Pyongyang, May 2 (KCNA) -- The finals of the "Sports Contest of Workers of Metallurgical Industrial Sector -2023" took place at the Kim Il Sung Stadium to mark the May Day, the international holiday of the working people throughout the world.
Kim Tok Hun, member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK), vice-president of the State Affairs Commission of the DPRK and premier of the Cabinet, and senior officials of the Party, government and military watched the games together with labour innovators in the field of metallurgical industry and working people in Pyongyang City.
The sports contest of workers in the field of metallurgical industry which began from April 23 was held on a knock-out basis, divided into eastern and western areas.
The Chollima Steel Complex and the Kim Chaek Iron and Steel Complex advanced into the final of football match and the Hwanghae Iron and Steel Complex and the Songjin Steel Complex team into final of the tug of war match.
First, there was a football final match between the Chollima Steel Complex and the Kim Chaek Iron and Steel Complex.
The atmosphere of the stadium was revved up as the players played a good match while displaying staunch fighting spirit, the characteristic of the strong and passionate working class, and the spectators cheered them on with sweat in their hands.
In the nail-biting match, the Chollima Steel Complex team beat the Kim Chaek Iron and Steel Complex team by 2:0.
Then, there was a tug of war final between the Hwanghae Iron and Steel Complex and the Songjin Steel Complex.
In the match the Hwanghae Iron and Steel Complex team beat its rival by 2:0.
A prize-giving ceremony was held amid the warm applause of the spectators.
The "Sports Contest of Workers of Metallurgical Industrial Sector-2023" encouraged the soaring spirit of the steel workers who are taking the charge of country's leading industry and gave joy of holiday to the working people who are creating fresh innovations in the struggle to attain the 12 major goals for national economic development. -0-
