Another UHP Electric Arc Furnace Starts Operation


Pyongyang, October 29 (KCNA) -- UHP Electric Arc Furnace No.2 went into operation at the Chollima Steel Complex.
Workers in Kangson built another UHP electric arc furnace, completed the construction of multi-element alloy steel production base and the reconstruction project of rotary kiln No. 3 of the Posan Iron Works and set up 550 cubic meter oxygen separator.
The successful modernization of the complex laid a firm foundation for drastically increasing the production of different kinds of iron and steel materials urgently needed for building an economic power, making contribution to further consolidating the independence of steel industry.
A commissioning ceremony took place on Friday.
Present there were Choe Yong Rim, premier of the DPRK Cabinet, Hong Sok Hyong, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, Ri Thae Nam, vice premier of the Cabinet, Kim Thae Bong, minister of Metal Industry, and others.
At the ceremony Choe Yong Rim conveyed a message of congratulation of the WPK Central Committee to workers, technicians, officials and helpers who performed brilliant feats in the project for modernizing the complex.
Speeches were made there.
After the ceremony the participants went round different projects including the newly built UHP electric arc furnace. -0-
