76 Years of Victory and Glory

February 8, 1948 is the day when the first military ranks of Korea’s regular revolutionary armed forces marched past President Kim Il Sung raising stormy cheers of “hurrah”. It is now 76 years since that historic day, and the heroic Korean People’s Army (KPA) has grown into an invincible elite revolutionary army that has inherited the traditions of the anti-Japanese guerrillas under the prominent guidance of the peerless great men.

Our army was only two years old during the grim Fatherland Liberation War when the U.S. and allied imperialist forces launched an armed invasion and exposed our newborn Republic to danger. However, it remained true to the Juche-based military idea and line, and operational plan of President Kim Il Sung. By displaying boundless loyalty, valor and patriotism, it dealt a decisive blow to the enemy’s numerical and technological advantage with its politico-ideological, strategic and tactical edge. Thus, it created an unprecedented legend of war victory and engraved this glory of the heroic KPA on its colors.

With their idea of giving priority to military affairs and outstanding leadership, President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il put primary efforts into strengthening military capabilities and developed the KPA into an invincible and powerful revolutionary armed force. Whenever the U.S. imperialists attempted to provoke a new war and drove the country towards a hair-trigger situation near the brink of war, the great leaders stoutly defended the sovereignty, dignity and safety of the country by smashing each and every move of the hostile forces with their exceptional military wisdom and ingenuity.

Chairman Kim Jong Il put forth the idea of modelling the entire army on Kimilsungism as the general objective of army-building and gave energetic guidance to ensure that the People’s Army assumes its natural appearance flawlessly as the army of the leader and the Party’s army in name and reality. He prepared the KPA as the main force and unshakable pillar of the revolution by raising it into an army strong in ideology and faith, fully embodying the spirit of devotedly defending the leader, ardent patriotism, and an invincible revolutionary army that is a match for a hundred.

Even when everything was scarce and the economic situation and people’s living conditions were harsh due to the imperialists’ escalating attempts to isolate and stifle our Republic, Chairman Kim Jong Il held on to the firm standpoint of giving priority to arms that we can live without sweets, but not without bullets. He further strengthened the KPA’s political and ideological might and developed our national defense industry into a self-reliant, modern and powerful one capable of producing up-to-date weapons and military equipment of our own style at will.

Under the wise leadership of President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il, the KPA was strengthened and developed into a Juche-type powerful revolutionary force and an invincible elite revolutionary army, thus laying a firm foundation for the victorious advance of the socialist cause and the prosperity of all generations to come.

Today, under the outstanding leadership of respected Comrade Kim Jong Un who has firm faith that tremendous national power is the guarantee to the victorious advance of the Juche revolutionary cause, our people are opening up a new era of overall prosperity by working miraculous changes and marvelous events one after another. At the forefront of this sacred struggle stands the KPA – an army that entrusts its destiny to the WPK and embodies strong idea and faith of devotedly defending the Party Central Committee, an invincible army equipped with full capabilities for carrying out an actual war.

With respected Comrade Kim Jong Un – another greatest-ever commander – in the leadership of our revolution, our revolutionary armed force will continue to firmly defend the national security and world peace with tremendous military and technological superiority and absolute power.
