Comrades in
just over two weeks from now, on the 9th of September, it will be
the 70th anniversary of the foundation of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea
by the great leader comrade KIM IL SUNG .
I do not
intend to give a detailed historical account of the DPRK’s foundation and its
subsequent development, instead I will refer you to study many of the books and published by
the DPRK and the speeches of the leaders of the DPRK which explain this better than I can . Instead
tonight I will concentrate on several themes.
Firstly , the DPRK is the only legitimate
state of the Korean people that
inherited the traditions of the anti-Japanese armed struggle whereas the south
Korean regime was an illegal puppet regime . Korea had been liberated in 1945
from Japanese rule , in the north people’s committees were set up and a new
government was set up under the
leadership of comrade KIM IL SUNG the hero of the anti-Japanese armed struggle
who had fought the Japanese imperialists for 15 long years . When the formation
of a unified state on the Korean peninsula with a single central government became
a pressing need comrade KIM IL SUNG
called a conference of politicians and activists from both the north and south of Korea and
they decided to establish a Democratic People’s Republic of Korea . In August
1948 elections were held , in the north 99 per cent voted in them , in the
south the elections held to be held secretly because of the harsh repression of
the US imperialists 77 per cent of
people voted .Thus the DPRK came into being representing people in both the
north and south Korea, not just the north .

The Juche character is
the nature of socialism, and independence in politics, self-sufficiency in the
economy and self-reliance in national defence are the road to achieving the
eternal victory and prosperity of our style of socialism. Independent politics
makes it possible to formulate lines and policies in keeping with the
fundamental principles of the revolution and the people’s demand for and
interests in independence and consistently implement them however difficult and
complicated the situation may be, so as to lead the revolution and construction
to victory, and to exercise complete sovereignty and equal rights in the
external relations so as to exalt the dignity and might of the country.
All the
DPRK’s policies are totally independent and framed to meet the interests of the
Korean people rather than outside forces . The DPRK avoided both the extremes of
modern revisionism and ultra-leftism which had emerged in the international
communist movement and the socialist camp in the 1960s . Again I would refer
readers to several works on this subject.
Thirdly, the DPRK is a people’s country which everything serves the people and
people-orientated policies are implemented such as free medical care , free
education and as the total abolition of taxation. As Chairman KIM JONG IL
stated “Our Republic is a genuine people’s country, a people-centered socialist
State that upholds the masses of the people as the masters of the State and
society, and serves them”
In the
DPRK many organisations and institutions
are named after the people such as the
People’s Army , people’s hospitals , etc.
Fourthly ,
the DPRK is based on single hearted unity
of the masses around the party and the leader and the Juche idea. The
DPRK is based on the socialist ownership of the means of production so there is
no social inequality . The DPRK is based on the Juche Idea , the philosophical principle of
which is that man is the master . Thus because of the socialist ownership of
the means of production which is both underpinned and enhanced by the Juche
Idea , people in the DPRK have a high sense of ‘taking ownership’ of
‘stakeholding’ which does not exist in any capitalist country. Moreover
politics in the DPRK are based on benevolence and trust , the supreme principle
of the party and the state is to improve living standards.
The DPRK is
the first socialist state to celebrate the 70th anniversary of its
foundation . The DPRK has proved a most durable and invincible socialist state
because it is based on the above factors namely, independence,
people-orientated policies and single heartedly unity. Over the past 70 year
the DPRK has travelled the road of independence
and blazed a trail of victory and glory under the leadership of the
great leader comrade KIM IL SUNG , Chairman
KIM JONG IL
and dear respected Marshal KIM JONG UN !
