DPRK, Tax-free Country

 Pyongyang, March 21 (KCNA) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea is known as a tax-free country in the world.
    A foreign woman writer, who visited the DPRK, said she witnessed no people in the DPRK pays rent or tax, although the Western nations do not believe there is no tax in the country.
    The abolition of the tax system marked a milestone in the life of the Korean people.

    Earlier in the period of the anti-Japanese armed struggle, he underscored the need to abolish the tax system in the Ten-Point Programme of the Association for the Restoration of the Fatherland.
    After the country's liberation from the Japanese colonial rule, he took a measure to remove all sorts of depredatory taxes and establish democratic tax system instead.
    Various kinds of taxes were removed one after another, with the foundation of the self-reliant national economy laid in the country.
    The system of agricultural tax in kind was entirely abolished in Juche 55 (1966), leaving income tax of workers and officers and local tax only in the country.
    At the 8th Plenary Meeting of the 5th Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, Kim Il Sung took a measure to completely abolish the tax system in the country and saw to it that it was promulgated as an ordinance at the Supreme People's Assembly on March 21, 1974.
    Thus, the DPRK has become a tax-free country for the first time in the world. -0-
