When tensions between the north and south of Korea are easing, and the door is being opened towards peace and reunification upon the Korean peninsula, the British Defence Minister has made a hysterical statement without any foundations.
For decades, the DPRK (North Korea) has faced the strong possibility of a surprise nuclear attack from the United States. At one point, the US had something within the region of 1,000 nuclear weapons stationed in South Korea and aimed at the northern half. Since 2006, the DPRK has redressed the imbalance and developed its own nuclear deterrent force. It is true that the Hwasong-14 ICBM manufactured by the DPRK can reach the territory of the United States.
To say, as Lord Howe does, that North Korea is going to launch a
nuclear missile against the United States is both a ridiculous and
immature assertion to come out with. In reality, the United States has a
total of 6,000 nuclear armaments at its disposal. The nuclear weapons
of the DPRK are there for the purpose of self-defence against the forces
of imperialist aggression, do not threaten anyone.
Lord Howe's outburst comes when there are growing sentiments of peace and reunification in Korea. No conspiracies and slanders by hostile outside forces will manage to stop the movement of the Korean people themselves for the peaceful independent reunification of Korea. The attempt by Lord Howe to spread panic among the British public is utterly groundless. The DPRK desires closer diplomatic, economic and cultural ties with the United Kingdom.
It is in the interests of peace and independence for there to be better relations between the UK and the DPRK, that the warmongering of Lord Howe has no place in the modern world. The Staffordshire KFA Branch calls the Peace, Labour and Anti-Imperialist Movements, and indeed upon all people of goodwill to aspire for peace and reunification in Korea and for solidarity with the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea!!
