Statement from the Korean National Peace Committee on the July 4th Joint Statement

Today is 46th anniversary of the publication of the three principles of Independence, Peaceful reunification and Great national unity for national reunification in the high level political talk between the north and the south for the first time since the division of Korea.
Thanks to the publication of the July 4th north-south Joint Statement which was a fresh starting point of reconciliation, unity and reunification from mistrust and confrontation, the Korean people could holdfast the most correct guideline for achieving country’s independent reunification and advance towards the victory of the nation-wide reunification movement frustrating all sorts of obstructive maneuvers of separatists in and abroad.
Even today, whole Koreans remember the historical event on July 4th, 1972 when the north and south solemnly declared the Joint Statement which clarifies the three-principle of independence, peaceful reunification and great national unity as its core.
On that day, the Joint Statement which called for achieving the national reunification in a independent way without any foreign interference, in a peaceful way without any use of armed forces and by achieving great national unity transcending the differences in thoughts, ideas and systems, was broadcasted from coast to coast and whole Korean nation heartily welcomed and celebrated with emotions.
Since then, the June 15th Joint Declaration and October 4th Declaration between the north and the south were announced through historical inter-Korean Summit meetings in 2000 and 2007. These inter-Korean declarations are the embodiment, succession and practical development of the three principles for national reunification and prove the invariable truth and great vitality of the July 4 north-south Joint Statement.
Today, the cause of Korean reunification is entering a new historical turning point under the wise leadership of the comrade Kim Jong Un, Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the DPRK.
Chairman Kim Jong Un, fully determined to achieve the national reunification- the lifelong will and behests of the Great Leader Kim Il Sung and Great Leader Kim Jong Il, made great progress for the national reunification and peace on the Korean Peninsula through two times of historical inter-Korean Summit meetings and publication of Panmunjom Declaration on Peace, Prosperity and Reunification of the Korean Peninsula.
We, as ever before, will holdfast the three principles for national reunification and the north-south Joint Declarations and fulfill our mission and responsibility in improving inter-Korean relations and in achieving the independent national reunification in favor of the demands and interests of whole Korean nation.
On the occasion of the 46th anniversary of the publication of the historical north-south Joint Statement in 1972, we firmly believe that you, loving peace and justice, will extend sincere support and solidarity to the Korean people in their struggle for national reconciliation and unity and the peace on the Korean peninsula and in the region.
