Fatherland Liberation War Martyrs Cemetery

On July 25, Juche 102(2013) the Fatherland Liberation War Martyrs Cemetery was built to mark the 60^th anniversary of victory in the Fatherland Liberation War.

It covers a total area of 200 000m²

In front of the cemetery, there are gateposts of three-figure group of sculptures with a fluttering party and national flags as their background and figures “1950” and “1953”（period of the war）inscribed on them.

After passing the gateposts the visitors can see the monument to proposition of President Kim Il Sung that heroic feats and undying exploits performed by the officers and men of the People’s Army will be recorded forever in brilliant golden letters in the revolutionary history of the Korean people and told forever down through generations.

There also stand the monument to poem dedicated to the fallen fighters and sculptures depicting the heroic struggle of People’s Army soldiers.

The memorial tower of the People’s Army Martyrs with the height of tens of meters is composed of a rifle, a bayonet, a national flag and a Republic Hero medal.

It portrays in a peculiar style of formative art the ideas that the country, happiness, future and final victory are all guaranteed by weapons.

In front of the memorial tower, there is a wreath-laying stand “Soul of Heroes” representing martyr’s coffin.

In the area of the semi-circled cemetery, there are graves of over 500 fallen fighters on 9 tiers according to the years of their death.

The gravestones with stone photographs of martyrs on them are inscribed with a medal of Hero of the DPRK, their names, birthdays and death days.

Marshal Kim Jong Un suggested building the Fatherland Liberation War Martyrs Cemetery and gave scrupulous teaching on its site and the ways and means for the building. He said our Party is the owner of the graves of the People’s Army martyrs, known and unknown, who sacrificed themselves in the Fatherland Liberation War.

As the Fatherland Liberation War Martyrs Cemetery was newly built, the heroic feats of the People’s Army martyrs could be glorified forever with prosperity of Socialist Korea and the army, people and younger generations of the DPRK could more deeply learn the indomitable revolutionary spirit and the spirit of defending the country.
