KCNA) -- The Socialist Women's Union of Korea (SWUK) greets its 75th founding anniversary.
The Democratic Women's Union of Korea, predecessor of the SWUK, was founded on November 18, Juche 34 (1945) under the wise guidance of President Kim Il Sung. Its foundation was a significant event as it opened the road for fundamental change in socio-political life of the Korean women.
After Korea's liberation from Japan's colonial rule, the President formed the women's union prior to other working people's organizations and promulgated the Law on Sex Equality.
Thus, the Korean women could free themselves from the centuries-old feudal oppression and humiliation and take part in the political, economic and cultural life equally with men and hasten the revolution and construction as the dignified masters of building a new society.
Thanks to the wise guidance of Chairman Kim Jong Il, the SWUK was strengthened into a revolutionary women's political organization with strong fighting capacity which remains faithful to the guidance of the Workers' Party of Korea.
The Chairman gave answers to the theoretic and practical issues arising in the development of women's movement through his famous works like "Women Are a Powerful Force for Pushing Ahead with the Revolution and Construction". He took measures to find models of the era among the women performing labor feats in various sectors of the national economy and learn from them. In the last year of his life, he enjoyed a performance given by women's union art groups across the country and showed his deep trust in the women's union.
The great leaders' idea on building a Juche-oriented women's union and their immortal feats for it are now creditably carried forward on a new high level by Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un.
The Supreme Leader made public his famous work "Let Us Further Intensify the Work of the Women's Union under the Banner of Modelling the Whole Society on Kimilsungism-Kimjongilism" to indicate the orientation and ways to be adhered to permanently in further intensifying the work of the union in accordance with the demands of the new era of the Juche revolution. And he has wisely guided the women to play their role as the strong force pushing one of the two wheels of building a powerful socialist country. -0-
