DPRK, Tax-free Country

Pyongyang, March 29 (KCNA) -- The tax system was totally abolished in the DPRK on April 1, Juche 63 (1974).
On this day the centuries-old desire of the Korean people to live in the tax-free world was realized. It was a historic event in which the country without tax system emerged in the world.
President Kim Il Sung built the socialist system centred on the popular masses, the first tax-free country in the world. He unfolded the plan for abolishing the unpopular tax system during the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle and set an example in the guerrilla bases, liberated areas.
After the liberation of Korea, he abolished the predatory and colonial tax system of Japanese imperialism and established the most popular and democratic tax system. He enforced the policy of systematically relieving the people of tax burden on the basis of the foundation of the self-supporting national economy.
He put forward the important task on totally abolishing the tax system in the near future at the Fourth Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea. Pushing ahead with the work to carry out the task, he made sure that agricultural tax in kind was abolished, to begin with.
The agricultural tax in kind was totally abolished between 1964 and 1966 according to "Theses on the Socialist Rural Question in Our Country" published by him.
At the 8th Plenary Meeting of the Fifth Central Committee of the WPK held in February 1974 he made sure that the decision on totally abolishing the tax system in the DPRK was adopted. At the Third Session of the Fifth Supreme People's Assembly in March he promulgated the law on totally abolishing the tax system.
The total abolition of the tax system was a brilliant result of his loving care for the people and an immortal feat he performed in building Korean-style socialism which applied the Juche idea. -0-
