Social Benefits for Women in DPRK


Pyongyang, March 8 (KCNA) -- Women in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea are enjoying all kinds of social benefits given by the state.

The government and social cooperative organizations grant those women on a maternity leave wages, food and other shares, little different from what they receive on their jobs.

Maternity hospitals and other health care institutions take care of women's health before and after they give birth to babies, at public expense.

The state looks after babies and pre-school children at nurseries and kindergartens.

The DPRK Labor Law stipulates that woman employees are not allowed to work under vibrancy-riddled and cold-temperature conditions, carry heavy loads or work under water.

Women with three children under 13 ages do work less hours than others, while being paid as much as others.

There are woman counsel offices, nurseries, kindergartens and children's clinics at all factories and enterprises throughout the country.
