Syrian Issue must be settled in peaceful and political way -DPRK Foreign Ministry
Pyongyang, February 2 (KCNA) -- The spokesman for the Foreign Ministry of the DPRK gave the following answer to a question raised by KCNA Monday as regards the recent negotiations for the peaceful settlement of the civil war in Syria:
There took place negotiations for the settlement of the Syrian crisis between the representatives of the Syrian government and the anti-government forces in Moscow from Jan. 26 to 29.
At the negotiations both sides adopted 11-point "Moscow principle" the keynote of which is to defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria, jointly cope with terrorism and extremism and settle the crisis in a political and peaceful way.
The results of the negotiations showed the will of the government and people of Syria to ensure the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country and find a political solution to the on-going crisis through dialogue.
Due to the undisguised interference in the internal affairs of Syria and encroachment upon its sovereignty by the U.S. and the West the civil war and bloodshed are going on in Syria, seriously threatening peace and security of the region and the world.
The DPRK government is consistent in its stand that the Syrian issue must be solved in a political and peaceful way by the efforts of the Syrian people free from foreign interference.
We hope that the Syrian government and people will put the earliest possible end to the crisis and achieve peace, stability and prosperity by their concerted efforts. -0-
