Formal Letter of Protest to the UK Foreign and Commonwealth office from UK KFA to protest against the sanctions ( UK KFA members might wish to use this a template for letters to Members of Parliament )
Dear Sir or Madam,
On behalf of the UK Korean Friendship Association I wish to make a formal protest concerning the imposition of sanctions against the independent and sovereign Democratic People's Republic of Korea by the British government .
I refer to the sanctions under the 'new global human rights regime' against the Ministry of People's Security and Ministry of State Security of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea which were announced on Monday 6th of July by the Foreign Secretary.
The Ministry of People's Security actually also includes the Fire Brigade in the DPRK as well as the civil police ( including the traffic police in Pyongyang ) .
. The statement announcing the sanctions refers to 'forced labour ' and 'gulags';This is a false and nonsensical allegation as there are no 'gulags 'in the DPRK , gulag being a Russian term which refers to correctional labour camps that existed for a period in the former USSR . We reject the allegation that there are such entities in People's Korea .
Moreover our understanding is that the UK itself has prison labour so how can the UK possibly object to penal labour in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea ? It does not make sense.
It is also pertinent to ask why the British government has not imposed sanctions on the US and the US police for the killing of Mr George Floyd?
It is truly deplorable that instead of concentrating on developing good relations with the DPRK on the basis of independence , mutual benefit and co-operation , the British government is obsessed with imposing sanctions on People's Korea one after the other . Britain's withdrawal from the European Union(EU) could have heralded a new era in Britain-DPRK relations with Britain tearing up EU sanctions against the DPRK and negotiating new trade deals with the DPRK.
We urge that the British government ends its shameful anti-DPRK campaign and revokes the latest sanctions .
We believe that the UK should develop relations of friendship and co-operation with the DPRK which is in the interest of both peoples.
yours faithfully
(Dr) Dermot Hudson
