STATEMENT OF THE STAFFORDSHIRE BRANCH OF THE KOREAN FRIENDSHIP ASSOCIATION "THE BBC, THE MOUTHPIECE OF WAR PROPAGANDA

When relations between the north and the south of Korea are developing, and the prospects of peace and reunification on the Korean peninsula are becoming a realistic possibility, the BBC's premier current affairs programme "Panorama" broadcast a piece of hysterical cold war propaganda on screen, The programme from beginning to the end, was a tissue of lies and fabrications
The programme which was shown under the title of "North Korea's Slave Gangs" on April 16th. In actuality, all forms of slavery and exploitation have been abolished in the DPRK. The Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea was indeed the first country to scrap all forms of taxation in 1974. DPRK citizens have been banned from working overseas due to the unjust sanctions imposed by the United Nations' Security Council. In the past DPRK citizens have worked in other countries, according to the mutual agreements. To say that the DPRK depends on hard currency gained from such ventures is totally ridiculous, as only 0.7 per of the workforce is engaged in such projects. In the DPRK all people receive free healthcare, education from the kindergarten to university level, free social housing and full employment.

The labourers featured during the programme were not authenticated as originating from the DPRK, as these persons could have come from any other Asian nation. The individuals involved were diehard Anti-DPRK elements and untrustworthy characters. A former diplomat who makes his living by slandering the DPRK, with unverified statements, whom no one treats seriously was used as one of the sources of information. Another was from mercenary academics connected with shadowy Anti-DPRK thinktanks centred within the Netherlands

The Staffordshire KFA Branch utterly denounces this crude attempt to poison the minds of the British public with xenophobia and wasting the licence fee on Anti-DPRK trash. Instead, the truth about the social system, the economy and culture of the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea should be promoted in Britain. Establishing understanding between the DPRK and the UK in diverse fields is the way to foster peace and not the spreading of jingoism!

KOREA IS ONE!
