DPRK- Madagascar Relations

One African country that the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea enjoyed warm and fraternal relations with was the Democratic Republic of Madagascar during the period of President Didier ‘ The Red Admiral ‘ Ratsiraka. The Democratic Republic of Madagascar was a little known African socialist country which did not receive much solidarity (if any at all ) from the British and European Left .

In 1975 a group of progressive military officers including a young naval captain Didier Ratisraka carried out a revolution and established a socialist regime in the African island . They carried out land reform and nationalisation .

President Ratsiraka established close relations with the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea . He visited the DPRK 5 times from 1976 to 1990 and met President KIM IL SUNG . President Ratsiraka was among those heads of state that visited the DPRK many times .

The Democratic Republic of Madagascar  took inspiration from the Juche Idea and studied it. In September 1976 the government of the Democratic Republic of Madagascar hosted the International Scientific Seminar on the Juche Idea .

Some sources claim that the DPRK gave military assistance to the Democratic Republic of Madagascar . The DPRK did build the Presidential Palace of Iavoloha.
