Report of ASSPUK, JISGE and UK KFA May Day Seminar

The Juche Idea Study Group of England , supported by the Association of Songun Politics UK and UK Korean Friendship Association, held a May Day meeting and the first Sunday afternoon Juche Idea Study Group of England Sunday afternoon seminar. The meeting was held in Denmark Hill, London.
Chairman Dermot Hudson introduced the meeting and made reference to the recent visit to the DPRK.
A member of the group explained the history of May Day which goes back to the 1880s. He gave an account of how May Day began and the significance of May Day in the international working class movement. He explained how in the early days the provocations of the anarchists caused severe losses in the working class movement and warned of the danger of anarchism, opportunism and revisionism.
Chairman Dermot Hudson said that May Day in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea is different to that it capitalist countries. In capitalist countries May Day means that workers hold demonstrations to promote the class struggle against the capitalist class. In the DPRK the working class is in power so May Day in the DPRK is a holiday to celebrate this fact and the achievements of socialism . May Day in the DPRK takes the form of a national meeting usually held at a factory or industrial complex and a number of events such as picnics, games , dancing and concerts. A member of the group then introduced some videos showing May Day celebrations in the DPRK in 2011 and 2014.
A study session on the work of the great leader comrade KIM JONG IL " On Further Improving the Work of the Trade Unions " which had been published on the 3rd of May 1984 . Chairman Dermot Hudson said that under socialism the role of the trade unions was different to under capitalism where the trade unions had to carry class struggle to defend the interests of workers. In socialist countries such as the DPRK the trade unions do not need to do this but instead play the role of an educator and organiser of the working people-. President KIM IL SUNG had defined the trade unions
as the transmission belt of the party . In some socialist countries trade unions had become like social clubs but in the DPRK they played an active role as a mobiliser and a fighter for the Party's policies. Dermot Hudson explained that in the work chairman
KIM JONG IL had said that the trade unions must carry out the three revolutions, ideological , technical and cultural . Comrade KIM JONG IL in the work had said that class education including education against revisionism, flunkeyism and dogmatism should be carried.
A member of the group said that the ideological , technical and cultural revolutions are very important
indeed . Of these the ideological revolution is the most important . Participants praisedthe original Juche based theories of chairman KIM JONG IL on the role of the trade unions.
Discussion was held on the recent visit of the delegation to the DPRK. It was stressed that seeing once is better than saying a 1,000 times. It was resolved to work to send a
delegation to the DPRK in April 2017.
Light refreshments were served .
