UK KFA denounces FCO "travel advice " on DPRK -a de facto travel ban

           23rd of August 2017
The UK Korean Friendship Association  , the leading solidarity body with People's Korea in the UK , totally condemns the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office for trying to ban travel by British citizens to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea . As of today the following appeared on the FCO website "The Foreign and Commonwealth Office advises against all but essential travel to North Korea (DPRK) ...If you’re living in North Korea or decide to travel there independently, you should inform the British Embassy in Pyongyang about your travel plans before, or on arrival.". This is a) a de-facto ban on travel to the DPRK that stops short of the US travel ban on the DPRK b) by requiring people to inform the British embassy in advance means that the names of British visitors to the DPRK will be passed onto the British intelligence and security services such as Mi5 , MI6 and Special branch . Clearly an attempt to monitor those British citizens travelling to the DPRK which is very reminiscent of the Cold War era of the 1950s. UK KFA denounces this deeply unjust action by the UK FCO which is just parroting the line of the US . UK KFA will continue to send delegations to the DPRK!
