August 25th is known in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea as the Day of Songun for it was on August 25th 1960, some 58 years ago , that the great leader comrade KIM JONG ILstarted his Songun(army-centred ) revolutionary leadership by giving on the spot guidance to the historic Seoul Ryu Kyong Su no 105th Tank Division of the Korean People's Army . This unit of the Korean People's Army (KPA) was no ordinary KPA unit but it was the unit steeped in revolutionary history as it had been first to enter into Seoul during the Fatherland Liberation War in 1950, thus performing the most distinguished exploits in liberating Seoul from American imperialist colonial rule. The unit was named after the famous anti-Japanese revolutionary fighter comrade Ryu Kyong Su.
Comrade KIM JONG IL visited Seoul Ryu Kyong Su no 105th Tank Division of the KPA together with the great leader comrade KIM IL SUNG . At the time when comrade KIM JONG IL visited the unit the international situation was very tense and complex indeed . The US imperialists were stepping up their war provocations intensively , worse still the unity of the international communist movement was being undermined by the emergence of modern revisionism which preached unprincipled compromise and capitulation to imperialism . Later the modern revisionists in certain socialist country even tried to unilaterally disarm ,melting down tanks and guns . The Democratic People's Republic of Korea which faced incessant provocations and pressure from the US imperialists could not do such a thing . Instead they followed the road of building up powerful Juche-based ,self-reliant armed forces and made the KPA the main force of the revolution.
From the year 1960 to 2011 the great leader comrade KIM JONG IL carried out the Songun revolutionary leadership without let up or stopping or marking time on the way . He visited 5,200 military units regardless of the weather , sometimes travelling up difficult and steep mountain roads or riding the raging waves to visit KPA units on far-flung islands . Comrade KIM JONG IL even visited Panmunjom where the front-line between imperialism and socialism is .
The Korean People's Army smashed the aggressive provocations of the US imperialists such as the "Pueblo Incident " in 1968, the EC121 Incident in 1969, the Panmunjom Incident of 1976 , the
helicopter shoot-down incident in 1994 and the first and second nuclear crisis .
The KPA became an army both strong in technique and ideology . A true "match for a hundred " revolutionary armed force of Songun that is capable of facing down any aggressor. Thanks to the Songun revolutionary leadership of the great leader comrade KIM JONG IL the DPRK became a nuclear power . Now the DPRK is able to sit down and negotiate with any country it pleases on equal terms.
Thus the achievements of the Songun revolutionary leadership of the great leader comrade KIM JONG IL are great and are rightfully celebrated as the Day of Songun.
