The great leader comrade KIM JONG IL who passed away 10 years ago on the 17th of December was a man of great and diverse talents who is remembered for many things . To me, a Juche idea follower and a believer in socialism and communism , his greatest achievement was his defence of socialism and continually upholding the great Juche idea .
When modern revisionism appeared in the early 1960s he strongly opposed it, writing a number of works attacking the reactionary nature of modern revisionism. Comrade KIM JONG IL visited Albanian students studying at KIM IL SUNG university in 1962 on the occasion of the national day of Albania as a gesture of solidarity with socialist Albania which was under great pressure from modern revisionism and great power chauvinism .
In the middle of the 60s when anti-Party counter-revolutionary factionalists raised their head within the Workers Party of Korea he took part in the struggle against them and established the monolithic ideological system .
In the late 1970s the international situation was very complicated as the US imperialists put pressure on the socialist countries on the pretext of ‘human rights ‘ , the revisionists preached detente and ‘peaceful co-existence ‘ , new style opportunists called for an end to the dictatorship of the proletariat jabbering about pluralism etc and strange and peculiar trends appeared in one country . Comrade KIM JONG Il put forward the militant slogan ‘ Let Us Our Own Way ‘ saying that ‘The situation we are in today demands that we display to a high degree the revolutionary spirit of self-reliance. At present no country is willing to help another nor is any country in a position to help another, even should she want to".
At the end of the 1980s and early 1990s heart rending events occurred. Due to modern revisionism and the ideological and cultural infiltration of imperialism , socialist countries in Eastern Europe collapsed one after the other and even socialism in the once mighty USSR was frustrated . The reactionaries cheered and proclaimed ‘the end of history . A new style of anti-communism appeared , much more toxic and pernicious than the earlier style of anti-communism . Communist and Workers Parties disappeared or were decimated . However , one leader was not disheartened or deterred , it was comrade KIM JONG IL who wrote excellent works such as ‘Socialism is A Science ‘ and ‘Abuses of Socialism Are Intolerable ‘ which defended socialism and its scientific validity pointing out that ‘ The crumbling of socialism in various countries does not mean the failure of socialism as science but the bankruptcy of opportunism which has corrupted socialism. Although socialism is temporarily experiencing a heartrending setback because of opportunism, it will without fail be revived and win ultimate victory for its scientific accuracy and truth".
This dealt a blow to the imperialists and the revisionists . Soon the imperialists turned their attention to undermining and stifling People’s Korea which had emerged as the bastion of socialism in the world .
The DPRK faced manifold challenges and difficulties such as the collapse of the world socialist market , the sanctions and blockades of the imperialists and after the mid 1990s a number of natural disasters . Then in 1994 the great leader President KIM IL SUNG passed away very suddenly indeed . The imperialists thought they had a chance , an opportunity to trick the DPRK into ‘reform’ and ‘opening up’ and for the DPRK to take down the militant socialist red flag of Juche . They tried to put pressure on the DPRK through diplomatic channels and third parties . However the foolish imperialists reckoned without the great leader comrade KIM JONG IL who declared ‘ Expect No Change From Me ‘. This was a thunderbolt to the meanspirited and cruel imperialists.
Comrade KIM JONG IL held the Red Flag of Juche higher , he supplemented the Juche Idea with Songun politics . He led the
‘Arduous march ‘ and ‘forced march ‘of the Korean people to victory thwarting the movers of the imperialists .
Today the Red flag of Juche that was raised higher by comrade KIM JONG IL , towers high in People’s Korea under the leadership of dear respected Marshal KIM JONG UN .
