Desirable Passage

Desirable Passage

South Korean mass media including Jaju Sibo and Tongil News reported the south Korean National Assembly passed through amendment of bill on inter-Korean relations.

The opposition parties including the People’s Power Party made filibuster to block the passage of the bill, while claiming “the bill made by north Korea” and “violation of freedom expression”. The ruling Democratic Party which holds majority of seats in the parliament passed through the bill, the media said.

The amendment stipulates those who scatter leaflets against north Korea or violate inter-Korean agreement face up to three years imprisonment or a fine of up to 30 million won.

The amendment of the bill is a step to safeguard resident living near the military demarcation line and it should be enforced at an earlier date, the media commented.

The south Korean people from all walks of life said that the passage of amended bill is to ensure security of the residents and peace of the Korean Peninsula. They demanded the suspension of scattering leaflets against north Korea, the media noted.

The opposition parties come under public criticism for their demand of withdrawal of the bill, the media described.
