The British Group for the Study of the Juche, Korean Friendship Association UK and Association for the Study of Songun Politics UK held an online seminar on the 12th of February at 1500 hours GMT to mark the 80th anniversary of the birth of the great leader comrade KIM JONG IL .
Participating in the online seminar were members of the KFA UK and British Group for the Study of the Juche Idea from London , Stoke On Trent , West of England and Glasgow . Also joining the meeting were international guests from the USA , Nepal , Bangladesh , Switzerland and Ireland .
Messages were received from the Brazilian Centre for the Study of Songun Politics , from KFA Greece and from the deputy director general of European Regional Society for the Study of the Juche Idea (ERSSJI ) and deputy chairman of the KIM IL SUNG KIM JONG IL Foundation .
At the start of the meeting an English language version of ‘ The Song of General KIM JONG IL ‘ was played .
Dr Dermot Hudson the Chairman of the British Group for the Study of the Juche Idea and Chairman of KFA UK introduced the meeting saying the birth anniversary of Chairman KIM JONG IL is celebrated as the Day of the Shining Star .
The message from Brazil was read out , it said in part “Comrade Kim Jong Il is an example of a revolutionary devoted to his homeland, his people and loyal to the true ideology of the popular masses. He has always followed the President Kim Il Sung, and at the time socialism was on the decline across the world in the 1990s, he courageously raised the red flag high in defending Korea from the relentless attacks of enemies and proving that the socialism was not defeated”
The message from George Hadjipateras , KFA Greece stressed that ‘ During difficult times , comrade KIM JONG IL worked ceaselessly for the Korean people and turned the DPRK into a mighty socialist power that defended socialism and fought for global independence . Despite sanctions imposed on the DPRK by imperialist forces , comrade Kim Jong il still managed to make his people more prosperous and happy . The people loved the Dear Leader and the Dear Leader loved the people”
The message from Keith Bennett deputy director of the ERSSJI pointed out that “The great leader Comrade KIM JONG IL is a true model and paragon of the complete revolutionary leader. A brilliant theoretician, nobody did more than him to stand against the modern revisionists, cowards, renegades and traitors to socialism, to defend the socialist fortress, and to encourage the peoples fighting for national liberation, the building of a new society and for socialism ‘
In one of the three keynote speeches , comrade Shaun Pickford , Chairman of Staffordshire KFA UK and secretary general of the British Group for the Study of the Juche Idea spoke about the work ‘ Let Us March Forward Dynamically Along the Road of Socialism and Communism Under the Unfurled Banner of the Anti-imperialist Struggle “which had been authored by comrade KIM JONG IL and published in 1987 . Comrade Pickford gave a profound and informative analysis of the work. He said that comrade KIM JONG IL had made a very deep analysis of modern capitalism and imperialism , in particular it took note of changes in the class and social structure of contemporary capitalism . The work exposed the decadent and corrupt nature of capitalism . Comrade Pickford concluded that the work showed the way ahead unlike the modern revisionists and the post-modernist Left .
Alan Bolon head of KFA UK West of England and editor of ‘People’s Korea Today ‘ in his speech said in part ‘ Today, when a great Korean revolution continues and successfully transforms People's Korea to be Asian Socialist's Superpower, the 'Day of the Shining Star' is the most important public holiday in DPRK. A public holiday - when happy popular masses - shows their happiness of a rich life and full of the most intellectual and material values of life - flowing from socialist prosperity. It is the day, with plenty of festivals and ceremonies, which shows the true happiness and joy of DPRK citizens.
The star, this shining star on the element of humanity, shining love for man and concern for his living conditions and man's needs is just Eternal Leader Kim Jong Il. He will remain for us as a great example of a true leader and big warm hearted commander. Commander, endowed with great wisdom and skills that served the people to whom he devoted his entire admirable life”
Dr Dermot Hudson in his keynote speech stressed that “Comrade KIM JONG IL lived a very simple and humble life . As a student he participated in the construction of Pyongyang. He also worked at a textile machinery factory at lathe no 26. Thus comrade KIM JONG IL was a true people's leader , always with the people sharing both hardship and joy with them. Often comrade KIM JONG IL did not celebrate his own birthday. During his lifetime no statue of comrade KIM JONG IL was built .He took simple meals in his car . He visited 14 290 units across the country,travelling more than 669 847 km, about 17 times as long as the circumference of the earth.

A representative of KFAUSA read out a message from KFAUSA , the Juche Idea Study Group of the USA and Association for the Study of Songun Politics of America,
A contribution from Martin Lotscher of KFA Switzerland was read out .
An anti-imperialist and supporter of the DPRK from Ireland made a short intervention ,
The documentary ‘ Paektusan Secret Camp ‘ and an excerpt from
“The Brilliant History of Great Leadership’ were shown .
A congratulatory message to respected Marshal KIM JONG UN was adopted .
Everyone said the meeting was good and comrade Shaun Pickford thanked comrade Dr Dermot Hudson for organising the meeting .
