A People's Leader Carrying forward the revolution - special article by Dr Dermot Hudson for the 11th anniversary of the supreme leadership of respected Marshal KIM JONG UN

In April 2012, respected Marshal KIM JONG UN was elected to the highest posts of the Party and the State of People’s Korea making him the Supreme Leader of People’s Korea, the land of Juche. Since then respected Marshal KIM JONG UN has pushed forward the Juche revolution and the Songun revolution at a fast pace. Indeed I recall the first-ever public speech of respected Marshal KIM JONG UN made on the 15th of April 2012 in KIM IL SUNG square, Pyongyang in which he said “The permanent strategy of our revolution and its final victory lie in going straight along the road of independence, the road of Songun, the road of socialism" This was an affirmation that Marshal KIM JONG UN would stick firmly to the road of socialism come what may and would carry forward with pride and with red flags flying high, the revolutionary ideas of the great leader President KIM IL SUNG and Chairman KIM JONG IL. I recall during my visit to the DPRK in April 2012 seeing the red flag flying on the streets of Pyongyang and schoolchildren marching to school carrying little red flags and singing the song ‘Footsteps ‘, the theme song of respected Marshal KIM JONG UN. Indeed the era of supreme leader Mashal KIM JONG UN had begun.

At the time the US-led imperialists and other enemies of Juche socialism entertained the hope that with the change of leadership, the DPRK would adopt ‘reform ‘ and ‘open up’   dismantling the precious hard worn socialist system of Juche. However, Marshal KIM JONG UN made sure that this was to be an empty and idle daydream. In December 2013 respected Marshal KIM JONG UN defeated the modern factionalist clique who schemed to overthrow socialism and restore capitalism. This earnt the DPRK and Marshal KIM JONG UN the undying hatred of imperialism, and since then the imperialists have intensified their campaign of slander and psychological warfare which defamed Marshal KIM JONG UN and the socialist system of People’s Korea. However, Marshal KIM JONG UN has remained unbowed.

When the US imperialists, the south Korean puppets and the satellite states of US  imperialism heaped pressure on People’s Korea and carried out numerous military provocations, Marshal KIM JONG UN put forward the line of building the economy and nuclear force in parellel, the revolutionary line of Pyongjin , at the March 2013 Plenary meeting of the Central Committee of the Workers Party of Korea. The DPRK did not repeat the mistake of Libya where Col Gadhafi abandoned and surrendered the Libyan nuclear programme only to be killed a few years later in an imperialist-sponsored counter-revolution. The DPRK under the leadership of respected Marshal KIM JONG UN crossed the nuclear finishing line to become a socialist nuclear power of Juche and an ICBM power.

Respected Marshal KIM JONG UN firmly belied in people-oriented policies and putting the people first. In his speech given at the parade for the 70th anniversary of the foundation of the Workers’ Party of Korea  in October 2015, he concluded by saying “Let us all make selfless, devoted efforts for the good of the great people.”

Despite the greatly intensified sanctions of the US-led imperialists, the DPRK under the leadership of respected Marshal KIM JONG UN carried out huge programmes of construction. Whole new streets the size of towns such as Mirae Scientists Street, Ryongmyong Street and Songhwa Street were completed. When floods hit the DPRK in the last few years, the rehabilitation and reconstruction of flood-afflicted areas were given priority by respected Marshal KIM JONG UN who travelled in person to the areas concerned to guide the work of reconstruction. Now a massive programme of housing construction is being carried out in Pyongyang and in rural areas.

Respected Marshal KIM JONG UN has adhered to the principle of self-reliance and self-development saying that "self-development alone is the road to sustaining the dignity of our country and our nation and to paving a broad avenue for the revolution and construction". The might of the self-reliant independent economy has increased. The DPRK has manufactured its own tube train, light aircraft, trams, trolleybuses and new type tractor in recent years. In January 2020 the DPRK closed its borders yet has sustained itself for over 3 years when some countries would not last beyond a day or two with their borders closed.

 When Covid 19 was deliberately sent into the DPRK by the south Korean puppets, the DPRK dealt with the situation on its resources without aid from the imperialists. Respected Marshal KIM JONG UN took immediate decisive action such as mobilising medics of the Korean People’s Army to fight the epidemic. Covid 19 was eliminated in the DPRK within 90 days and with a minimal fatality rate. This contrasts with the imperialist and capitalist countries whose authorities showed incompetence and indecision resulting in high death tolls from Covid 19.

The 11 years of respected Marshal KIM JONG UN’s supreme leadership have seen great victories and there will be more victories under his supreme leadership.
