The primary question that presents itself in order to completely crush the "reform" and "opening" manoeuvres of the imperialists is to correctly understand the reactionary nature of these manoeuvres and the inevitability of their failure.
The imperialists cling to the manoeuvres of "reform" and "opening up" to carry out their strategy of "peaceful transition".
The imperialists and reactionaries not only cling to the military strategy of eliminating our republic, the bastion of socialism, but at the same time they engage in all sorts of manoeuvres to realise their aggressive ambitions by means of the strategy of "peaceful transition".
The imperialists' strategy of "peaceful transition" did not emerge today or yesterday.
The strategy of "peaceful transition" was presented as early as August 1949 by the then US Secretary of State, Acheson, and was later further implemented by the US Secretary of State, Dulles, in the 1950s.
Dulles, a warmonger who experienced the bitter taste of defeat in the Korean War, claimed that the U.S. policy consisted of promoting the "liberalization" of socialist countries, including our country, and argued that socialism should be "peacefully transformed" into capitalism through the method of instilling "ideas of freedom" within socialist countries, ideologically corrupting people, and provoking distrust and a spirit of resistance against the system.
The U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee pointed out, in a report that presented the guiding principles for the formulation of U.S. foreign policy in 1960: "We must establish the widest contact with communism and instill in them the principles of the West, the dignity of the West, and the tastes of the West. The aim is to erode and degenerate the ideology of communism."
In 1983, the then US president, Reagan, held a "conference on the democratization of communist states" and vociferated that it was necessary to accelerate the strategy of "peaceful transition" by taking advantage of the opportunity of implementing reforms and opening up in socialist countries.
The strategy of "peaceful transition", to which the imperialists cling so obstinately, aims to disintegrate the socialist countries from within, to make them return to the capitalist road and to bring them under their political and economic domination.
The fact that the imperialists talk about "reform" and "opening up", defame our system and exert pressure on us is nothing more than a cunning ploy by the imperialists and reactionaries to realize their aggressive ambitions through the strategy of "peaceful transition".
The great Leader Comrade Kim Jong Il taught:
"The imperialists and their followers, in calling for 'reform' and 'opening up', have as their fundamental intention to destroy the socialist system in our country and restore the capitalist system. The enemies pursue the sinister goal of disintegrating our socialism from within through 'reform' and 'opening up' and converting it into capitalism according to their tastes."
The reactionary nature of the manoeuvres of "reform" and "opening up" imposed on us by US imperialism and its following forces consists, in short, in destroying our socialism and restoring the capitalist system.
The manoeuvres of "reform" and "opening" of US imperialism and its follower forces aim, first of all, to disintegrate socialism from within, to restore the capitalist system and to transform the popular masses back into slaves of capital.
The only way to realize the demands of the masses of the people, who want to be free from exploitation and oppression, to have an eternal socio-political life as masters of the state and society, and to live independently and creatively, is the road of socialism. No matter how much one tries to embellish and make up capitalism, it remains an anti-popular exploitative society that represses the independence of the popular masses.
Only in socialist society can the masses of the people occupy the position of masters of the state and society and fully exercise their rights as owners.
Our people are convinced, through their own practical experience of life, that it is precisely socialist society that is the highest society, fully compatible with the independent nature of man.
The imperialists and reactionaries manoeuvre fiercely to disintegrate from within the socialism deeply rooted in the hearts of our people. Calculating that they could not destroy our socialism by the policy of force alone, U.S. imperialism and its follower forces cling even more shrewdly to the manoeuvres of "reform" and "opening up."
The imperialists and reactionaries, while obstinately clinging to the manoeuvres of isolation and suffocation against us using the "nuclear question" and the "human rights question" as their main pretext, also exert pressure to induce us to "reform" and "opening up" by means of economic blockades and economic sanctions.
In the political sphere, the bourgeois multi-party system and, in the field of property, "diversification" represent the restoration of capitalist private property.
Due to the treacherous acts of modern Social-Democrats, in these countries the parties were torn apart, power passed into the hands of the capitalists, and the economy faced ruin. As a result, the peoples ended up reduced to slaves of capitalism, where unemployment, poverty, crime and corruption prevail.
The aim of the "reform" and "opening-up" manoeuvres of the imperialists and reactionaries is precisely to provoke a similar situation in our country as well and to eliminate our socialism.
However, the imperialists know very little about our people. Our people advance along the road of socialism with the leader, the Party and the masses united monolithically, and no pressure or blockade can break their conviction.
We must resolutely crush the "reform" and "opening-up" manoeuvres of the imperialists and defend and glorify socialism to the end in our style.
In the political sphere, the freedom of action of the bourgeois parties and, in the field of property, "diversification" constitute a combination of private property.
The "pluralisms" introduced by modern social democrats under the pretext of "reform" and "restructuring" have provoked a serious crisis in the countries of Eastern Europe, including the former Soviet Union.
In the countries of Eastern Europe, including the former Soviet Union, which accepted "reform" and "opening up" by yielding to pressure from the imperialists and their followers, society was not democratized, but politically reactionary.
By means of political crooks infiltrated into the Party, the parties of the working class were disintegrated, heterogeneous parties and organizations raised their heads, diverted popular opinion and came to control the parliament and the government, giving rise to abnormal situations; In addition, conflicts and antagonisms between nationalities and regions intensified and society ended up fragmented.
The crisis brought about by "reform" and "restructuring" appeared not only in the political sphere, but also in the economic one.
