On this special day, the day of Songun, I would like to share one or two thoughts with you. Nothing of what I will say will be news to you. Still I think it is important to put thought into the written form. I view Songun as the second pillar of Kimilsungism-Kimjongilism. The first pillar is Juche of course. Korea always did its best to stand on its own two feet. To keep independence from foreign powers, yet never hostile. Securing this independence by force if necessary and only then, became vital to the prosperity of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. After the collapse of the Eastern Block even more so. A potential partner was gone practically overnight.
Upholding the Korean People's Army as an army of the People and the ruling class indeed helped maintain popular unity and strength. Also the nuclear weapons program proved again and again that People's Korea is capable of withstanding imperialist aggression. The program secures peace on the Korean peninsula. In conclusion: Songun enables the people of Korea to construct socialism with korean characteristics. Progress is inevitable. The people of Korea can expect a bright future under socialism. As we study Juche, we must understand and uphold Songun as well, knowing that it was designed for korean characteristics. But we can learn from it and develop our styles of socialism with the philosophy in mind.
