On the 27th of July, the people of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea(DPRK) and the revolutionary people of the world will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the victory in the Fatherland Liberation War against the US imperialist aggressors, the sworn enemy of not only the Korean people but the entire world progressive and peace-loving people. July 27th is regarded as ‘Victory over America ‘ day, the second liberation day of the DPRK, the first being August 15th when Korea was liberated from Japanese imperialist colonial rule. As respected Marshal KIM JONG UN said "Our July 27 is the second Day of Liberation when our people defended with honour their country's dignity and sovereignty from the brigandish aggression by the U.S. imperialists, and also the day of proud victors that put the U.S. imperialists, who were recklessly attempting to gain hegemony in the world and enslave it, on a downhill march towards ruin”
Although 70 years have now passed since US General Mark Clark soberly admitted that “In carrying out the instructions of my government, I gained the unenviable distinction of being the first United States commander in history to sign an armistice without victory." July 27th shines brightly as it was a victory of a small country over a big country, a victory of a former colony over an imperialist power, the United States. The Fatherland Liberation War shattered all kinds of illusions such as illusions about the so-called ‘humane’ nature of US imperialism but it also disproved the myth that only big powers could defeat US imperialism. As President KIM IL SUNG wrote a decade after the Fatherland Liberation War “Even small countries can defeat big enemy, once they establish Juche, unite the masses of the people and valiantly rise in battle despite sacrifice. This is a very plain truth of our times which has been borne out by actual life”
The United States had been a victorious nation in World War and had emerged as the boss of world imperialism. The US imperialists had been victorious in dozens of wars that they had launched since the appearance of the US in the 18th century. The US imperialists had long coveted Korea and began to stretch their tentacles of aggression to Korea in the 19th century when it sent the armed pirate ship the “General Sherman" into Korea.
When the Fatherland Liberation War was started on the 25th of June 1950 by the south Korean fascist puppets acting on the orders of the US imperialists, few expected the DPRK to win let alone even survive . There is no doubt that the Korean people's victory over the US imperialist aggressors some 70 years ago was a superhuman feat . The struggle between the young Democratic People's Republic of Korea(DPRK) and the US was an unequal one, this is of course an understatement. It was a real David and Goliath battle. The US was much bigger than the DPRK in terms of size and population. Moreover, the US war machine was backed by a massive industrial base and advanced technology. The DPRK had only been founded less than 2 years before the war began, in fact, some 21 months before but now had to face a titanic war with the giant of US imperialism, the chieftain of world imperialism.How could a small country like People's Korea fight against the US and its puppets and vassals? The answer was in the powerful revolutionary leadership of Marshal KIM IL SUNG , the Juche idea and the Songun idea as well as the heroic self-sacrificing spirit of the Korean people and the young Korean People's Army.
Marshal KIM IL SUNG turned the table on the arrogant Yankees and the south Korean puppets who had boasted that they would have " breakfast in Haeju, lunch in Pyongyang and dinner in Sinuiju'' (Haeju being a town in the far south of the DPRK and Sinuiju being a town on the Chinese border) but this did not happen, instead, the victorious KPA wiped out the south Korean puppet forces and liberated south Korea, Seoul was liberated on June 28th the third day of the war.Let us note that a certain big country has failed even after nearly 18 months to advance to the capital city of a neighbouring country under fascist rule, even though the neighbouring country had once been an integral republic of the country concerned.
The hated colonial fascist reactionary ruling machines were smashed and land was distributed to the peasants free of charge. Basically the DPRK carried out a successful operation for the ‘de-fascistation ‘ of south Korea.
The US started to heavily bomb all of Korea and drew into the war forces from some satellite countries. This did not stop the advance of the Juche-oriented Korean People's Army commanded by the great leader Marshal KIM IL SUNG. The KPA smashed the Yankees at Osan . Torpedo boats of the KPA Navy sank US cruisers and destroyers.
The great leader Marshal KIM IL SUNG personally commanded the Taejon liberation battle. Here the KPA, on its own and without outside help, faced the US 24th Army Division. The US 24th Division had been victorious in the Battle of Mindanao in the Philippines in the 2nd World War and its commander General Dean had been a US commander in Europe in World War Two. The U.S. 24th division was totally destroyed in the Taejon battle on July 20, which was the 20th day after its arrival in south Korea. General Dean, the commander of the Division, was captured by a young soldier of the Korean People’s Army. He was the first division commander of U.S. imperialist aggression forces to be taken prisoner in the Korean War. This was a great feat of the heroic Korean People's Army to have captured a Yankee general.
The US threw into the war unprecedented numbers of troops and amounts of materials. In fact, 73 million tons of war materials were used in the war .The war raged on until July 27th 1953 when the US kneeled down and signed the Armistice Agreement.
During the three-year-long Fatherland Liberation War, the U.S. imperialists lost over 1,567,000 men, including more than 405,000 of their own armed forces, and an enormous amount of combat equipment and war supplies, including over 12,200 aircraft, more than 560 warships and ships, over 3,200 tanks and armoured vehicles of different types, more than 13,350 trucks and 7,690 artillery pieces of various types. The loss suffered by the US imperialists was nearly 2.3 times greater than what they had suffered in the four years of the Pacific War during World War II. Even official US statistics showed during each of the three years of the Korean War they lost double the number of troops lost in each year of the Vietnam War. Later comrade KIM IL SUNG declared that “In this great struggle our people fought determinedly as one in mind under the correct leadership of the party and government and thereby withstood the harsh trials of war honourably and won a historic victory inflicting an ignominious defeat on US imperialism and its running dogs”.
The victory in the great Fatherland Liberation War was achieved due to the brilliant commanding art of President KIM IL SUNG and his Juche-based tactics. Moreover, the Korean people and army had fought in the spirit of self-reliance and had united around their supreme commander Generalissimo KIM IL SUNG and the great Workers Party of Korea.
July 27th shines today as a great victory of a revolutionary people guided by the Juche idea!
