I aim to cover three points in this speech , firstly the reactionary and puppet nature of the south Korean regime , secondly ,a bit about Yoon and thirdly ,the role of Britain in propping up the south Korean regime .
Some people have been known to quibble about the use of the word puppet to describe south Korea but that is plain and simple . South Korea is an artificial entity created by the bayonet of US imperialism.
Korea was liberated from Japanese imperialist rule on the 15th of August 1945 thanks to the efforts of the Korean People’s Revolutionary Army led commanded by President KIM IL SUNG the US played no part whatsoever in the liberation of Korea , their troops did not arrive in Korea until 3 weeks after liberation, indeed they were in no position to advance to Korea. There was also no need for them to go into south Korea as Korea had already been liberated. I would like to draw the audience's attention to one fact . When I first visited the DPRK in 1992 I went to the Korean Revolution Museum. There I saw a map of the anti-Japanese revolutionary armed struggle led by President Kim Il Sung . Some were surprised to see that this struggle had been waged not only in north Korea but in the south as well. Someone asked why wasn't a unified Korean government set up as there were progressive and revolutionary forces in the south as well. The guide replied “the US imperialists did terrible things , they divided Korea.”
The US imperialists landed at the south Korean port of Inchon on the 8th of September 1945. One of their first actions was to shoot down workers who protested against their arrival . The US imperialists dissolved the people’s committees in south Korea that had been set up in all parts of Korea . They banned the Communist Party . For three years the US ruled south Korea through direct military rule, basically taking the place of the Japanese imperialists.
In order to camouflage their colonial rule in south Korea , the US imperialists created a puppet regime in 1948 . This was headed by Syngham Rhee ,who had stolen funds from the independence movement and was living a life of luxury in Hawaii with his Austrian born wife . An American writer Mark Gayn described Syngham Rhee as being ‘two centuries before fascism—a true Bourbon. “. So this was the kind of entity that the US created in south Korea ; more extreme than fascism and propped by US bayonets . Without dwelling on history too much , Rhee was responsible along with his American masters for igniting the Korean War in 1950 but was overthrown in a popular uprising in April 1960. All subsequent rulers of south Korea such as Park Chung Hee , Chun Do Hwan , Roh Tae Woo, Kim Yong Sam , Lee Myung Bak and Yoon have been total puppets of the US .
South Korea was and is a truly despotic fascist regime . Many massacres such as the Bodo League massacre ,Jeju island massacre and Kwangju massacre were carried out .there were numerous incidents of repression and fabricated cases such as the " case of the People's Revolutionary Party " , " the case of Revolutionary Party for Reunification " and " the case of the Strategic Liberation party of south Korea " to name just a few . In the second "People's Revolutionary party " in 1975, the Park Chung Hee fascist regime executed 8 leaders of the non-existent party. In south Korea there is the repressive National Security Law which prohibits communist ideology and support for the DPRK . Advocating support for the DPRK in the south can be punished by up to 7 years in jail.
South Korea is today occupied by 30,000 US troops . It pays for the privilege of being occupied by the US , only puppets and traitors to their country would agree to pay upkeep expenses to the tune of over $1 billion.Numerous shackling and aggressive agreements , pacts and treaties such as the ROK-US Mutual Defence Treaty of January 1950 , were concluded. South Korea became a forward military base of the US and a bullet shield. The armed forces of south Korea are still subject to wartime operational control of the US army.US troops in south Korea enjoy extra-territoriality and cannot be tried by south Korean courts for crimes they commit.Crimes committed by the US troops in south Korea include murder ,theft and rape.
The south Korean economy, which is praised by the mainstream media as a “ miracle" , is in fact dominated by the US , Japanese and other foreign capitals . South Korea has an external debt of $628.5 Billion.
It should also be noted that south Korea is culturally dominated by US and Japanese culture .Many signs and billboards in south Korea are in English. The awful K-pop music is a copy of American and Japanese music.
So what of Yoon , the puppet ruler who has today sneaked into Britain via Stansted Airport ? Yoon is the prosecutor general of south Korea and was involved in implementing the National Security Law . Yoon is a multi-millionaire with a net worth of $5 million . His party is misleadingly called the People Power Party . A title that may confuse some but in fact this is a far right , conservative and fascist party . It is the continuation of the former Liberty Korea Party which in turn is a continuation of the Grand National Party of south Korea . Basically the lineage of the so-called People Power Party in south Korea can be traced back to Park Chung Hee’s Democratic Republican Party and Syngham Rhee’s Liberal Party . Since 1948 apart from a few interludes the same party has ruled south Korea only using different names .Similarly the south Korean internal security apparatus has changed its title many times from the ‘Counter Intelligence Corps ‘ to ‘Korean Central Intelligence Agency or KCIA ‘ to the ‘Agency For Security Planning ‘ and finally the present ‘National Intelligence Service ‘
Yoon is profoundly anti-worker . He is trying to increase the working day in south Korea . Earlier this year some trade union leaders were arrested on charges of spying for the DPRK . Leaders of farmers and community organisations as well as those who study the Juche idea were also arrested.
Yoon’s visit is all about reinforcing British support for south Korea .In the 1940s when Korea was liberated from Japanese imperialist rule there was a chance for Britain to make a fresh start in developing relations with Korea . However , Britain failed to establish relations with the new People’s Korea , Korea of Juche led by President KIM IL SUNG but instead recognised the corrupt puppet fascist regime of Synghman Rhee . Worse still Britain fully backed the aggression of the United States against People’s Korea during the Korean War which claimed many Korean lives as well as the lives of British troops in order to pay for the cost of sending the troops to Korea prescription charges were increased.
Among the British forces sent to the Korean front was the Royal Ulster Rifles which had Suppressed the Irish people and committed many atrocities during the northern Ireland troubles. The British Army held back the reunification of Korea in the 1950s and also held back the reunification of Ireland
After the Korean War , Britain refused to recognise the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) , the only legitimate state on the Korean peninsula, for over 50 years not recognising the DPRK diplomatically until 2000 Instead they shovelled British aid into the fascist puppet regime in south Korea . The state owned British Leyland company assisted south Korea in setting up a motor industry.
Britain is still part of the discredited and ghost-like UN Command in south Korea which is just an instrument of US domination in south Korea.
Earlier this year in March British Royal Marines participated in the Ssangyong military exercise in Pohang of south Korea.
Opposing the visit of fascist Yoon to Britain is both an important part of the struggle for Korean reunification and to support the south Korean people in their struggle against fascist oppression .It is also part of the struggle to defend People’s Korea from US and south Korean puppet aggression !
Yoon, go home !
Down with the south Korean puppet regime !
Defend People’s Korea !
