Rodong Sinmun Calls for Preserving National Identity

Pyongyang, May 6 (KCNA) -- To preserve and glorify the national identity at present is an important requirement for hastening the final victory in the drive for building a thriving nation and giving fuller play to the advantages of the nation, says Rodong Sinmun Wednesday in an article.
Protecting the national cultural tradition at present presents itself as a more vital issue due to the moves of the imperialists to dominate the world, the article notes, and goes on:
The imperialists are now working hard to obliterate the cultural traditions of other countries and nations while trumpeting about "culture without border" and "world culture". Some countries abandoned their peculiar national identity, taken in by corrupt bourgeois culture and life style, and, in the long run, fell victim to imperialism. These tragic destinies of those countries suggest a lot of things.
The DPRK is dynamically pushing forward the work to carry forward and develop the beautiful and noble national cultural tradition as required by the times under the leadership of the Workers' Party of Korea.
The noble intention of the party to further glorify the advantages of the nation is reflected in the folk music, dances, fine art, lunar New Year , January 15th of the lunar calendar and other folk holidays, Ssirum (Korean wrestling), yut-game and other folk games, national dresses and dishes strong in national flavor.
Strong is the will of the party to glorify the DPRK as a world famous advanced highly civilized nation with a time-honored history and brilliant culture and a rich and prosperous country true to the intention of President Kim Il Sung and leader
Kim Jong Il. -0
