Invincible Korean People’s Army
The Korean People’s Army is a mighty force in safeguarding the sovereignty of the DPRK with arms and advancing its socialist cause with credit. The invincibility of this army is attracting the attention of international community.
Then what are the factors? It is above anything else the KPA’s political and ideological preparedness.
Here are some quotes from Kim Jong Il.
“The might of arms is the might of ideology and faith.”
“The arms of the revolution, when combined with revolutionary ideology, can display an invincible strength.”
“It is a truth confirmed in the flames of revolutionary struggle that a revolutionary army emerges victorious when it intensifies ideological work and perishes when it neglects it.”
Kim Jong Il gave foremost importance to ideological work among the soldiers. The KPA under his command defended the banner of socialism by the close of the last century when former socialist countries collapsed. The service personnel of the KPA are united firmly behind their leader in ideology and purpose, and they do not hesitate to go through fire and water so as to implement his orders and directives.
There are many episodes showing their ideological and mental qualities. The KPA soldiers, who happened to drift southward on their boats, gave the enemy shivers by stating that they would return without fail to the embrace of General Kim Jong Il and if they couldn’t do so when alive, they would do so even after death. A pilot, when his plane was enveloped in flames during flight training, refused to bail out and veered it into the sea for the security of the leadership of the revolution. The soldier-builders, who were seconded to the construction of the Anbyon Youth Power Station, dug a waterway tunnel shouting the slogan, “Let us not see the blue sky over the country before carrying out the Supreme Commander’s order!”
No force on this planet, anything more powerful than an atomic bomb, can break the mental strength of the KPA. The military and technological superiority is the second factor in the army’s invincibility. The KPA has been prepared for both attack and defence, and is capable of coping with any emergency in modern warfare through immediate, decisive actions. All officers and men of the KPA have conducted intensive training to become a-match-for-a-hundred combatants with a sturdy physique and a masterly knowledge of military techniques and combat methods that are suitable to the specific conditions of the country.
Towards the end of the last century the imperialist allied forces went to extremes to suffocate 1he DPRK. Despite tremendous difficulties the Korean people accumulated military capabilities to defend their country by themselves, and to cope with the constant nuclear threats by the US, built reliable nuclear deterrent.
The high mobility and striking power of its modern combat and technical equipment enabled the KPA to prevail over the US military and technological “edge” in aerial attack, long-distance strike and electronic warfare. In December 1994 a soldier of the KPA shot down a US helicopter that intruded into the territorial airspace of the DPRK. In March 2003, when the RC-135, a US
strategic reconnaissance plane, was discovered conducting aerial espionage near the territorial airspace of the DPRK, the KPA fighters immediately set off in hot pursuit of the US aircraft. Frightened out of his wits, the US pilot made a tailspin towards his home base.
It is not fortuitous that the US, the self-claimed only superpower in the world, dares not ignite a war against this small country as it does against other nations that are not obedient to it. The third factor is the great unity between the army and the people. The army-people unity is the traditional trait of socialist Korea. It is not simply a relationship of assisting each other, but the harmonization of their ideology and fighting spirit, based on the revolutionary soldier spirit. For scenarists of a war against the DPRK, it is worth keeping in mind that they would be confronted also with civilians with a hammer, sickle or writing brush in
one hand and arms in the other.
The army volunteers to carry out the most challenging projects for socialist construction under the slogan, “Take charge of both national defence and socialist construction!” and the people spare nothing for the sake of the soldiers. This great unity increases the might of the KPA.
The most important factor determining the invincibility of the KPA is its outstanding commandership. President Kim Il Sung, founder of the KPA, was a legendary commander who defeated two imperialist powers in his generation. He liberated Korea from the Japanese colonial rule through a 15-year-long armed struggle and forced the US, the “strongest” in the world, and its 15 vassal
states to back down in the Korean war (1950-1953). It was the first defeat in the US history of war. Kim Jong Il, great successor to the President, was a brilliant commander who achieved by dint of his original Songun politics one victory after another in the war without gunshot, the confrontation with the US-led imperialist allied forces to defend socialism of the DPRK. Now at the helm of the KPA is Supreme Commander Kim Jong Un, who is identical with Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il. Only victory is in store for his army.
