The following commentary on BBC Panorama "Educating North Korea " was issued by the ASSPUK , JISGE and UK KFA.

BBC's Panorama programme has acquired the reputation of an extreme DPRK bashing outfit after last year's offering of lies and distortions , true to form Panorama's "Educating North Korea " contained old lies and new lies .

There are questions of how the programme makers obtained entry to the DPRK as the DPRK embassy in London appeared to be unaware as to how the programme had been made.

The programme centred exclusively on the Pyongyang University of Science  and Technology(PUST) which had been built with the assistance of overseas Koreans and had been conceived during the period of inter-Korean co-operation during the so-called "Sunshine era " of a previous south Korean regime which had signed the June 15 declaration and unlike its successors was committed to reducing tension on the Korean peninsula and promoting inter-Korean exchange. PUST is just one  of 230 universities in the DPRK . In fact the programme could have said something about the massive and unprecedented educational advance in the DPRK . Before liberation there was not one university in the northern half of Korea but the number increased to 170 by the early 1970s. PUST is also just one of tens of universities in Pyongyang and is overshadowed by the larger and prestigious universities such Kim Il Sung University , Kim Chaek University of Technology and the University of National Economy . So why focus on PUST ? why not have a documentary about Kim Il Sung University which is home to 10,000 students and which is far more representative of DPRK society  . Well the makers of the programme did so because they see PUST as " Trojan Horse " to export bourgeois ideology and imperialist influence  into the DPRK so as to destroy Juche-based socialism from within . This tactic is known as the "peaceful transition" strategy .
Of course we in the UK Korean Friendship Association , the Juche Idea Study Group of England have never had any truck with those elements who under the guise of "friendship " and "co-operation " seek to  "build bridges"  which are really aimed at destroying Juche-based socialism by crafty means . An example of such organisations is the so-called "All Party Parliamentary Group on North Korea" . We totally defend the DPRK and its socialist system.

The programme was full of inaccuracies and distortions. The programme began by slandering the supreme leadership of the DPRK over the recent incident of  the counter-revolutionary faction . It was basically a gratuitous denunciation.
The programme wrongly described Christianity as being banned in the DPRK when in fact there are three churches in Pyongyang , Catholic, Protestant and Russian Orthodox as well as an active Korean Christian Federation.

PUST was described as being a university for the children of the "elite " , no evidence was actually offered to prove this . In fact that the students were shown performing cleaning work . In fact in the DPRK there is no such thing as an elite , unlike capitalist countries higher education is free of charge with students even receiving a monthly living allowance . In the DPRK all officials are expected to  do one day of manual labour per week and the Chongsan -ri method whereby there is a mandatory obligation on officials to go down to lower units and help them.
It also said that there were no women students at PUST. However most DPRK universities  have at least 50 per cent woman students with some universities having up to 60% women.
As usual with the BBC and other western media the old horsechestnut of "labour camps " was brought up with a satellite image which could be anything being described as a "labour camp". Recently, the DPRK ambassador to the UK comrade Hyon Hak Bong explained that there are no such things as labour camps in the DPRK only places for re-education.

Space does not allow for a piece by piece refutation of the programme .  However one thing amongst others stood out. Apparently, the interviewer seemed to find it shocking that a student had not heard of Michael Jackson , the deceased American entertainer and alleged child molestor . Does listening to Michael Jackson music help grow crops ? , does it help develop the cutting edge of new technology ? , does it contribute to improving living standards ? the answer to all these questions is no !. What this showed is the imperialist arrogance of the programme maker in thinking somehow the decadent culture of imperialism is superior to other cultures and must be forced on other countries regardless of their customs, traditions and tastes . In fact the people of the DPRK are better off without the degenerate whooping and screeching sounds of Michael Jackson !.
We, the ASSPUK, JISGE and UK KFA, condemn the BBC or the British Brainwashing Corporation for yet another slanderous and criminal hatchet job on People's Korea the land of Juche . Those who seek to destroy Juche socialism by underhand and devious means of " building bridges " will fail in the end and Juche-socialism will be victorious !

Quotes of General Kim Jong Il.

