Press Release of Oceania Preparatory Committee To Commemorate the 60th Anniversary Of the Korean War Armistice Agreement

Press Release

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Armistice Agreement that ended hostilities on the Korean peninsula. One of the conditions of the Armistice Agreement was it would be converted to a genuine peace agreement and over time normal diplomatic relations would be established between the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the United State (US).

After 60 years the US has failed to honour and uphold this fundamental aspect of the Armistice Agreement and they continue under the false command of the United Nations (UN) to maintain over 30,000 troops plus nuclear weapons on the Korean peninsula.

As a result of more recent developments the position on the Korean peninsula is now more dangerous. As well as additional sanctions being imposed on the DPRK by the UN the US together with its allies Great Britain, Australia, Japan and its puppet regime South Korea on the 1st March launched one of the biggest military exercises ever around the Korean peninsula known as “Key Resolve and “Foal Eagle” which is intended to last for two months. Although these military exercises are conducted annually in the past they have been separate and as a result of combining them they have assemble the largest military contingent ever seen around the Korean peninsula since the signing of the Armistice Agreement sixty years ago including nuclear warships, stealth bombers with nuclear weapons. Clearly it is the intention of US along with its allies to cause as much tension as possible and create an atmosphere of military confrontation on the Korean peninsula.

In expressing our total opposition to these latest developments that have further heighten tensions and taken the Korean peninsula to the brink of a new Korean war. The Oceania Solidarity Committee for the Peaceful and in dependent Reunification of Korea will increase its activities and demands the immediate end to the hostile policies of the US and its allies including Australia.
