A few days ago the 'Guardian ' newspaper ,a paper which refused to print a letter from KFA UK Chairman Dr Dermot Hudson, carried an opinion article by one Simon Jenkins calling for the lifting of sanctions on the DPRK . Normally KFA UK would welcome this as the impostion of sanctions on the DPRK by the UN , US and others is of course a hostile act against the DPRK , an attempt to deny the DPRK's right to exist .
However , to say that the article had a sting in the tail , would be a massive understatement to say the least . In fact the article was deeply hostile to the DPRK and the Juche -based socialist system and was an attack on the very concept of self-reliance . Of course maybe we should expect this from Mr Jenkins who after all is a millionaire and a liberal member of the establishment .
The article is based on the false premise created by the BBC and others in the mainstream media that people in the DPRK 'are starving ' . Jenkins makes no attempt to challenge this narrative or go beyond it .It has not occcured to Mr Jenkins that if people in the DPRK were starving that they would not be able to carry out massive housing construction , stage massive parades or launch rockets and missiles ? Basically it is commonsense.
The article does not mention the Juche idea , the guiding principle and philosophy of the DPRK . However Jenkins just attacks the DPRK for self-suffiency and even calls it 'zenophobic ' ignoring the proud internationalist record of the DPRK . Jenkins quotes veteran DPRKphobe and Juchephobe Prof Hazel Smith ( a former Trotskyite )who was once photographed with the south Korean puppet Unification Ministry and once received an award from the USA . In fact self-reliance and self-suffiency are the way to true prosperity and development . Boring old Prof Smith claims that food shortages result from self-suffiency . Nothing could be further from the truth ! . The DPRK became self-sufficient in grain by 1961 (possibly earlier ) and by the 1970s was exporting big amounts of grain .
A British academic Dr Malcolm Caldwell of the School of Oriental and African Studies once wrote "‘ What is clear is that ,deprived of, massive loans ,US military propping , and integration into the international capitalist economy, south Korea would collapse, whereas-abiding by Juche , North Korea can stand independent indefinitely' ( Malcolm Caldwell , ‘The Wealth of Some Nations ‘ 1977 page 162).
People like Prof Smith and Mr Jenkins who attack self-reliance want the DPRK to became a dependency of US imperialism and world imperialism , they want the DPRK to open up to international monopoly capital so its people can be exploited by the multi-nationals .
The DPRK will withstand and overcome the sanctions .Self-reliance will build a stronger Juche Korea which will be the envy of the world.
As to the 'Guardian ' , a publication so beloved of the liberal middle class or 'chattering classes' , it is no less hostile and toxic than right wing tabloids , the only difference is that the "Guardian ' is aimed at a difference audience but the message is the same.
Down with liberal hypocites !
Down with the 'Guardian '
Defend People's Korea.
