The bosses of Japanese invader army like Hideie combed the government offices and the libraries of ryangban (aristocrats) under the instigation of the plunderers disguised as monks to plunder valuable books.

A henchman of Hideyoshi plundered the Koryodaejanggyong and many books related with mathematics printed with metal types in Korea in 15th century. Among them was a book named Sanphan. This book initiated the active dissemination of abacus and the publication of the books relating to abacus in Japan. Japanese translated and disseminated the mathematical books plundered from Korea to learn mathematics, which laid the basis of the development of mathematics in Japan.

Besides, Japan plundered Uibangryuchwi, one of three Koryo medical classics in Korea.

Owning the books plundered from Korea is said to have been a great source of pride in Japan.

The books taken from Korea were copied, translated and disseminated widely mainly in Edo government time to make a great “contribution” to the academic development at the time in Japan.
