Joint Appeal Issued to All Koreans

Pyongyang, March 1 (KCNA) -- The north's Council for the Reunification of Tangun's Nation and the south's Council for the Peaceful Unification of Tangun's Nation issued a joint appeal Saturday, the 95th anniversary of the March First Popular Uprising (March 1, 1919) recorded in the Korean nation' history of the struggle against foreign forces.
The full text of the appeal is as follows:
95 years have passed since the March First Popular Uprising, but the slogans for independence shouted by the martyrs of the uprising are still heard in the land of Korea and the mental and physical pain and material losses inflicted by the Japanese imperialists on the Korean nation remain unhealed wounds as the grudge of all members of the nation have not been settled.
Japan, however, is getting hell-bent on the moves to grab territory, covering up its crimes and distorting history, far from making a sincere apology, reflection and reparation for the past crime-woven history.
The prevailing situation calls upon all Koreans to turn out as one in a nationwide movement for the country's reunification to force Japan to liquidate all its past crimes and defend the sovereignty and dignity of the nation, united close under the unfurled banner of By Our Nation Itself.
Reflecting the unanimous will of the Tangun nation on the occasion of the 95th anniversary of the March First Popular Uprising, we ardently call as follows, bitterly condemning once again the aggression, plunder and killings committed by Japan in the past:
Independence is the life and soul of the nation and sycophancy and dependence on foreign forces lead to national ruin.
Let all the fellow countrymen get firmly united under the genuine patriotic banner, the banner of By Our Nation Itself to reject sycophancy and dependence on foreign forces and settle the issue of our nation by its concerted efforts.
Let all the fellow countrymen in the north, the south and abroad turn out as one in the nationwide movement for peace against war to defend this land permeated with the blood and soul of the forerunners by the concerted efforts and patriotic minds of our nation.
National unity is the supreme task of our nation with one and same blood, language, history and culture. Apart from this it is impossible to open air, land and sea routes, alleviate the sufferings of separated families and relatives and clear off the clouds of a nuclear war hanging over the nation.
Let us place the nation above the interests of all parties and factions, respect the interests common to the nation, put an end to the history of antagonism and confrontation and pave a wide avenue for improving the north-south relations.
We will as always firmly preserve the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration and further expand the nationwide movement for putting spurs to the implementation of the declarations.
Let all Koreans make every sincere effort to do things helpful to mending the north-south relations, putting aside all other matters, from the standpoint of attaching importance to the nation and giving priority to it, no matter who they are, no matter where they live, irrespective of political view, religious belief, ideology and social system.
Let all Koreans resolutely shatter the moves of Japan to revive militarism and reinvade Korea by their concerted efforts and conduct a more dynamic nationwide movement to force Japan to make an apology and reparation for its shuddering past crimes.
No force on earth can arrest the grand march for the independent reunification of the Koreans advancing, united close as one, giving full play to the stamina of the homogeneous nation with Tangun as its ancestral father.
Let us all pool our efforts in the spirit of achieving public welfare and building a paradise under the uplifted banner of By Our Nation Itself and usher in the era of national reconciliation and cooperation, the June 15 era of reunification without fail this year. -0
