Japanese Crime of Destruction and Plunder
of Korean Cultural Assets in the Past (7)
The Japanese invasion of Korea (1592-1598) in the year of Imjin was also meant by a “type war” from their random plunder of the metal types associated with the creative wisdom and talent of the Korean nation to the extent that Japan was enlightened in the printing industry during the war.
The Korean nation invented the metal types first in the world, an epochal event in the cultural development of mankind, and used them widely. Thus, they displayed their wisdom and talent greatly contributing to the world publishing and printing industry.
The metal types were invented in the time of Koryo (918-1392).
The people of Koryo put efforts to the development of culture from long ago.
They developed the wooden type printing technique to meet the increasing demand on the books and based on this experience, made the metal types to apply them to printing.
The feudal Joson dynasty, too, cast hundreds of thousands of metal types several times.
They printed with these metal types the Chronicles of the Feudal Joson Dynasty and many other books. These metal types showing the excellence of Korean nation almost disappeared from the Korean peninsula because of the Japanese plunder during the Imjin Patriotic War. The cultural development of Korea was tremendously impeded.
