August 25th 1960 is a day that went down in history because it was when the great leader comrade
KIM JONG IL started his Songun revolutionary leadership at the Seoul Ryu Kyong Su No 105 Tank Division of the Korean Peoples Army (it was the tanks of the 105th tank division of the KPA that had been first to enter Seoul when it was liberated from US imperialist and fascist puppet rule on the 28th of June 1950) . Songun means simply the idea of attaching importance to military force, importance to arms. It was first pioneered by the great leader President KIM IL SUNG . It can be said that the history of the Korean revolution is the history of Songun . By visiting this important unit of the KPA comrade KIM JONG IL carried forward the Songun idea and started the Songun based revolutionary leadership.
On visiting the unit comrade KIM JONG IL said " To defend the Party and leader to death os the basic mission of our People's Army and the core of its glorious traditions ". Thus he defined the core purpose of the KPA as defending the Party which is the general staff of the Korean revolution and guiding force of socialism in Korea. Some people wrongly thought that Songun simply meant the military taking over or that the military were elevated over the Party . Nothing could be further from the truth . The KPA is the army of the Party , the revolution and the working class . Throughout the years of his Songun revolutionary leadership comrade KIM JONG IL always bore this in mind and stressed it . Later respected Marshal KIM JONG UN in his work "Let Us Add Eternal Brilliance to Comrade Kim Jong Il's Great Idea and Achievements of the Songun Revolution" said that " Leadership of the Party is the lifeline of the KPA, and its might is inconceivable separated from the leadership of the Party. The general direction ahead of the KPA is one, that is, to advance straight forward with guns levelled in the very direction our Party indicates. Our arms must serve as an ever-lasting cornerstone that ensures a sure guarantee for the Party and its cause.". This aptly
summed up the teaching of comrade KIM JONG IL on the leadership of the Party over the armed forces.
Under the Songun revolutionary leadership the DPRK has been fortified ever more strongly as powerful socialist state of independence.A country of Juche which is able to do what it likes and say what it like no matter what others may say or think.Comrade KIM JONG IL brilliant commander of Songun declared on the 1st of January 1995,at the Takasbol army post that the Korean people had a choice of either being an independent people adhering to socialism or colonial slaves of imperialism.
It is thanks to the Songun revolutionary leadership of comrade KIM JONG IL which was continued by dear respected Marshal KIM JONG UN , that the DPRK has emerged a socialist military power of Juche , a strategic state , that is able to sit down with the US and negotiate on equal terms .
Songun has made the DPRK into a citadel of independence . We remember the great feats performed by comrade KIM JONG IL during his Songun revolutionary leadership.