Panorama's Inaccuracies - comments by a JISGE member

I have just endured yet another anti-DPRK propaganda film by the BBC (Panorama). I list the following points where the documentary was inaccurate:

• Kim Jong Un is described as a brutal despotic leader but in reality he is held in the greatest respect by all Koreans for advancing the Juche idea, improving living standards, Education standards and the National economy.

• The presenter stresses the point that the students of the university have not heard of Michael Jackson. Michael Jackson is not famous in North Korea because Korean culture has not been polluted with Western input, unlike in south Korea.

• The film makes the ridiculous claim that the DPRK persecutes Christians. In reality under the article 68 of The Socialist Constitution of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, religious freedom is guaranteed.

• The film suggests that the students are unhappy. The film contradicts itself by interviewing a Korean student who states he is happy because the government guarantees him a job, a home and all necessities for life.

• Unlike in the West, Korean students appear to be very work focused and not fazed by social media sites.

• Random satellite images show an alleged concentration camp but there was no evidence that this camp exists, apart from this documentary incorrectly stating that it does.

• The documentary makes a statement that the students are dissatisfied with the government but all students have a keen sense of national pride in the interviews.

• The film states that the number of Koreans attending Mass is small. This is because Korea does not have a large Christian population or a long history of Christianity.

• The film finished on a part showing all students working together to keep the University clean and tidy. If the public understood the successful Juche Idea they would see that the people of Korea have been taught to work together for the good of the nation.

No Michael Jackson in the DPRK !

Apparently the Panorma programme on the DPRK had the usual shock horror nonsense , this time a DPRK student had not heard of Michael Jackson ! Oh no ! Well the DPRK has gone up in my estimation for not allowing such decadent puerile music produced by a sick and crazy individual who hired servants for his pet monkeys ! The people of the DPRK do not need the screeching and whooping of a demented product of a sick society . Long live Juche culture !

A meeting of electorate took place with splendor at Paektusan Constituency No. 111 Monday to nominate Kim Jong Un as a candidate for deputy to the 13th SPA.
Present there were Choe Ryong Hae, Ri Yong Gil, Jang Jong Nam and officials of the Ministry of the People's Armed Forces and KPA service personnel.
Vice Marshal of the KPA Choe Ryong Hae, member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the WPK and director of the KPA General Political Bureau, made a report.
He said the path covered by the DPRK under the leadership of the Songun commander of Mt. Paektu is a sacred path in which it emerged victorious by dint of the spirit, pluck and gut of the supreme commander, and a gigantic path in which it created world-startling miracles and innovations.
Through their life experience the KPA service personnel keenly felt that the bright future of Songun Korea and the victory of building a thriving socialist nation, the lifelong desire and wish of the great Generalissimos, are guaranteed only when they follow the supreme commander.

Rodong Sinmun Calls for Intensifying Ideological Campaign

Pyongyang, February 3 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun Monday in an editorial calls for adorning this year as one of victory in idea and leap forward by intensifying an ideological campaign, information service and agitation true to the leadership of supreme leader
Kim Jong Un.
The editorial underlines the need to intensify the ideological revolution in the field of ideology of the party to make the whole country seethe with revolutionary enthusiasm and militant spirit.
The on-going ideological campaign is a great political and ideological offensive for successfully carrying out the cause of modeling the whole society on Kimilsungism-Kimjongilism and an all-out offensive for firmly establishing the unified leadership system of the Party throughout the party and society.
It is, at the same time, a main thrust of information service and agitation for raising a strong wind of a fresh leap forward on all fronts for building a thriving nation, the editorial says and goes on:
It is the basic purpose and primary requirement of the on-going ideological campaign to make all members of society true soldiers, adherents and steadfast revolutionaries of President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il who take their revolutionary idea as the monolithic guidelines and live and struggle as required by them.
All service personnel and people not only follow the intention of their leader but also advance along the road indicated by the party. This unbreakable single-minded unity of the DPRK can be more fully displayed only in the crucible of ideological tempering.
It is the great mental power of the popular masses that works miracles. The army and people can overcome whatever difficulty and occupy any fortress when they are strong in idea and will.
Only when the revolutionary march is loudly sounded in all parts of the country and all fields and units are full of dynamism and vitality, will the DPRK make greater leap forward and will greater successes be registered in building a thriving nation. -0-
