August 25 of this year marks the 62 nd anniversary of the starting of the Songun revolution inspired and led by General Kim Jong Il, when he visited the Seoul Ryu Kyong Su 105 th Tank Regiment on this same day in the year 1960. On that occasion, he delivered a speech to the soldiers, titled, «Let Us Defend With Our Lives the Party Central Committee Led by the Respected Comrade Kim Il Sung» Is the Slogan Our People's Army Must Uphold At All Times, in which he said: «Defend with one's own life the Party and the leader is a decisive guarantee for the victory of our revolution. As ourpeople did not have a prominent man at their head in the past, they were deprived of their country from the Japanese imperialist aggressors and had to suf er their colonial rule with all manners of contempt and humiliation. It is our great leader Kim Il Sung who gave them authentical freedom and happiness and a worthy life. If, even in the present times, many people are depried of their country and the tragedy of slavery is imposed upon them, that is because they have not a prominent leader. No people could ever be powerful and respected and enjoy freedom and happiness until they have at their forehead a great man and be strictly united around him.» 1
I had the good luck of finding myself in Pyongyang for the 55° Day of Songun, on August 25, 2015. I could clearly perceive the militant atmosphere of the capital city, with national flags fluttering and red banners with revolutionary slogans all around Kim Il Sung Square. On that day, I happened to travel through the countryside, where I saw 4-meters-tall ears of wheat (the bumper harvest I foresaw was confirmed a year later by the data delivered at the 7 th WPK Congress), and buy a lot of publications by the Foreign Languages Publishing House; at the Pyongyang Amusement Park, with my guides and the comrade girl responsible for the park, we sang immortal DPRK songs like Song of General Kim Il Sung, Song of General Kim Jong Il, Shining Moon of My Motherland and Let Us Defend the Headquarters of Revolution. I will never forget those days. Though if it may seem an exhotic idea, the Songun idea of General Kim Jong Il assumes a universal character, especially in these days in which the imperialist reactionary forces are striving with all their forces to unleash a World War III, which would very likely become a nuclear war in a short span of time. As great Comrade Kim Jong Un put it: «Songun, a new term in our era, was coined to reflect the unshakeable faith, willpower and great fortitude of Comrade Kim Jong Il who, taking full responsibility for the destiny and future of the country and people amid the long-drawn-out, sharp confrontation with an imperialist power, solved all problems in our own way and in conformity with the demands and interests of our people and nation. Thanks to the idea of the Songun revolution, a great idea of Comrade Kim Jong Il, we have been able to defend the dignity of the country, the independence of the people and the gains of socialism with credit and open the way for the prosperity of the country and the rosy future of the nation by our own strength, that is, by force of arms.» 2 The respected Marshal also taught: «If the masses are to carve out their destiny and accomplish the cause of socialism amid a sharp confrontation with the imperialists and the constant threat of war, they must, before anything else, firmly hold up and strengthen the arms of revolution. It is a serious lesson taught by the history of the world socialist movement that when the arms of revolution are weak or waver, they can neither defend the destiny of the masses nor socialism.»
The validity of these words has been proved time and again in present day world's history. We all know the cases of Yugoslavia, Iraq and Libya, but they're not the only ones: many countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America, which used to uphold their independence and build a new society, were dragged backwards by force because of an imperialist aggression or violent overthrowing by stooges of imperialism, as, for instance, in Chile and Grenada during last century. The Sandinist revolutionary forces in Nicaragua needed 25 years since their overthrowing by US imperialism to stage their comeback and put the country again on the road of sovereignty and social progress; Syria is slowly beginning its reconstruction, though the war provoked by foreign interference in 2011 is not yet over, and the same can be said, more or less, for Afghanistan; other countries, such as Algeria, Sudan and Zimbabwe, faced turmoils and social instabilities due to Western agents and lackeys who tried to subjugate again those peoples. Even such socialist countries as China and Cuba could not avoid problems of the same kind. All around the world, it is only the DPRK which can boost a complete social stability and a peaceful national environment for its political, economic and social construction. Its “secrets” are essentially two: the single-minded unity among the leader, the party and the masses on the basis of the soundest and strictest ideological education on the internal front, and the building of the military forces and nuclear deterrent on the external one. These two pillars firmly assure that the Korean people will never follow the tragic path of the people in the former USSR and the Eastern European countries, who let themselves be fooled by the “soft power” of Western imperialism, nor the terrible fate of those people such as the Yugoslavian, Iraqi and Libyan ones, who had to suf er inhumane bombings and pillage because they did not have a reliable armed forces to lean on, or, worse still, were expecting some kind of aidfrom outside. The DPRK, imperialists should always remember, is a full-fledged military and nuclear power possessed of ultramodern weapons such as BRBMs, IRBMs, ICBMs, hypersonic missiles, tactical weapons, giant rocket launchers, railway-launched rockets and A and H Bombs. Thanks to its surface-to-air missiles Ponghae-5, the DPRK can easily shoot down enemy airplanes even outside its air space. The history of the USS Pueblo, the EC-121 and OH-58 Kiowa helicopters and the battles of Yeonpyong, among others, should have taught the hostile forces that it is no smart idea to mess with the DPRK! Our task today is very dif icult but necessary and glorious: the DPRK constitutes a shining example and, as the beacon light of socialism in the 21 st century, it is showing us the path ahead to transform our societies and ourselves. This e-seminar, co-hosted by the UK and Greek branches of the KFA, is very important in that it takes place at a time in which the world is at a crossroad between slavery and war and independence and peace. We can easily foresee what is in store for us, should we take the first road. Because it would be just what we lived until now, but incomparably worsened. To make an example, appalling memories are brought to the minds of the Greek and Italian people at the sole mentioning of the infamous name of Mario Draghi. But he, though a brutal tyrant who starved to death tens of thousands of Greek children and left other thousands of Italian working people jobless and emarginated, is only one of the small clique of imperialist bourgeois ruling in the West. Only by assimilating the great truth of Kimilsungism-Kimjongilism and uniting ourselves on its basis, shall we be able to overthrow them, establish socialism and build new societies all around Europe and the world.
