With the COVID-19 crisis remaining unabated, the immorality and depravity characteristic of the U.S. is revealed in all its nakedness. Amid such circumstances, acts of abuse and fraud against the elderly are running rife, stirring up apprehension among the general public.

Major press in the U.S. including Wall Street Journal recently exposed that the case of abuse of the elderly during the period of January - September in the year 2021 increased more than twofold against the same period in the year 2019.

Yale University of the U.S. also contended that more than one out of every 5 elderly people suffered physical abuse during April - May period in the year 2020 – an increase by 83.6% compared to the pre-COVID-19 outbreak.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) released its investigative results which show the explosive nature in the acts of fraud against the elderly, an increase by 55% during the period of 2019-2020, compared to the past period.

The ways of abuse and fraud against the elderly are also beyond imagination, much to the consternation of the people.

Some time ago, the U.S. newspaper Wall Street Journal carried an article about a staff member at an old folk’s home who assaulted an 83-year-old lady and broke her teeth. It also reported that not a few family members are threatening their elderly parents saying that they will be sent to old folks’ home unless they give them money. They also verbally abuse the elderly or even assault them just to get rid of the stress piled up from the COVID-19 crisis.

Recently, a larceny broke out in Denver, Colorado, U.S. where a staff member of an old folks’ home stole an engagement ring and a credit card of an 86-year-old elderly who died of COVID-19. In Miami, Florida, a document of landownership belonging to an elderly person in one’s eighties was robbed from the person in broad daylight after having been counterfeited.

The above facts clearly show that the U.S. society is indeed a living hell rife with immorality and depravity, much less provision of basic human rights, where even the elderly people who are supposed to be under social protection live in agony and misery day after day.
