June 15 All-Korean Committee Pledges to Implement Panmunjom Declaration

Pyongyang, June 15 (KCNA) -- The north, south and overseas side committees for implementing June 15 Joint Declaration issued a resolution Friday, the 18th anniversary of the June 15 joint declaration.

All-Korean Committee for Implementation of June 15 Joint Declaration made public the following resolution with the will to take the lead in ushering in a new era of peace and prosperity, a new history of independent reunification:

1. We will hold fast to the June 15 joint declaration and its successor the Panmunjom Declaration as a milestone for reunification common to the nation.

We will invariably maintain as the great programme for reunification common to the nation until the day of national reunification the June 15 joint declaration which declared a new start of our nation's history and vigorously advanced the June 15 era.

We will firmly adhere to the principle of national independence that we decide the destiny of our nation by ourselves, as clarified in the June 15 joint declaration and reaffirmed in the Panmunjom Declaration.

We will strive to make the north-south relations dynamically develop under the milestone clarified in the Panmunjom Declaration, and decisively reject any interference and arbitrary practices against the north-south relations, the internal affairs of the nation.

2. We will vigorously wage a nation-wide campaign for the implementation of the Panmunjom Declaration and thus positively promote the reconciliation and unity of the nation.

We will jointly push forward the work to hold events common to the nation to be participated in by the authorities, parliaments, political parties and local self-governing bodies, non-governmental organizations and other people from all walks of life on the occasions of the anniversaries of the north-south declarations and other days significant for both the north and the south and, through such course, further fan up the atmosphere for national reconciliation and reunification.

We will encourage the contacts and visits among bodies of different circles and sectional and regional organizations in the north and the south and abroad and reenergize diverse meetings for reunification in conformity with their specific characters, thus creating the warm climate of implementing the Panmunjom Declaration wherever Koreans live.

3. We will further invigorate the activities to defuse the military tensions and remove the danger of war from the Korean peninsula.

We will jointly strive to build a mechanism for keeping lasting and durable peace on the Korean peninsula and stage a vigorous mass movement for preventing all forms of actions that may cause distrust and antagonism between the north and the south again and escalate the military tension, contrary to the desire of all the fellow countrymen and the spirit of the Panmunjom Declaration.

We will fully display the spirit and will of our fellow countrymen to turn the demilitarized zone along the Military Demarcation Line, an acute hotspot, into a real peace zone and the West Sea into peaceful waters and usher in a new era of peace and prosperity free from worry about war. -0
