The Fatherland Liberation War Martyrs Cemetery is at the foot of the scenic Mt. Sokbak in the capital city of Pyongyang.

It is a monumental structure built under the guidance of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the victory in the great Fatherland Liberation War.

Buried in the cemetery were the remains of heroes who sacrificed their lives to the sacred cause for defending the country including those produced during the great Fatherland Liberation War (1950--1953) in the 1950s.

The cemetery consists of a monument to proposition of the great leader Kim Il Sung, gateposts with the Memorial Tower for the Fallen Soldiers of the Korean People's Army in the centre, a monument to the poem dedicated to the heroic soldiers, wreath-laying stand "Soul of Heroes", group sculptures and tombs of martyrs.

The figures "1950" and "1953" meaning the period of the Fatherland Liberation War are seen on the huge granite gateposts depicting the flying flags of the Workers' Party of Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. In front of the gateposts are group sculptures representing mourners.

Past the gateposts are the monument to proposition of Kim Il Sung, the monument to the poem dedicated to the heroic soldiers and group sculptures.

And there is the Memorial Tower for the Fallen Soldiers of the Korean People's Army along with the wreath-laying stand with a rifle the soldiers of the People's Army did not lay down though dead and a military cap shining with the five-point star on the national flag covering a bier.

The tens-of-metre-high memorial tower represents a bayonet wrapped with the red flag, on which there is the Hero Medal carved in relief. It intensively shows the noble self-sacrificing spirit displayed by soldiers of the People's Army in the sacred war for defending the country and their will to annihilate the enemy and the Korean people's will to add eternal brilliance to the spirit and exploits of the great years.

Seen behind it are the tombs of the martyrs buried according to the order of date of their death.

Inscribed on the tombstones with stone pictures of the martyrs are their names, birthdays and deathdays. And the embossed Hero Medal is seen on each of the tombstones.

Many working people, youth and students visit the cemetery every day to make a pledge to carry forward the soul of victorious wartime generation.
