The great leader Comrade KIM JONG IL started work at the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea on June 19, 1964. For a period of more than 45 years the great leader comrade KIM JONG IL guided and led the work of the Workers' Party of Korea . The WPK is the organiser and guide of the Korean people and the general staff of the Korean revolution.

Comrade KIM JONG IL said when starting work at the Central Committee of the WPK;

"Now that I am to work at the Party Central Committee, my shoulders are heavy with a sense of responsibility for the Korean revolution.

"The Party Central Committee is the General Staff of the Korean revolution and the highest leadership of the revolution which guides politics, the economy, culture, military affairs and all other sectors of the country. The future and the destiny of our country and our people depend on how the officials at the Party Central Committee work.

"As I start working at the Party Central Committee, I am more firmly determined than ever to work wholeheartedly under the sagacious leadership of Comrade Kim Il Sung for the prosperity of the country and for the freedom and happiness of the people.”

Comrade KIM JONG IL began working at the Central Committee of the WPK at a time when the internal and external situation of the DPRK was very complicated. The US imperialists had created the “Caribbean crises”(Cuba missile crisis ) in 1962 and perpetrated unscrupulous aggressive machinations against the socialist countries and third world countries. In particular, they made the situation on the Korean peninsula extremely tense . In 1961 there was a military coup in south Korea resulting in a military fascist dictatorship being created which did all it could to intensify confrontation with the DPRK at the behest of its US imperialist masters.

The opportunists who had appeared in the international communist movement created great difficulties in the development of the world revolution, compromising with imperialism and undermining the unity and cohesion of the socialist countries.  The modern

revisionists co-operated with the imperialists preaching 'peaceful co-existence' .The international communist movement had become split down the middle and each big power was demanding that the Workers' Party of Korea should take its side.

Within the WPK although they had received a severe blow in 1956 some anti-party revisionists and counter-revolutionary factionalists still covertly schemed within the WPK to damage and derail the onward march towards the bright future of socialism and communism. They caused had caused incalculable harm to the Party’s organizational” and ideological work, national reunification, foreign affairs and many other spheres . These elements were encouraged by the growth of modern revisionism and by big power chauvinism. Comrade KIM JONG IL led the struggle against the anti-party factionalists and exposed their reactionary nature .The 15th Plenary Meeting of the Fourth Party Central Committee was held from May 4 to 8, 1967. This plenary meeting laid bare the crime of the anti- Party revisionists such as Pak Kum Chol, Ri Hyo Sun and Kim To Man, and took the organizational measure of removing them from the Party.

Comrade KIM JONG IL ensured that a strong all-Party struggle was waged to stamp out the evil ideological after-effects of the anti-Party revisionists.

 

A central question was to establish the monolithic ideological system within the party. Comrade KIM JONG IL addressed this question ;

“The Party ، ̄s monolithic ideological system is, in other words, the leader ̄s ideological system and system of guidance. In our Party there can only be the leader ، ̄s revolutionary idea and guidance. Without them the existence of our Party is inconceivable. The revolutionary idea of the great leader is the eternal guiding ideology of our Party and revolution. Thanks to the wise guidance of the leader our people could not only victoriously fight their way across tens of thou?sands of ri in the bloody war against the Japanese imperialists, and defeat the US imperialist aggressors, in the three-year-long Father?land Liberation War, but also succeed in the postwar reconstruction and socialist revolution and achieve miraculous successes in the building of socialism, to the admiration of the people throughout the world.

We must improve the education on Party policy, the revolutionary traditions and socialist patriotism of Party members and the working people. The main emphasis in the education need s to be on the establishment of the Party ، ̄s monolithic ideological system”

Thus the establishment of the monolithic ideological system became the order of the day and comrade KIM JONG IL put forward the unique line of making the WPK the party of the leader. The unity and oneness of ideology within the WPK was a decisive factor in strengthening leadership over the socialist revolution and socialist construction . In many countries particularly the capitalist countries the communist and worker’s parties did not ensure oneness in ideology but embarked on the road of bourgeois liberalism even go as far to allow and encourage different ideologies within the party with the result that these parties eventually collapsed.

