Beautiful Islets on the Taedong River

The Taedong River is 450.3 kilometres long and it is the fifth longest river in Korea.
With it as the basis, the "Taedonggang Culture" centring on Pyongyang came into being.
The "Taedonggang Culture" is one of the world's five cultures.
There are many beautiful islets on the Taedong River. When talking about them, the Korean people think first of the Ssuk, Yanggak and Rungna Islets.
Structures on the islets show different unique scenes, adding to their scenic beauty.
Ssuk Islet is on the Taedong River flowing between Rangnang District and Phyongchon District of Pyongyang City.
The comparatively narrow and long islet is also called an islet of science by the Korean people as there is the Sci-Tech Complex.
The Sci-Tech Complex looks like a large atomic structure symbolizing the world of science. It is a great temple of learning for all the people and a multi-functional hub of scientific and technological dissemination in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
Yanggak Islet occupies an area of 1.2 square kilometres. It looks like a sheep with two horns and hence the name. On the islet there are the Yanggakdo International Hotel, the Pyongyang International Cinema House and the Yanggakdo Football Stadium.
On the top of the hotel, one can overlook the beautiful Pyongyang.
Rungna Islet was built into a wonderful cultural recreation resort for the people. Weeping willows resemble rolls of silk spread on the crystal-clear water of the Taedong River, presenting a fantastic view. Hence the name--Rungna Islet--from olden times.
On the islet there are the Rungna People's Pleasure Ground with a wading pool, amusement park, 4D Simulation Cinema and mini-golf course and the Rungna People's Sports Park equipped with all kinds of mass sports facilities including football field, basketball, volleyball, tennis and badminton courts, and field hockey area. So, the islet is full of the people's laughter all the time.
In addition, there are the 150,000-capacity May Day Stadium reminiscent of a magnolia blossom and the Pyongyang International Football School playing a pivotal role in the football development of the country.
Foreign visitors to Pyongyang as well as the Korean people like to visit those islets on the Taedong River.
