Pyongyang Subway

In Pyongyang, the capital of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, there is subway called the Underground Pyongyang.

President Kim Il Sung proposed to build the subway in Pyongyang giving the valuable instructions related with the building of a city in December, Juche 45 (1956).

DPRK built it on its own strength and technology, which was comprehensively reflected the science and technology and a difficult construction that should have been undertook in underground of the city.

Pyongyang subway has been regarding as the reliable popular means of transportation that gave a great help to the people’s living for over 40 years since it opened to traffic in September, Juche 62 (1973).

The position of all the stations was chosen near to the bases of cultural and emotional life, serving bases, universities and schools for the sake of convenience of the people’s living.

The automatic escalator is installed in the connective passage between the ground station and one underground one, so as to convenient for going up and coming down of the travelers.

The lines of subway are connected each other by double tracks and there are fully equipped with the relief materials and facilities including the air conditioning facility convenient for the utilization and operation of the subway.

At every station there are bookstores, newspaper stands, shops and sanitary facilities for the people’s convenience.

Also there are murals suitable for the name of the station on the wall and various kinds of beautiful lighting facilities are installed at every station, so it is like underground palace.

Always clear air flows to the inside of it, so people do not find themselves in the underground and this is one of the visiting places of many people at home and abroad who visit Pyongyang.

A new subway car that the working class in DPRK manufactured on its own strength and technology is running from January 1, Juche 105 (2016).

Today Pyongyang citizens like to take the subway that shows the history and traditions of the self-development and are living with a great national pride and dignity.
