The Association For the Study of Songun Politics UK(ASSPUK), the British Group for the Study of the Juche Idea (BGSJI) , the Korean Friendship Association of the UK (KFA UK) and the British Solidarity Committee for Peace and Reunification on the Korean Peninsula (BSCPRKP) issued the following joint statement in support of the press statement of the Department Director for Foreign Affairs of DPRK Ministry of Land and Environment Protection;
At a time when humanity is facing serious environmental problems such as the 'El Nino ' phenomen , the reactionary Japanese imperialists are planning to discharge 1.3 million tons of nuclear-polluted water into the Pacific from this summer. This will have serious effects in the Asia -Pacific region and will also later affect the whole world .
Not only is Japan engaging in such an irresponsible and criminal act but the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) of the UN has been bribed by Japan and is conniving at Japan's action . The IAEA claims that the discharge of the irraditated water will have "minimal" impact ". This is complete rubbish.
Worse still the US and south Korea have welcomed Japan's irresponsible plan .
So-called environmental campaigners in Western countries and liberals are also silent about this grave anti-ethical action of Japan which threatens serious enviromental damage.
We express our solidarity with the DPRK and the peoples of Asia in the face of the potential damage to the enviroment by the criminal Japanese imperialists .
We believe that more should be done to expose the crimes of Japanese imperialism including their deliberate damage to the environment .