With the introduction of the capitalist market economy, prices soared, while mass unemployment and inequality between rich and poor worsened.
Under the pretext of "transparency" and "openness", modern social democrats introduced bourgeois liberalization, causing various crimes to proliferate in society, while decadent bourgeois ways of life and moral depravity came to prevail.
These situations occurring in all fields of social life – politics, economics, culture and others – have been provoked by modern social democrats who have adhered to the policies of "restructuring" and "reform" of US imperialism and its following forces, constituting living examples that prove in practice the reactionary nature of the manoeuvres of "reform" and "opening up" imposed by the US imperialists and their followers.
Although U.S. imperialism and its follower forces struggle to degenerate and corrupt our socialism through the methods of "reform" and "opening up" and to restore capitalism, this is nothing but an unrealizable fantasy.
The inevitability of the failure of the "reform" and "opening-up" manoeuvres of the imperialists and their follower forces lies, in the first place, in the fact that they are reactionary manoeuvres aimed at blocking social development and reversing the course of history, as well as constituting cunning and absurd methods of aggression to impose their dominating intentions under the sign of "globalisation".
Socialism is the revolutionary idea and banner of the masses of the people who are fighting for independence.
The advance of mankind towards socialism is an inevitable stage of historical development.
In a society of antagonistic classes based on individualism, the independence of the popular masses cannot be realized. A society based on individualism inevitably divides society into antagonistic classes, generates class antagonisms and social inequality, and accompanies the exploitation and oppression of the popular masses by a small ruling class.
Particularly today, due to the individualistic greed of the capitalists, the antagonistic contradictions of capitalist society have reached the extreme. Therefore, in order for the masses of the people to realize their independence, it is necessary to move from a society based on individualism to a socialist society based on collectivism.
The socialist society based on collectivism is the most advanced society compatible with the independent nature of the human being. Collectivism is an inherent requirement of man, and only through it can the independent demands of man be fully realized.
It is a law of history that mankind should advance along the path of socialism, the aspiration and desire of the masses of the people. The fact that the imperialists and reactionaries are trying to degenerate our socialism, restore capitalism and reverse the course of history is nothing but a foolish illusion.
The very "globalization" defended by US imperialism and its followers is also absurd.
The process of development of nations does not consist in one nation assimilating or annexing another, but rather in each nation developing into a civilized and powerful nation, freely creating its own life and history, and continuously extending cooperation and mutual relations among nations on the basis of complete equality and voluntariness.
However, U.S. imperialism and its followers ignore the laws of the development of nations and use "reform" and "opening up" to transform all fields of social life — political, economic, cultural and other — into American and Western models, thus realizing their domination.
This shows that "reform" and "opening up" constitute cunning and sinister methods of aggression designed to bring our country under their domination.
Our people are a people of strong independence and regard independence as something more precious than anything else. Our people are a revolutionary people who never forgive, not even in the slightest, anyone who attacks our independence.
Even if the imperialists and reactionaries obstinately pursue "reform" and "opening up" in order to bring our country under their control, this can never be accomplished at any time.
The inevitability of the failure of the "reform" and "opening-up" manoeuvres of the imperialists and their follower forces lies, secondly, in the solidity of our socialist system and in the fact that our country has been firmly consolidated as an invincible socialist fortress.
Today, our socialist system has been strengthened like a rock through the storms of revolution, and our country has been transformed into an invincible socialist fortress through the struggle to crush the anti-socialist offensive of the imperialists and reactionaries.
Today, our army and people, possessing the unshakable conviction that they will certainly win as long as they have the esteemed General, a great ideological theoretician, an outstanding statesman and a commander of steel who is always victorious, unite monolithically around them and fight vigorously for the victory of the revolutionary cause of Juche.
The monolithic unity of our army and people around the great Leader Comrade Kim Jong Il is the most solid unity, impossible to be destroyed by any force, and constitutes a powerful weapon capable of completely crushing the "reform" and "opening-up" manoeuvres of US imperialism and its follower forces.
The fact that U.S. imperialism has repeatedly failed for more than half a century, in spite of using every possible means and method—war, blockade, threats, pressures, sabotage and murderous conspiracies—to destroy our socialism, is due to the wise leadership of the esteemed General and the monolithic unity of our army and people firmly united around it.
As much as the imperialists and reactionaries cling to military threats, blackmail and economic blockades to lead us to "reform" and "opening up", this will never work against us.
The "reform" and "opening" maneuvers of U.S. imperialism and its follower forces against our country will continue to bring only shameful defeats, as in the past.
In order to completely crush the "reform" and "opening" manoeuvres of the imperialists, it is necessary, first of all, to raise high the banner of the Juche Idea and to solve all the problems of revolution and construction in our own way.
Our style means conducting revolution and construction in accordance with the independent aspirations and demands of our people, with the own forces of our people and in accordance with the concrete conditions of our country. There is no method superior to our style.
We must have the firm conviction that our style, the Juche style, is the best, solve all the problems of revolution and construction in our own way, and fight resolutely against all erroneous phenomena that contradict our style.
In order to completely crush the "reform" and "opening-up" manoeuvres of the imperialists, we must also resolutely fight against the illusions about imperialism.
We must clearly observe the miserable reality faced by countries and peoples who have placed illusions in imperialism and completely overcome even the slightest element of illusion about imperialism.
With high class consciousness and vision, we must acutely reveal the reactionary, anti-scientific and illusory nature of the "reform" and "opening-up" manoeuvres of the defenders of modern imperialism and firmly defend socialism, which is our life and our way of life