The great leader comrade KIM JONG IL after making profound studies decided to deepen and broaden the work of establishing the monolithic ideological system by not only basing the party on the Juche idea but by modelling the whole of society on Kimilsungism.

This concept was put forward in February 1974 in the work “ "On Some Immediate Tasks of Party Ideological Work for Modelling the Whole Society on Kimilsungism". This brought about a great upsurge in carrying on the revolution and the WPK's ideological work. Also after the proclamation of the programme the flags of the 'speed campaign ' of the mid 1970s flared up with workers creating the "70 day battle speed " .

Since then, the WPK has further strengthened into the party of President KIM IL SUNG to dynamically advance the revolution and construction under the uplifted banner of the Juche idea. The work for the modelling the whole society on Kimilsungism has also played a key role in consolidating the might of socialism centred on the masses and cementing the single-minded unity of society. Moreover the concept of turning all members of society into Juche-type communist revolutionaries was put forward.

                      The great leader comrade KIM JONG IL  whilst working at the central committee of the WPK guided many different fields of work . He paid close attention to

culture and authored the work "On the Art of the Cinema " , a work of true genius  which

clarified many issues in the development of the socialist cinema. Whilst guiding the work

of socialist construction ensuring that the principle of self-reliance was strictly adhered

to . In his December 1978 work “Let Us Increase the Party's Fighting Efficiency and Bring about a Fresh Turn in the Building of Socialism" he put forward the dynamic

revolutionary slogan “ Let Us Live our Own way ! “ . This became the watchword and manifesto of Juche-based socialism , enabling the Korean revolution to advance militantly along the path of self-reliance defeating the big power chauvinists ,dominationists and revisionists.

The late 1980s and early 1990s saw an unprecedented challenges to the socialist revolution and construction in Korea . This was a grim period in which the socialist system of the world collapsed due to the imperialists' anti-socialist offensive and the counter-revolutionary moves of the revisionists and renegades of socialism. The Red flag was lowered over the Kremlin , a happening that would that have once been considered unthinkable and abnormal.

                     The WPK had been steeled under the leadership of the great leader comrade

KIM IL SUNG and under the guidance of the great leader comrade Kim Jong Il refused

to give in and stuck to firmly to the road of socialism, the road of Juche.

Comrade KIM JONG IL in works such as “"The Historical lesson in Building Socialism and the General Line of Our Party" , Fundamentals of Revolutionary Party Building “ and other works made a deep analysis of why socialism was frustrated in some countries.

He attributed the cause of the frustration of socialism in some countries as being due to

to ruling parties in socialist countries making not adhering to revolutionary principles

pointing out that

“the revisionists, harbouring illusions about capitalism, completely rejected socialist principles and fully introduced the capitalist mode of politics and economic system, with the result that socialism was frustrated and capitalism revived. Single concessions and a gradual retreat from socialist principles have resulted in ten- and hundred-fold concessions and a full retreat until, finally, the grave consequence of the ruin of the working- class parties themselves was incurred. “

He also pointed out the harmful effect that bureaucracy had on socialism in some countries.

The great leader comrade KIM JONG IL made public various famous works including "The Workers' Party of Korea Is the Party of the Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung" , “Socialism is a Science "Giving Priority to Ideological Work Is Essential for Accomplishing Socialism" in the middle of the 1990s when the U.S.-led imperialist reactionary forces were engaged in vicious moves, spreading the doctrine of "collapse" of the WPK and socialist system with the demise of President KIM IL SUNG as the occasion. In these works, comrade KIM JONG IL solemnly declared that the revolutionary principle and firm stand of the WPK to carry out the socialist cause of Juche successfully.

Comrade KIM JONG IL made sure that the ideas and policies of the founder of the WPK comrade KIM IL SUNG were continued and actively carried forward When the attempts of the US -led imperialists to stifle Korean -style socialism became very intense in the 1990s the great leader put forward Songun politics as the treasured sword of the WPK to defend socialism.

The decades of leadership and guidance to the WPK given by the great leader comrade

KIM JONG IL had been decades of victory and glory in which the socialist citadel of

People's Korea was consolidated. Today the cause of Juche party building is carried

forward by dear respected Marshal KIM JONG UN the First Secretary of the WPK and

successor to the cause of Juche.
