Fundamental Principle for Independent Reunification

Fundamental Principle for Independent Reunification

46 years have elapsed since the publication of the historic July 4 Joint Statement.
At the initiative proposition of and under the guidance of President Kim Il Sung, the high-level political talk between the north and the south of Korea was held in Pyongyang in May 1972 for the time in the history of national division.
In order to reunify the country, it is necessary to establish the fundamental principles correctly, which can provide the basis for the solution of the reunification question. This is most important. Only when there are fundamental principles agreed upon by the north and the south, can the two sides make joint efforts for reunification and successfully solve all problems concerning it, the President clarified his grand plan for reunification when he had conversations with the south Korean delegate to the talk who had on a visit to Pyongyang.
It was a just principle of national reunification that the question of Korea’s reunification should on all accounts be settled independently without foreign interference and peacefully on the principle of promoting great national unity.
Thanks to the energetic leadership of the President, the north and the south of Korea on July 4 solemnly proclaimed the Joint Statement whose keynote is the three principles of independence, peaceful reunification and great national unity.
The adoption of the Joint Statement was a precious fruition of the President’s ardent patriotism, indefatigable efforts and selfless devotion.
At that time, broad segments of south Korean people warmly hailed the Joint Statement, describing it as “The dawn of reunification”, “A giant step toward independent reunification”, “A new historic turning point in putting an end to tragedy of national division and hastening the cause of national reunification”.
The publication of the Joint Statement encouraged the Korean nation with the hope and optimism of national reunification.
Leader Kim Jong Il, who regarded the implementation of the President’s behests for national reunification as the most important mission, defined the three principles of national reunification, the 10-point program for the great unity of the whole nation and the proposal for founding a Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo set forth by the President as the three charters for national reunification.
He arranged inter-Korean meetings to declare the June 15 Joint declaration and the October 4 Declaration thus a new era of independent reunification advancing on the strength of by the Korean nation itself was opened.
Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un, who succeeds noble intention of the preceding leaders, leads the van of movement for national reunification.
Korea’s reunification desired by the preceding leaders will surely come true as the preceding leaders laid a sure guarantee for national reunification and it is led by the Supreme Leader.
