For Democratization of Society
On June 28, the Association for Supporting Prisoners of Conscience of the Family Movement for Realizing Democracy called the 1177th Thursday rally in Seoul to strongly demand release of all conscientious prisoners and abolition of the National Security Law.
As long as the NSL is enforced, the issue of human rights abuse and acquittal of conscientious prisoners are impossible and innocent people including former member of the Unified Progressive Party Lee Seok-gi are behind the bars, they sharply criticized.
Now that inter-Korean relations are improving all conscientious prisoners detained the past should be released and reinstated, they stressed.
They chanted slogans in demand of acquittal of conscientious prisoners, while strongly demanding repeal of the NSL.
On the same day, a civic organization held a news conference in front of the Supreme Court to strongly demand strict investigation into Lee Seok-gi plot and reinstatement of the victims of the case.
The victims of “case of the UPP dissolution” are confined in prison when the Park Geun-hye regime was retired, they noted, and called for joining hands to prevent the recurrence of such case.
They declared that they will stage a sit-in demonstration, strongly demanding thoroughgoing investigation into the “case of the UPP dissolution” and reinstatement of the victims.
