Actions took place across south Korea in protest against the deployment of THAAD, a war sphinx of the US.
As soon as it was reported on Feb. 27 that Lotte
group decided to offer its golf course in Seongju as the site for THAAD
deployment and made a contract on site exchange with the defense
ministry, the Seongju Committee for Struggle against THAAD Deployment
held a candlelight meeting outside the Seongju County Office that day.
They
chanted slogans “THAAD to the US and peace to this land”, “No THAAD,
Yes inter-Korean dialogue”, “No THAAD, but peace treaty” and “Farewell
THAAD, welcome peace”.
They
declared that they would check the deployment of THAAD by putting under
control the road leading to the Seongju Golf Course and disturbing the
freight transport.
The south Korean authorities agreed with the US to deploy THAAD in south Korea on March 1.
The
Seongju and Gimcheon Committees for Struggle against THAAD Deployment
held a rally with attendance of 300 inhabitants on March 1 at which they
noted they would check the deployment of THAAD through all possible
means and launch cultivators and tractors demonstration against it.
On
March 8, the Gimcheon Committee for Struggle against THAAD Deployment
staged a candlelight action at the plaza of Gimcheon railway station to
protest against the deployment of THAAD.
More than 2 000 Gimcheon inhabitants shouted slogans against the introduction of THAAD.
About 400 residents launched a protest near the Seongju Golf Course, the site for THAAD deployment.
The
south Korean opposition parties and people of various circles harden
their will to punish the south Korean authorities, deploring THAAD
deployment is harmful to security, economy and livelihood of the people
for the sake of the US and Japan.
The south Korean authorities’ move for the deployment of THAAD is a suicidal act of digging up its own grave.
