Songun Day of Korea

The DPRK significantly celebrates August 25 as Songun Day.

Leader Kim Jong Il, eternal Chairman of the DPRK National Defense Commission said that he started his Songun revolutionary leadership when giving field guidance to the Seoul Ryu Kyong Su 105^th Guards Tank Division of the Korean People’s Army on August 25, Juche 49(1960).

53 years ago he visited the division with President Kim Il Sung.

He said to soldiers of the unit:

“Defending the Party and the leader with our very lives is a decisive guarantee of victory of our revolution. It is the main mission of the People’s Army and the kernel of glorious tradition of its struggle.”

That day he said to officials:

“Looking around People’s Army units in company with President Kim Il Sung, I will learn about the real state of the army as a whole and pay deep attention to completing the army’s preparations for fighting.

If a country is to be strong, it should have a strong army. I will, in the future, make our country strong in military affairs so that no enemy can pounce upon it.”

The might of the Korean People’s Army today is associated with the event of that day.

Along with the might of the Korean People’s Army, the DPRK has emerged as a strong military power.

In a speech at a banquet in celebration of the August 25, Marshal Kim Jong Un, supreme leader of the Party, state and army of Korea, said:

“August 25 is a historic day that would go down in the history of the building of our revolutionary armed forces and the history of our country.

Today we long for the great General all the more earnestly as we greet August 25 for the first time after losing him.

We hardly keep back our tears at the thought of him who underwent so much trial for the country and the people.

Only with a burning patriotic zeal he put his heart and soul into providing our unbreakable military strength and great unity of the army and people and thus elevated the dignity of our country on the highest phase in history, holding aloft the banner of Songun all his life.

His exploits for it will shine forever.”

Kim Jong Un renewed once again the firm determination to steadfastly and invariably keep to the path of Songun traversed by leader Kim Jong Il, arms in arms and shoulder to shoulder with officers and men of the People’s Army.

Greeting Songun Day, the Korean army and people are firmly determined to defend the safety of the country and the revolutionary achievements with the weapons of Songun more reliably and build a reunified thriving nation on this land under the leadership of Marshal Kim Jong Un.
