Much comment has been excited by the trial of the US spy Matthew Miller
Todd in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and the resultant sentence
of six years hard labour.
Miller Tood had a fair trial , he was given the right to a defence counsel which he refused . As the KCNA statement said "At the trial he admitted that he committed the crimes, prompted by his political motive to personally spy on the "human rights" situation in the DPRK and disclose it in a bid to isolate and stifle the DPRK's system."
Miller Todd's plan was to get arrested in order to spy on the DPRK and commit hostile acts. The business of tearing up the visa was a ruse. Miller Todd appears to have been a bit of a fantasist , a Walter Mitty figure he thought he could become famous , another Edward Snowden.
There are quite a lot of suspicious things about Miller Todd. He has a brother in the US air force stationed in south Korea. Whilst in south Korea Miller Todd used a false name "Preston Somerset". Apparently Miller Todd was out of work whilst staying in south Korea but found the money to travel back to the USA and to a number of countries including the UK and a tour to the DPRK. Where did he find the money, who really paid for him to travel. It is highly probable that while in south Korea that he would have met with the south Korean National Intelligence Service.
One US intelligence source said of the DPRK " It is a very tough country to get data from,". "We have tried every which way we can to get information." What better way than send in an expendable patsy spy like Miller Todd.
Reading the story of Matthew Miller Todd one could not help but thinking that there are parallels with Lee Harvey Oswald the assassin of the US president Kennedy .Oswald was a strange character who proclaimed himself a socialist or communist but then joined the US marines and was engaged in intelligence work. Oswald 'defected ' to the Soviet Union but then re defected to the US and went on to assassinate Kennedy , Oswald proclaimed " I am a patsy ". Oswald was an undercover US intelligence agent who assasinated the US president at the behest of mysterious forces inside the US state machine who wanted to dispose of the President. Miller Todd looks like a modern day dumbed down version of Lee Harvey Oswald , only a with a different target and agenda.
As KCNA points out "What mattered was that his crime timed to coincide with the reckless remarks made by officials of the present U.S. administration including Secretary of State Kerry terming the dignified DPRK a "country of evil" over its rocket firing and elections to power bodies in March and April this year, and the smear campaign over its "human rights issue.".
The DPRK is not the old Soviet Union, it is anti-imperialist and anti-revisionist therefore is not taken in by the deception of the imperialists and their agents. The DPRK is quite correct to deal sternly with agents of imperialism. Simply deporting Miller Todd back to the US would have simply encouraged the US imperialists to send in more spies and agents.
US spy Matthew Miller Todd has been well and truly banged to rights by the Korean people .
